A Holiday Snow Globe with Sizzix

Happy Monday, sweet friends! And happy December, too! With Christmas now only three weeks away, holiday preparations are in full swing these days. I am still very much in that chaotic in-progress stage at my house…. decorating is underway, shopping is underway, and holiday gift wrapping is underway, too. I’m really looking forward to crossing at least one item off of my to-do list, but it seems I’ve still got a long ways to go. How about all of you?

I am making some slow headway on my gift packaging, though. This weekend I went and picked out my holiday wrapping paper for the year. I like to go with a different theme each holiday, and actually look forward to picking out my rolls of brightly colored wrapping papers. I guess my love of pretty scrapbooking papers carries on into a love of pretty much any paper. I’m sure you all know what I mean. 😀

Part of my packaging for the year includes a few handmade tags, of course. And last week, I shared this sweet snow globe shaped Tim Holtz tag on the Sizzix blog, and wanted to share it here with you, too. This tag is once again a mix of some of my favorites from Tim’s new holiday collection. The globe and the church building, the moon, snowbank, and the stars, are from the Snowglobe2 die set. And to complete the scene, I added in some pieces from both the Snowman Scene and Winter Wonderland sets, as well. I’ve got the complete step-by-step tutorial up on the Sizzix blog, if you’d like to learn more.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful day!

2017 Tim Holtz Holiday Inspiration Series- Snowman Scene

Happy Wednesday, Crafty Friends, and thank you for joining me here on the blog for another festive project from the 2017 Tim Holtz Holiday Inspiration Series!  Whether you are looking for handmade cards or gift projects, or maybe a few home decor ideas, the Holiday Inspiration Series is here to help jump start all of your holiday crafting with tons of project ideas from a group of very talented crafters. I am so excited to be a part of the festivities, and today I’ve got some frosty Sizzix Alterations fun to share with you.

This adorable snowman dude and his background scenery were made with the super fun Snowman Scene Thinlits die set, part of the new Sizzix Alterations holiday release. I love the layers to this guy, and all the tiny little details. If you’ll look closely, you will see that the body of the snowman is stacked from three individual pieces. And all the wee details, like the snow on the hat and arms, the bitty pieces of coal and carrot nose, the stick arms and scarf, are included in the die set, too.

I love that this set also has dies for creating the background landscape scene you see here. I began by die cutting some framework using the Stitched Squares Framelits set, and then I inked the pieces in a soft natural Distress color palette of blues and greens. The sky was then embossed with the new Simple Snowflakes embossing folder for the look of freshly falling snow.

I die cut the mountain ridge and snowy tree line from Ranger watercolor paper, and inked both in Distress. The mountain was water-colored in a mix of black and grey to mimic stone. I did up one of the background layers of paper to match. The tree line was inked in the same blend of greens fading into blue along the snowbank. Mr Snowman was pieced with all his individual parts, and then the whole scene was pounced with Ranger Gesso to add some texture to the snow.

To finish the scene, I added a simple banner for the snowman to hold made from natural twine. The letters are from one of my favorite basic sentiment sets, Holiday Words- Block.

2017 Tim Holtz Holiday Inspiration Series- Winter Wonderland

Happy Wednesday, Crafty Friends, and thank you for joining me here on the blog for day one of my projects for the 2017 Tim Holtz Holiday Inspiration Series!  Whether you are looking for handmade cards or gift projects, or maybe a few home decor ideas, the Holiday Inspiration Series is here to help jump start all of your holiday crafting with tons of project ideas from a group of very talented crafters. I am so excited to be a part of the festivities, and today I’m kicking things off with a little Sizzix Winter Wonderland inspiration.

I absolutely adore a natural woodland look for the holidays, so of course I simply could not resist the charm of this new Winter Wonderland Thinlits die set. I am truly a sucker for cute little woodland critters, and this set is full of them. Love that deer, and the snowy background die really makes the most amazing backdrop.

I had fun creating a woodsy scene for my card, complete with fresh greens and glittered snowbanks nestled against a softly falling snow. The background was die cut from watercolor cardstock and ink blended with a soft Distress color palette of Tumbled Glass fading into Shaded Lilac and Chipped Sapphire. I made a woody signpost for the sentiment using a small strip of cardstock and one of the Idea-ology Clippings stickers. The bits of greenery are die cut from the previously released Holiday Greens set.

I created some framework for my scene by nesting a Stitched Oval die within a Stitched Rectangle, die cut once again from watercolor paper. The frame was inked in Chipped Sapphire, and then embossed with the new Simple Snowflakes embossing folder. I went over the raised embossed areas again with ink to bring out the textured design. The frame was placed onto additional layers of cardstock and patterned paper, all tied up with my favorite natural twine.

The snowbanks were created from another new holiday die set called Snowglobe #2. I used both the positive die, and the negative shape leftover to make the staggered snowbanks you see here. Both were pounced with a bit of Picket Fence Distress paint, and then coated in clear Distress glitter, for a snowy look. I tucked the deer between the layers to add some depth to the scene. To dress up the deer, I turned to another new die set, Snowman Scene, to create the scarf. And then a few enamel dots complete the look.

A Butterfly Birthday with Tim Holtz & Sizzix

Hi Friends! Happy Monday to you!

I definitely woke up to a little crisp in the air this morning, which just proves that my very favorite month of the year must be here, October! It is just about time for spooks, my friends, and I can’t wait to start sharing some of my Halloween projects and decor with you all.

But for today, I have a pair of birthday cards to share with you that I made awhile back for the Sizzix blog featuring the fabulous Flutter line of stamps and dies by Tim Holtz.

It seems like I am always in need of birthday cards, so I like to try to build up a stash of ready-made cards to keep on hand. The new Tim Holtz Flutter butterflies are so beautiful and fun to use, and work really well for year-round birthday card designs. Today I’ve created a bit of a summer-inspired look using light pastel colors in an earthy color palette, paired with lots of crisp white and bold black to make everything pop.

I used a variety of different Flutter butterfly images to stamp the background paper, and then die cut and colored one to be the focus of the design, nestled within a Tim Holtz Stitched Circle die cut frame. I’ve got the full step-by-step tutorial up on the Sizzix blog, if you’d like to learn more.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope to be back on Friday with the beginnings of my 2018 Halloween Haunted House Tour! Until then, wishing you all a wonderful week!

A Father’s Day Tutorial with Ranger Ink

Hello, Crafty Friends!
Thanks for stopping by!

Father’s Day Card by Audrey Pettit | www.rangerink.com
I’m off to a bit of a late start to my week, with a Tuesday post instead of my usual Monday. It’s been busy here, with lots of things on my to-do list….. but busy in a very good way. Tomorrow we’re heading out on vacation. I’m going home, friends! Home to visit my family. 🙂

It’s a very rare occurrence for me, but this year I get to spend Father’s Day with my dad. And of course a special occasion like that calls for a handmade card. So I have pulled out some of my favorite inky Ranger and Tim Holtz goodies to create this retro, masculine Father’s Day card for him, which I’m very excited to be sharing this week on the Ranger Ink blog.

My parents live near San Francisco, so it seems only fitting to pull out this amazing Tim Holtz Cityscape die for his Father’s Day card this year. I love all the individual pieces that come in this collection, but for this card, I used one of the border dies to create a quick and easy city scene, layered onto a Stitched Rectangles die cut frame.

I pulled out some of the darker range of Distress inks to watercolor the buildings, and then added highlights to the vellum windows with a yellow Distress marker. The sky was water-colored, too, with a golden glow for a sunny background.

I added some stamps and splatters, and a grungy finish with opaque Texture Paste. Papers from the Memoranda paper stash and a die cut sentiment banner.

I’ve got the complete step-by-step tutorial up on the Ranger Ink blog, if you’d like to learn more!

P.S.~ Today is the last chance to snatch up the few remaining goodies in my AudOnes Prims shop before I close for vacation. There’s still a couple of items from my nautical summer mini-release, and even a few remaining spring prims, as well. Last chance!

Have a wonderful day, everyone! I’m heading out tomorrow, but hope to visit and post while I’m away.  So, my friends, I will see you all soon!

Lamppost Lantern Box with Sizzix & Tim Holtz

Happy Friday, Crafty Friends!

Today I have a DIY home decor project to share that I made with the adorable Lantern Box Bigz die from the new Sizzix Tim Holtz spring 2017 release. Recently I shared a fun garland home decor project featuring these lanterns. And now I’m back with a different look and new idea for using the lantern to create quick and easy home or party decor.

These little lanterns are so easy to create, and I love that they are the perfect size for holding battery-operated tea-light candles. This time, I die cut my lantern from crisp black cardstock, and lined the interior of the windows with clear acetate. A bit of Picket Fence Distress Crayon rubbed along the creases and edges adds a bit of shabby charm. If you’d like to see step-by-step directions for assembling this lantern die, check out my tutorial on the Sizzix blog here.

Love the versatility of this cute lantern. Last time I hung several from a string of twine to create a garland, and here I added a simple pedestal made from a stack of wooden spools painted with Black Soot Distress paint. Now this lantern reminds me of the lamppost from the Chronicles of Narnia series. Am I right there?

To dress up my lamppost I added ivy greenery from the Garden Greens Thinlits die set. I die cut the greens from watercolor paper and then watercolored the leaves with Distress ink. Picket Fence Distress paint was added to the edges of the leaves for that variegated look ivy so often has. And finally, a bird charm from the Idea-ology Treasures Adornments was tied to the top with twine.

Thanks so much for stopping by! And wishing all my fabulous mom friends out there an absolutely wonderful Mother’s Day weekend! ❤

Mother’s Day with Ranger Ink

Hello Friends! Happy Monday!

Apologies for the very late start to my blog post! My internet was down for most of the day, and has only just come back online. Just in time for me to sneak in with a sweet Mother’s Day card project that I have up on the Ranger Ink blog today.

I have been so taken recently with the new Tim Holtz Scroll die mixed with some of his wildflower thinlits, and this seemed the perfect combo once again for Mother’s Day. After all, all moms love flowers, right?

This time I used the newer Wildflower #2 set, water colored with Distress inks and Distress Oxide, along with the shiny glam look of gold Deco paper for the “greens”. I embossed the frame with the Lace Texture Fade and die cut the opening with my favorite Stitched Ovals die set. Use some new goodies like an Index Clip, Salvaged Baseboard, and Quotation sticker.

The inside is embellished with a die cut word strip and accent Clippings sticker. I used some of the leftover letters to add the sentiment on the outside, too.

I’ve got the complete step-by-step tutorial up on the Ranger Ink blog, if you’d like to learn more!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you’re all having a wonderful day!
