Being There with My Favorite Things

Happy Wednesday, Friends!

Today I am once again revisiting those adorable chefs from My Favorite Things,

Recipe for Happiness

AudreyPettit MFT BeingThereCard
I didn’t originally intend to end up with so many little chef cards all at once. What started out as an experimentation in coloring with the Zig Clean Color markers ended up yielding a mini mountain of silly little chefs. And really, it would be a shame to let them go to waste, right?

AudreyPettit MFT BeingThereCard2
After quite a bit of practicing, I decided I like the look of blending out the markers with a wet paintbrush the best. And this time, I added in a bit of paper piecing on his chef coat and scarf. Seriously gave my clunky fingers a work out to trim around that scarf, but I think it turned out so cute.

Like my other little chef cards, these papers are once again from the BasicGrey Sun Kissed 6×6 paper pad. After my first couple of cards, I ended up with a pile of scraps that I would then challenge myself to use up on the next card. Which felt pretty good until I realized I was just making even more scraps as I went along. Tell me, friends…. do you think the scrap paper pile ever truly gets any smaller? 😀

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a very wonderful day!

Tons of Fun with My Favorite Things

Happy Friday Friends!

Today I am joining in on the fun over at My Favorite Things with a card made for this week’s sketch challenge.

I am still on my quest to use up some of my older supplies, so once again I am turning to one of my favorite BasicGrey collections, Sunkissed, for my card today. And am pairing it with the super adorable elephants from My Favorite Things’ Adorable Elephants set.

AudreyPettit MFT TonsofFunCard
That cute little elephant and her butterfly friends just make you smile, don’t they? I stamped the images onto watercolor paper, and colored them with Zig Clean Color markers before die cutting with the matching Die-namics dies.

Added a simple sentiment strip for my ellie to perch on. Seriously love those puns! The circle behind was inked with two colors of Distress Ink, then lightly spritzed with water for a bit of extra interest.

Thank you so much for stopping by! And huge thanks for all the lovely birthday wishes for my daughter’s birthday this week! Happy Weekend!

You are Flippin’ Awesome with MFT

Hello everyone! Happy Monday!

Today I have another card to share featuring those silly chefs from My Favorite Things.

AudreyPettit MFT FlippinAwesomeCard
So I mentioned last week that I had recently gotten the opportunity to play with this adorable Recipe for Happiness stamp set while I was off on my last scrapbooking retreat. I’ve been so curious about the Zig Clean Color markers, and one of the gals at the retreat was nice enough to let me play with her stamps and markers for the day. Several of you have asked me what I thought of the markers, and I have to say, I really did love them. They blend beautifully, and I love that you can use them with or without water, and they work just as well either way.

AudreyPettit MFT FlippinAwesomeCard2
I did lots of practicing with the markers, and tried them out both ways. This little chef here was blended out with water and a wet paintbrush, and I really like that softer look. I stamped a couple of the spatulas, too, and colored them the same way before die cutting all of my images with the matching die-namics dies.

AudreyPettit MFT FlippinAwesomeCard3
I popped the chef onto the card base using foam adhesive, and tucked the spatulas behind his back. Love the pun sentiments that go along with this set. Just added some simple angled sentiment strips onto my simple pieced background. I only brought along a small stash of patterned papers on this trip in my quest to use up my older supplies. This, along with all my little chef cards, is made from BasicGrey’s Sun Kissed 6×6 paper pad. Love that they all ended up looking like a matching set.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a great start to the week!

In a Pinch with My Favorite Things

Happy Monday Friends! I hope you and yours had a wonderful Easter weekend!

Today I have a card to share, made with the adorable Recipe for Happiness set from My Favorite Things.

AudreyPettit MFT InaPinchCard

I have been wanting to experiment with the Zig Clean Color markers for the longest time, and I was so excited when a friend let me play with her markers and stamps for most of a day while we were off at the beach this past week.

AudreyPettit MFT InaPinchCard2

The little chefs from this set truly crack me up. Once I started I couldn’t stop, and ended up making six cards, all using paper from my scrap pile. After all, I could use the practice. 😀

Matchbook Valentine’s with BasicGrey

SUN_blog_header

Hello, hello! Happy Friday, my friends! I have a little Valentine project to share with you today. Some sweet mini Valentine notecards that I made for BasicGrey using their adorable Sunkissed collection.

AudreyPettit BG Sunkissed JusttheGirlsI loved Valentines when I was a kid. I think my favorite were the interactive kind, with a hidden surprise inside. These matchbook-style Valentines are perfect for adding that extra element of fun to your kids’ classroom cards this year. I think they will get a kick out of clipping and removing the clothespins and die cuts up top, and tucking and un-tucking the top flap, too.

AudreyPettit BG Sunkissed JusttheGirls2And the best thing is, these little cards are so easy to create, even for kids. Just simple tri-fold cards, secured at the bottom with a staple. The top of the card slips behind the bottom flap to stay in place, and easily flips up to reveal the inside.

AudreyPettit BG Sunkissed JusttheGirls3

I added several layers of Sunkissed patterned papers to the front of the card, and a few strips across the bottom flap. Twine from the embellishment pack was wrapped around the front flap of the card and through a die cut tag. Cut a small slit in the top fold of the card for the twine to pass through. Then dress up the front with additional accents like die cuts, clothespins, and sequins.

Open the card to reveal a secret message inside. Or, this is a great spot to attach a small piece of candy, a sticker, or a temporary tattoo.

AudreyPettit BG Sunkissed MainSqueezeI used the same design to create a boy Valentine, too. By changing out the papers and accents, you can get a whole different look from the same design. I stuck with a blue, grey, and yellow color scheme for my boy look, and added die cut tickets and labels for a more masculine feel.

AudreyPettit BG Sunkissed MainSqueeze2Love the main squeeze lemon image here. Riddles and jokes and puns were always a favorite with classroom cards.

I’ve got more details and information on creating these matchbook cards up on the BasicGrey blog, if you’d like to learn more. And unfortunately, this is my last post for BasicGrey.

I’m sure I’m not the only one surprised and saddened to hear their news this week. After twelve years in the industry, BasicGrey is leaving the scrapbooking world. They have always been one of my absolute top favorite companies, and I am going to miss them terribly. Another loss for the scrapbooking community.

To every thing there is a season…..

Thanks for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
