Fresh Baked #1 with Tim Holtz & Sizzix

Happy Monday, sweet friends! I’m back today with a festive card share featuring new seasonal products from the 2018 Tim Holtz and Sizzix Holiday release. This is the silly sweet Fresh Baked die set, along with the new Stacked Tags set… a fabulous everyday die set that’s quickly becoming a favorite staple in my crafty stash.

There are two Fresh Baked die sets in the holiday release this year. This is the Fresh Baked #1 die set, which includes a star, heart, mitten, and snowman shape, as well as this cute Santa here. My favorite thing about these sets is that the images all look like iced cookies, ready for the holidays. So cute all on their own, just filling a plate, or great for packages, cards, and quick holiday tags.

Look at all the sweet details on Santa’s face! They are all layering dies that are included in the set. I used kraft cardstock for the base to mimic the look of a real baked cookie, and then mixed white cardstock and sanded Kraft Stock Distress cardstock for the rest of the details. A white gel pen and Glossy Accents adds a highlight and shine to the eyes. And a fuzzy pompom and icy Stickles glitter adds texture and holiday sparkle to the hat and beard.

I absolutely love the new Stacked Tags dies, and as I mentioned above, they have quickly become one of my top go-to everyday sets because they can be used for everything. I die cut two tags and the hole reinforcer, stacked them together as the name implies, and added detail with ink, texture paste, a scalloped border, and Idea-ology die cut ephemera. The holly is an oldie (but a goodie) from the Holiday Greens die set.

The background is a quirky mix of round die shapes from a variety of previously released Alterations sets. Stitched Circles, Gift Tags, and a beautiful lacy doily, too. A fun blend of shabby chic.

Be sure to check out the video below for a full preview of the first half of the Tim Holtz Sizzix 2018 Holiday release, along with lots of fun project ideas featuring the new dies!

Thanks for stopping by! Hope your week is off to a great start!

Going Batty with Tim Holtz & Sizzix

Hi crafty friends! I’m sneaking back in with another project and some fun news today…. because let’s face it, once the holiday season hits there is so much to share. For those of you, like me, who are anxiously awaiting the Tim Holtz Sizzix Halloween release, I am so excited to let you know that the dies are now available at your favorite local retailer and online shops !

I was super fortunate to have received some of the new dies ahead of time to make samples for the reveal, and I can’t wait to start sharing with you the fun projects I created. Be sure to check out the video above for tons of fall and Halloween project ideas from a whole group of very talented designers who have been working hard behind the scenes to provide lots of inspiration for the season. Those of you who have been following me for awhile, can you pick out my projects?
I’d love to hear!
Let the spooks begin!

I don’t know how often one can say this, but I truly love every single die set from the new Halloween release.  When I was a young college student, I fell in love with Anne Rice’s vampire Lestat, so it seemed only fitting to start with this majestic guy today. This is the vampire from the new Ghoulish dies, a set of three silhouette-style images that also includes an awesome skeleton and monster figurine, as well as the bat used here.

Check out all the detail to the outline of this thinlits die. It’s truly amazing what can be done these days with simple dies. I cut my vampire several times from heavyweight watercolor cardstock, and stacked the shapes together to create some depth. The top layer was watercolored with Distress inks in a deep rich color palette of blood red and black. One fun thing about these dies is that you can keep the figures in a silhouette design, or add features to them, like I’ve done here.

The background was inked and stenciled using the Halloween Mixed Media dies from a previous release. I went with sort of a vintage color palette of Aged Mahogany and Victorian Velvet, with a bit of Antique Linen thrown in, reminiscent of those old horror movies from the 1950’s. Classic haunted mansion. The sentiment was die cut from black Distress cardstock using the new Alphanumeric Cutout Upper alpha dies. You may notice that I did a bit of stenciling on that panel as well, using the negative leftover shape from the Drip Edge die I used on the top of the card.

And speaking of that drip edge, what a great bloody drip line it makes when inked in Aged Mahogany Distress and dotted with Glossy Accents. I inked the card base layer with mahogany ink to match, and then pulled in black cardstock for the rest of the design. I love how a simple paper distressor and a bit of Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide adds instant age to even the darkest cardstock.

So what do you all think of the Halloween release? Is your wish-list a mile long, too? Hit the comments below and tell me what’s your must-haves for the year. And as always, thanks so much for stopping by!

Thanks & Best Wishes with Therm O Web

Happy Fri-YAY, friends! Today is my day up on the Therm O Web blog, where I’m sharing a pair of cards I made for Creativations (CHA) with the new designer stencils and new colors of deco foil. And I wanted to share my cards with you all here, too.

I used the beautiful Tim Holtz Stamper’s Anonymous Flutter stamp set and some stitched circle dies for the focal panels, and layered them with simple patterned paper and sentiment strips. The graphic backgrounds were made with a bit of masking and inking, followed by deco foil stenciling to create the cool metallic pattern on top.

I always love a good side view of the deco foil. Really shows off its amazing texture and shine. I used my two favorite new colors of deco foil for these cards- denim and jade. And two of the new stencils in the Starburst and Pinwheel designs.

I’ve got the complete step-by-step tutorial for today’s cards up on the Therm O Web blog, if you’d like to learn more.

A Snow-Globe Shaker with Tim Holtz & Sizzix

Hello, hello Friends! Happy Friday! I don’t know about you all, but I am still working my way through my holiday cards, and today I am super excited to share with you my last Tim Holtz card for the season. A fun snow globe shaker card, made with lots of new Sizzix dies from the Tim Holtz holiday collection.

I so enjoyed putting this shaker design together, as it really is a fun miss-mash of several new sets. I love stretching the use of my dies by finding unique ways to use them, and this year’s holiday collection mixes and matches together just perfectly. I used three sets to create the scene here in the snow globe, and yet they look like one. What a great way to get lots of use from the dies that you own.

The Snowglobe2 Thinlits die set creates a lovely big dome for the globe, so to begin this card, I started with a square 5″ card base. The shaker frame is a second layer of patterned paper from the Tidings Paper Stash pad, with the snow globe shape die cut from the center. I die cut the globe base from inked paper and added it below, and then coated the whole with Distress crayon and a healthy dose of opaque crackle texture paste. A clear piece of acetate sheet is adhered to the back of the frame. This frame is popped up onto the card base to create depth for the shaker design.

The background of the window frame starts with a snowy watercolor panel die cut with the Winter Wonderland die set. A bit of blue and purple Distress ink added to the die cut gives the feel of a soft winter sky, and sets off the white look of the falling snow when placed against the white card base. The hill tree line next is from the Snowman Scene die set. I added green Distress ink to the trees, and then dabbed the tips of the trees and snow bank with more of the crackle paste. The bottom snowbank, the shrubs, and the church and houses are from the Snowglobe2 set… also dabbed in crackle to match.

A layer of foam adhesive behind the frame gives room for a shaker filled with sparkly mica glitter. And a sweet bow, greens, and tag add a finishing touch to the top of the globe.

Are you all on the Christmas countdown yet? Just over a week to go, and the to-do list here at my house is still a mile long. There’s still shopping and mailing and baking and wrapping, and yes… even decorating that needs doing. This year, I seem to be moving with molasses in my veins, but a heart filled with cheer! Thanks so much for stopping by, my friends! Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

2017 Halloween Inspiration Series with Tim Holtz- Monsters, Inc.

Hello, hello friends, and happy Monday once again! You all know by now how much I love me some Halloween! So today I am super excited to share this project with you… a frightfully fun Halloween card which is part of the 2017 Halloween Inspiration Series on the Tim Holtz blog this week.

Do you think it’s possible for monsters to be too cute to spook? I think these guys might just be. These silly boos are from the Monsters Thinlits die set, part of the new 2017 Sizzix Tim Holtz Halloween collection. I don’t know about you, but they so much remind me of the Monsters, Inc. characters which we so loved and adored when my kids were little. Lots of happy memories there.

The monsters were die cut from Distress cardstock, and pieced to create all their little features. They are sanded and inked, and dressed up with a few shabby polka dots for an extra bit of fun. I added detail to their eyes with a fine-tipped pen. The background was created from the Rosette Texture Fade embossing folder, inked in toxic green Distress and die cut with the Stitched Squares die set. Stitched the card to a background of Distress cardstock to match.

The monsters are popping out of a frame die cut with both the new Stitched Squares and Stitched Circles die set. I added some spooky cobweb stamping and inked the frame in contrasting green. The Halloween labels and spiderwebs all come from the Mini Halloween Stamper’s Anonymous stamp set. Sentiment banners are made using Gothic Remnant Rubs. All the details have been crumpled and creased, inked and stapled for that aged look I love so well.

Be sure to check out the Tim Holtz blog for lots of Halloween inspiration throughout the month of October. And thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful day!

Creativation 2017- Life is Wonderful with Tim Holtz

Hiya Crafty Friends! Happy Wednesday!

Today I have another one of my Tim Holtz Creativation show projects to share, and this time, it’s something a little bit different. I know you all have seen me playing with this fabulous new Scroll Bigz die on several projects I’ve shared already. But today I’m bringing the Scroll die out of the background accent pieces and into the spotlight with this shabby altered home decor panel.

I’ve really loved using the Scroll die cuts as flourishes and leafy green accents mixed with floral bouquets, but for this project, I wanted to show how you can use these pieces all on their own, too. And since the Scroll die is a Bigz die, that means you can die cut all sorts of materials besides your standard paper, like the chipboard I used here, die cut and stacked up three deep for lots of depth and dimension.

I find that I have certain colors that I tend to gravitate to over and over. But for this project, I challenged myself to use Distress colors that I often overlook, and I’m so glad I did. I really love this combo of Wilted Violet, Blueprint Sketch, Faded Jeans, and Weathered Wood, applied in a watercolor wash over the surface that was pre-coated first in a layer of paint. I added some stamping to the scrolls in matching Distress ink, and then finished with Glossy Accents once everything was dry.

I love how the vibrant color of the scrolls pops against the neutral background. That is some of the new Memoranda Paper, brushed with paint, inked, splattered, and stamped, on one of the backing boards from the new Mini Framed Panels. New Idea-ology tissue tape on the edges, and a bit of Distress marker work to create a frame.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a very wonderful day!

AudreyPettit 28LilacLane ElephantBirthdayShakerTag
My sweet daughter just recently celebrated her 18th birthday, and I wanted to make something fun and festive to add to her presents. Perfect excuse for a shaker tag, right?

AudreyPettit 28LilacLane ElephantBirthdayShakerTag2

I really love that adorable elephant, and love this little garden scene for a spring birthday. I chose my daughter’s favorite colors for the palette, water coloring the images with Distress Inks, and picking a patterned paper to match. The background was inked and layered with punched clouds and a grassy border below. And the shaker? Filled with the most perfect 28 Lilac Lane embellishments.

XOXO with Sizzix

Hiya Sweeties! Happy Friday! Just two more days until graduation!

AudreyPettit-Project#4-HelloCard
Today I wanted to share a quick Sizzix tutorial with you, for creating a sweet all-occasion friendship card using a fun mix of Tim Holtz Alterations dies and Idea-ology vintage ephemera.

AudreyPettit-Project#4-HelloCard4
This card uses some of my most favorite things. Pretty Distress Inks, some awesome dies, a big shabby bow, and lots of fun vintage images. But I have to say that my favorite part has got to be that cool honeycomb pattern in the background, made with just one of the four intricate pattern dies from the Mixed Media Thinlits die set.

AudreyPettit-Project#4-HelloCard2
I die cut that panel from manila cardstock, and then inked it up with a variety of yellow and green Distress colors, such as Peeled Paint, Scattered Straw, and Wild Honey. The inner pieces were removed and inked separately, so that I could get a wider range of color. I then layered the panel onto a second piece of manila cardstock, and pieced some of the die cut shapes back into the honeycomb, leaving the rest empty. Kinda like building a jigsaw puzzle.

AudreyPettit Sizzix ThinlitsFramelitsSandwich
To get started, die cut the honeycomb lattice Mixed Media die from manila cardstock using this standard Sizzix die cutting sandwich for Thinlits and Framelits dies: Magnetic Platform, Standard Cutting Pad, paper, die (cutting side down), Standard Cutting Pad.

AudreyPettit Ranger ThankfulHanging Tut1
Dab a variety of Distress Inks or Stains onto a non-stick craft sheet. Mist the inks liberally with water until beads form. Remove the inner pieces from the die cut panel, and then press the front of the cardstock into the ink mixture. Allow to dry completely. You can repeat this process, if you’d like to darken or intensify any of the color.

AudreyPettit Sizzix TrulyGreatFriendsTag Tut3
Cut a length of Tim Holtz Crinkle Ribbon that is about 12-15 inches long, and use the ribbon to mop up any remaining ink on the craft sheet. Set the ribbon aside to dry. Add a bit more Distress Ink to the craft sheet, and ink just the inner pieces of the honeycomb lattice. Set those aside to dry, too. If you’ve got any ink left over, bring back the ribbon, and mop it up again.

AudreyPettit-Project#4-HelloCard3
Layer the honeycomb panel onto a larger piece of manila cardstock, and then onto a layered card base. I used two pieces of Distress Core’dinations cardstock for my card. Sew around the edges of the panel, if desired, and then piece the inner shapes back like a puzzle. Add a bit of Clear Rock Candy Distress Paint over the lattice area when you are finished. Then add some vintage images. I used two botanical and nature prints from the Thrift Shop Idea-ology ephemera pack.

AudreyPettit-Project#4-HelloCard5

The sentiment was die cut from a strip of manila cardstock using one of Tim’s new Thinlits die sets called Friendship Words: Block. I removed the positive letters and set them aside for another project, choosing to use the negative space instead. That’s what I love the most about this die set…. so versatile, and with 16 words in the set, you’ll have no trouble finding the right word for any occasion.

A Doodlebug Smile with Sizzix

Hello, hello my friends! Happy Wednesday. Today I have a cute little smile to share with you. A fun watercolor smile card I made this week for the Sizzix blog using new Doodlebug Designs stamps, embossing folders, and dies.

AudreyPettit Sizzix SmileCard
I am really excited that Sizzix has been coming out with more and more coordinating stamp and die sets lately. This month, Sizzix is releasing several new sets from Doodlebug Designs, which I couldn’t wait to play with. Isn’t this little birdie just adorable?

AudreyPettit Sizzix SmileCard2

The bird is from the new A Little Birdy Told Me Framelits stamp and die set. I have been crushing on watercoloring lately, so that is what I did here, using a variety of Distress ink pads.

AudreyPettit Sizzix SmileCard3
I nestled a few tags shapes for some framework for my birdie. Added a new Sizzix stamp sentiment and a bit of Tim Holtz greenery, too. The papers are from BasicGrey’s beautiful new Tea Garden collection.

AudreyPettit Sizzix SmileCard4
The background is another fun new product from Doodlebug that Sizzix is releasing this month. A woodgrain embossing folder, done up in a bit more watercolor Distress. I’ve got a full tutorial up on the Sizzix blog, if you’d like to learn more.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful day!

Sizzix Tutorial- Let’s Explore

Hi everyone, and happy Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Today I have a quick Sizzix tutorial to share with you featuring new Tim Holtz Alterations dies from the March release.

AudreyPettit-Project#7-ExploreCard
Tim’s March release is all about exploration and travel, and is filled with fun global inspired products. I used three of his new sets here, mixed with an earthy palette of Distress and Idea-ology to create a shabby, grungy travel card that’s perfect for someone setting off on a vacation, or starting a new journey in life.

AudreyPettit-Project#7-ExploreCard2

This is the Postage Dots Thinlits and Mini Airplane & Cloud Movers & Shapers from the March release. And the sentiment is from the new Adventure Words Block Thinlits set. I added lots of layers of Core’dinations Distress cardstock, and some Idea-ology Wallflower patterned paper and Thrift Shop Ephemera, too. Remnant Rubs add a bit of extra detail as well.

AudreyPettit-Project#7-ExploreCard3
I love the way the world looks in miniature when viewed from the window of an airplane. Almost like a giant patchwork quilt. And that’s exactly what this panel die cut with the new Postage Dots die reminded me of, and what I tried to re-create on my card. I really adore the rich, earthy color I got using some of my favorite colors of Distress.

AudreyPettit Sizzix ThinlitsFramelitsSandwich
To create my main panel, I die cut the larger Postage Dots die from manila cardstock using this standard Sizzix die cutting sandwich for Thinlits and Framelits dies: Magnetic Platform, Standard Cutting Pad, paper, die (cutting side down), Standard Cutting Pad.

P1080540
The Postage Dots die pierces all those tiny holes you see separating the sections.. but as often the case with such intricate dies, some of the tiny pieces may be left behind. That’s where a new Sizzix tool, the Die Brush, comes in mighty handy.

P1080542
Simply lay your die cut down onto the foam pad included in the kit, and roll over the top with the die brush. The bristles of the brush get down into the cuts and grooves, and remove all the tiny pieces for you.

AudreyPettit-Project#7-ExploreCard4
Then my panel was ready for color, which I applied by masking off each section with post-it notes, and inking with a Ranger ink blending tool. Once each section was colored, I lightly spritzed the panel with water to blend and bloom the ink.

AudreyPettit Sizzix MoversShapersSandwich
The sentiment lettering was die cut also from manila cardstock using the Sizzix sandwich mentioned above, and inked with blue Distress. I used the positive letter cuts from the Word Blocks dies, but you could just as easily use the negative space to create some fun and unique title work. The airplane and cloud were die cut using Tim Holtz Grungeboard. Since the Mini Airplane & Cloud dies are Movers & Shapers dies, you will need to use the Movers & Shapers Base Tray and this die cutting sandwich: Standard Cutting Pad, Base Tray, die (cutting side up), paper, Standard Cutting Pad.

I inked and painted the airplane and cloud, then added a shiny coat of Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint. Added them to my card using foam adhesive. Then finished off with a few rubs and a bit of twirled string for the plane’s contrail.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful day!
