I Am Grateful with Simple Stories

Hi everyone, and happy Friday! Yay for the weekend, right? I know I am always grateful when the weekend rolls around. So I thought today would be the perfect day to share this fun thank you card I made recently for the Simple Stories blog, featuring the adorable I Am collection.

I absolutely adore the script font of this beautiful wood veneer sentiment, and wanted to make it the focal point of my card. Love the large size and how it takes center stage in this simple card design. I decided to alter the wood veneer a bit, to make it stand out even more.

The Wood Veneers are beautiful in their natural state, but are also super easy to alter and embellish to create your own unique embellishments. The “grateful” sentiment piece used here was colored with a Worn Lipstick Distress Marker, which was a perfect match for one of the striped 4×6 SN@P cards from the collection. It only took a minute to color, and I love how the sentiment really pops off the card now, especially layered against a bit of black paper from the 6×6 Paper Pad.

A smaller 3×4 SN@P Card and papers from the 6×6 pad make up the base of the card. I wrapped the card with yellow twine and added a chipboard flower to the bow. Then to help frame the focal sentiment, I added a few small flowers from the Wood Veneers, this time colored with markers and given a coat of glossy accents. Love how the wood finish looks with all that shine.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friends! Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

  1. Wow! Love your gorgeous card, Audrey! Wonderful mix of patterns and the wood sentiment is just lovely! Thanks so much for the inspiration! Have a great weekend, hugs!:-)

  2. Good night… FABULOUS!!!! Audrey, what a great thought to color that sentiment with a Distress Marker… so outstanding!!!! This card is SO pretty… love the patterns, the yellow twine and the glossy little accent flowers.
Are there certain colors of DM you would recommend to start out? I would love to purchase some, but am still buying D Paints. Any thoughts?
Have a wonderful Sunday, my friend!

    • Oooo, that’s a tough one, Linda, because the thing I’m finding out about Distress is that I just want them all! 🙂 I actually only own two of the markers right now….but I’ve got a bunch more that I’ve ordered and am waiting for. I’m loving how versatile they are, and how many ways you can use them. For me, I’m finding them more versatile and useful than the paints and sprays. So for me, I’m concentrating on getting all the ink colors and all the markers. But for starting, I would recommend getting black soot and pumice stone, and then maybe chose one of each color group… like your favorite blue and favorite green…. then see how much you use them, and then decide from there. 🙂

  3. Audrey your mix of patterns is gorgeous. I always seem to experience a sort of “block” when it comes to mixing and matching. I guess that’s why I tend to use a lot of white:). This card is stunning; I learned to like red and that sentiment is fab!My oh my I LOVE it!

  4. Wow! Love how the wood sentiment looks colored up. It really does make it pop more. Another awesome paper collection. 🙂
