Valentine Monsters with Sizzix

Hello, hello friends, and happy Valentine’s Day! Any special plans with your sweeties in the works for today? I’m having more of a “Galentine’s” crafty day with a gal pal today. Laughing and crafting, maybe coffee and treats, sounds like my kind of day. And I couldn’t let the day pass without creating some little goody bags for my two Valentines. My kiddos may be all grown up now…. but who doesn’t like a few sweet treats, right?

Of course a treat bag needs a good tag tie. So I pulled out some of my favorite dies and lots of pretty new Distress Oxide inks to whip up my tags for this year. Who says monsters are only good for Halloween?

To create these tags, I die cut and layered two tag shapes together from the Tim Holtz Tag die set, die cutting an oval shape from the center of the second tag. I used a layering stencil on the top tag, ink blended in my all time favorite Valentine color palette of pink and brown. I used the same colors to create a smooshed ink background for the window opening, and then added those silly pieced monsters. Those guys really make me smile.

I hand-cut polka dots to add to my monsters, and hand-cut hearts, too. I am crazy about Ranger’s Opaque Crackle Texture Paste these days, so that was rubbed into the corners and spots. A bit of Distress Crayon really brings out the great cracks and texture. I added dots of Glossy Accents to the eyes. The sentiments are stamps from my sweet friend, Emma, at My Creative Time.

Hope you all have a wonderful Valentine’s Day! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Valentine Love at AudOnes Prims

** Hi, Friends! If you’re looking for my Creativation 2018- Tim Holtz Blog Hop and Give Away post, please click HERE!**

Happy Sunday, everyone! And happy Super Bowl Sunday to all the football fans out there!

It has been quite awhile since I’ve had the chance to share any of my shabby sweet fabric projects with you. The holidays and my new work schedule, and then the Creativation (CHA) show following right behind, has left little time for play…. and I sure do miss it. So I was super excited earlier this week to grab a chance to sit down at my sewing machine and whip up some soft and pretty Valentine hearts for the month of love!

There’s just something about the process of crafting things by hand that brings such a sense of happiness and joy to me. What fun it is to watch the project evolve along every little step of the way, and see that finished spark of an idea come to life. These little cuties have really been put through the ringer, and I love how they turned out. The sweet recycled fabric with the little rips and tears that perfectly meld with the aged painted, stained, and sanded finish. The paper crafting supplies brought in for the finishing touches….Distress inks for dying the fabrics and trims. Archival ink for stamping. Old favorite Hero Arts stamps for verse. Maya Road designer pins. And dies for spiral roses. Makes me smile. Hope you do, too.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Enjoy your football today!

And in case you’re interested, you can find these shabby little XOXO hearts listed in my AudOnes Prims Shop. ❤ Have a great day!

Valentine Pocket Pouches with Therm O Web

Happy Friday, Sweet Friends!

Today I have a Valentine treat holder idea to share that I made recently for the Therm O Web blog. A pair of sweet and simple fabric pocket pouches, perfect for a few holiday treats, and easy enough to make in bulk, even at the very last minute.

We don’t go big on Valentine’s Day at my house. Neither one of my kids has much of a sweet tooth, but I rarely let the day pass without gifting some small treat or trinket. This year, it’s a few Lindt chocolates tucked into these little fabric pouches. A fun alternative to the traditional paper gift bag.

The basic construction of these pouches is super easy, and the great thing is they can be made from any remnant fabric scraps you may already have at home. I lined the pouches with Therm O Web Stitch n’ Sew fleece for extra stability, and tied the tops off with some favorite ribbons and trim. Add a quick love note or hang tag, and you are good to go.

Simply start with a rectangle of fabric, fold in the sides, and secure with a bit of stitching. For a no-sew option, try Therm O Web’s Fabric Fuse adhesive. And for further instructions, check out my step-by-step tutorial on the Therm O Web blog.

Happy weekend, Friends! Thanks so much for stopping by!

AudOnes Prims- Valentine Misfit Dolls

Happy Friday, Crafty Friends!

It’s been a right long time since I’ve had the chance to play with fabric. Between the rush of the holidays and the Creativation CHA show in January, there hasn’t been an extra moment to spare. And you all know me….. I go through withdrawals without my fabrics. I do.

I finally carved out enough time to re-bond with my sewing machine this past week, and that makes me one very happy girl. I’m pushing it on Valentine’s this year, getting the late start that I am. But I couldn’t let the holiday pass completely. So I do have a couple of little misfit dollies to offer today. For your special Valentine, or for you.

There’s silly sweet Valentine voodoo dollies, and a new Valentine art doll, too.

A few little treasures to share with you, just listed in my AudOnes Prims shop.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Always and Forever with PhotoPlay Paper

Happy February, Crafty Friends!

Recently I’ve had the great honor of creating projects for PhotoPlay Paper using their newest lines, including the 12 new collections they released for Creativation this year. But before the 12, there was their adorable Valentine line, So Loved. Since today kicks off the month of love, I thought I would share a little love themed project. And if you’re on PhotoPlay Paper’s email list, the downloadable instruction sheet for this project went out today.

This little love note looks much like a card, but is actually a home decor desk frame made from recycled materials. The base is made from raw chipboard, like a cereal box or some leftover packaging material. Or pieces of a cardboard box would do, too.

I love adding little seasonal touches like this to my home decor.  Or this would make a great handmade gift idea for your special Valentine this year. The design is very simple, and can be dressed up in style you choose. Decorate two panels, punch holes in the top, and thread them together with ribbon or twine. I call this an easel-style frame, since it opens with a hinge at the top. Or maybe you would call it a sandwich-board.

If you’re interested in free instructions for projects like these, including layout and card designs, home decor, free cutting files, and more, be sure to sign up for PhotoPlay Paper‘s email list.

Thanks so much for stopping by! And for those of you who’ve been asking…. I am working on a few special Valentine’s for my AudOnes Prim shop. Creativation being later this year has really put me behind, but a few little things are coming.

CHA 2016- You are My Sweetheart with Tim Holtz & Sizzix

Hello, Friends! It’s just a few days until Valentine’s Day!  And of course I couldn’t let the day pass without sharing a fun lovey-dovey project with you, featuring some of my most favorite love birds of all…. those crazy Bird Crazy birds from Tim Holtz and Sizzix.

AudreyPettit TimHoltz SweetheartHanger
What’s Valentine’s Day without the love? Well these silly little birds have plenty to share with you. I can’t think of a more fitting Valentine than these crazy birds, and their matching Crazy Things hearts and Crazy Talk sentiment. So love that there are tons of adorable accessories and greetings to go with these birds, for every occasion. And love even more that there are Sizzix dies for all of them. And how fun is that new Mosaic Bigz Die background that creates the perfect little window frames for all your little bits and pieces? The mosaic die has quickly become a new favorite of mine. Use the positive frame, or the negative shapes…. turn it upside down, or flip it to the other side. There are just so many ways to use this die!

AudreyPettit TimHoltz SweetheartHanger2
It never ceases to amaze me how closely the Bird Crazy and Crazy Things Thinlits dies cut to the edge of the images. It’s as close to fussy cutting as you can possibly get, without all the work. You gotta love that!

AudreyPettit TimHoltz SweetheartHanger3
And I love how the Mosaic die cuts almost a tower framework with so many little windows that can be filled with so many different things. I used a layer of fun foam behind the mosaic to create a dimensional window frame here, with my pair of birds tucked in and behind the openings for a 3D effect. Here’s a little closer peek at the new Mosaic die.

AudreyPettit TimHoltz SweetheartHanger Tut1
Since the Mosaic die is a Bigz die, it can die cut all sorts of surfaces and materials, including thick substrates, like the watercolor paper and fun foam combo I used here. I used adhesive-backed fun foam, available at your local big box craft store to create an instant dimensional window frame. Much easier than trying to apply foam tape or dots to some of those thin bridge areas between the rectangular openings.

AudreyPettit TimHoltz SweetheartHanger Tut2
To die cut, simply adhere the fun foam to the back of your paper, and run it through your Big Shot machine using this standard die cutting sandwich for Bigz dies: Standard Cutting Pad, Bigz die (cutting side up), paper or surface to be cut, Standard Cutting Pad.

Once your frame is die cut, you can add color with your Distress Inks as usual, watercolor, or add a layer of patterned paper. Just avoid hitting the foam with a heat tool if you’ve used any watercolor techniques, as the heat will quickly melt the foam layer.

AudreyPettit TimHoltz SweetheartHanger5
Then have fun adding your images and accents. And speaking of accents…. I went a little crazy with the Glossy Accents. And the gold! Check out that gorgeous gold metallic cardstock and Tim’s new Gilded remnant rubs. Swoon! And how about that adorable hanger? That is one of the new Idea-ology Display Hangers, and I am crazy about them. Little tip for you…. the hangers are originally silver, but are easily alterable, like all Idea-ology findings. I quickly turned mine gold with a few dabs of Tarnished Brass Distress Spray Stain.

Thank you so much for stopping by today! Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!

Deco Foil Valentine with Therm O Web

iCraft-Foils Color-Shot

Hello, hello friends! Happy mid-week to you all! Today I have a sweet home decor project to share with you. A little Valentine decor I made for Therm O Web using their fabulous new Deco Foils.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb DecoFoil LoveValentinePillowOf course Valentine’s Day is all about the love. And what better way to show your love than with a great big heart. So for Valentine’s this year, I’ve made one of my favorite home decor projects… a big ol’ paper pillow. This time in the shape of a heart, done up in pretty pinks and red for the holiday.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb DecoFoil LoveValentinePillow2Every good Valentine needs a little love note. I’ve attached mine in a glassine envelope, dressed up with doilies and die cuts, and tied up in some of my favorite trims.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb DecoFoil LoveValentinePillow4The real star of the show to me, though, is the pretty love script sentiment, covered in red Deco Foil. It’s so easy to do just using your favorite dies and Therm O Web’s double-sided adhesive foam. I’ve got the how-to’s up on the Therm O Web blog, if you’d like to learn more.

Fun-Fold Valentines with Authentique Crush

Hello, Friends! Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and that your weeks are getting off to a great start. I am just home from my annual 4-day scrapbook retreat in Myrtle Beach, and am ready to share some fun projects. Today, I have a pair of Valentines for you, made with Authentique’s adorable Crush collection.

Crush is seriously the cutest Valentine collection. I am loving all the prints in pinks and bright red, and the vintage cut-apart images are simply adorable. Both of my cards today are made with the Crush Card Making Stack. Such a great time-saving tool for card makers, as all the work of measuring, cutting, and scoring has already been done for you. And in both cards, I utilized the extra tear-away selvedge strip to create some unique fun-fold designs.

You can see the flap on the right hand side here, folded over the outside of the card and tied with a big shabby bow. Love that little extra interactive element of untying the bow to get inside. I added a printed die cut tab to the edge of the flap, then layered the front with a bit of patterned paper and a layered Authentic Life Journaling Card and cut apart vintage image. The photo corners are from Therm O Web. Then a few pink sequins.

My second card shows off a bit of the pretty blue in this collection. Once again, this card uses the selvedge strip to create a fun-fold design, and the card is tied closed with twine. But this time, the fold is on the inside to make a pocket. Great spot to tuck a note, or photo, or even a gift-card, like I’ve done with mine.

Another die cut file tab and a printed Authentic Life Journaling Card. Sequins and a diction sentiment sticker. The die cut hearts are from the Heart 2 Hearts Love Frames stamp and die set by My Creative Time. I’ve got the full step-by-step tutorial for both card designs up on the Authentique blog, if you’d like to learn more.

Wishing you all a wonderful day!

Violets are Blue with BasicGrey

Although most of us are trying to get a start on our holiday projects these days, today I am going to do a bit of a time jump and share with you a fun Valentine-inspired card that I made with a brand new line from BasicGrey called J’Adore. J’Adore is the sweetest little lovey-dovey collection, perfect for all your love-themed projects, in a very beautiful and unique color combination for Valentine’s Day. It is quite different from the same ol’, same old… and I think you guys will really like it!

AudreyPettit BG J'Adore VioletsAreBlueAlthough most traditional Valentine’s lines are filled with lots and lots of pink, J’Adore brings a whole new range of colors into the mix, including turquoise, raspberry, and lime and olive green. I created a little love note card here incorporating the whole mix of color for a bit of a different take on the norm. And that really works for me.

AudreyPettit BG J'Adore VioletsAreBlue2

I really love the new vellum envelopes, so let that be the star of my design. I placed a 3×4 Lil’ Snippet card and fancy die cut label shape inside the envelope, then made a stitched liner from plain white cardstock. The little transparency hearts look like they are bubbling right out of the top.

AudreyPettit BG J'Adore VioletsAreBlue3A transparency strip sentiment cut down to size, lots of pretty candy buttons, and a bit of simple twine. I’ve got more details, including the complete supply list and free downloadable project sheet up today on the BasicGrey blog, if you’d like to learn more.

Ok, time to re-wind back into Thanksgiving mode. Tomorrow is my birthday, and this weekend, my boy will be coming home to spend an early Thanksgiving with us. I have so much to be thankful for… so many wonderful blessings. And at the top of that list, I always count YOU, my sweet friends! Thanks so much for stopping by. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
