These shabby-sweet vintage-inspired Valentine hearts are filled with a few of my favorite things….. lovely script printed cotton fabric, a bit of wonky machine stitching, beautiful glass beads and vintage pearl buttons, all in a soft neutral color palette that I adore. Each button and bead are hand-stitched to the center of the heart with rich deep red floss for a small pop of color. I added a snippet of remnant lace and a big shabby bow for a final decoration. There are two hearts available… the same, yet slightly different. Each heart measures ~ 4″ x 5″.
Little Lulu Longstockings, the sweetest misfit Valentine Voodoo dolly, is handmade from 100% recycled cotton, knit, and flannel fabrics. Her face is hand-painted, with hand-stitched detailing and miss-matched vintage button eyes. Lulu has knotted floss hair. Her dress is embellished with a hand-embroidered felt heart. Lulu comes equipped with plenty of re-positionable voodoo stick pins. Lulu measures ~ 3.5″ x 15″.
This one-of-a-kind art doll is a true work of he(art). It’s always a surprise and a joy to watch an idea evolve into a finished doll. This little Valentine-inspired sweetie ended up reminding me of artist Frida Kahlo, hence the name. Frida is constructed from a variety of fabrics, including recycled materials in cotton, velour, flannel, and taffeta. Her face is pieced from fabrics with machine stitched detailing and miss-matched button eyes. I hand-dyed the flannel fabric used on her cheeks and nose. I added remnant lace and a few of my treasured vintage millinery pieces to her hair bow, along with a pair of designer stick pins. Frida’s dress is embellished with jumbo rick-rack trim and a favorite button, with a big taffeta underskirt and bow. A pair of bright pompoms add a touch of fun to her “shoes”. Frida measures ~ 6″ x 15″.
