A Huge Celebration with Ranger Ink

Hello, crafty friends! I hope you are doing well, staying strong, and keeping the faith through these difficult times. We are doing good… knock on wood. But I think when all of this is finally over, that will call for a huge celebration, like this card that I made for the Ranger Ink project page says.

Ranger just recently released a new edition to their Stickles glitter line, Stickles Glitter Gel. This new glitter gel comes in a variety of metallic colors and works perfectly with stencils, like I’ve done here. I always love the sparkle and shine of a good glitter project. And if you look closely, you can see that these new gels contain fine glitter mixed with larger sequin pieces, which makes this product different from anything else I’ve seen on the market.

I mixed the new glitter gel with a touch of Distress Ink in soft pink, and a large sentiment stamp from the Ranger LetterIt collection. The heart stencil is new to Ranger, too.

I’ve got the complete step-by-step tutorial for this card project up on the Ranger Ink project page, if you’d like to learn more.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Be well!

Thank-Fall Tag Set with Ranger Ink

Happy Wednesday, crafty friends! It’s another frigid day here in the Carolina’s, but I refuse to give up on Fall just yet. So today I am back with another fall-inspired project. A set of thanksgiving gift tags that I made this week for the Ranger Ink Projects Page featuring their beautiful new Speckle Embossing Powders.

I love all the different textures and colors that are in these powders that give such a variegated finish. It’s the closest thing to the look of real enameling that I’ve yet to see. There are even large chunks that really look like stained glass when melted. So amazing what can be done these days with powders.

I love creating tags, and am always looking for different takes on the basic gift tag. For these tags I used two of my favorite and most-used Tim Holtz die sets to create the tag base… Stitched Rectangles and Stacked Tags. Fall Foliage die cuts, double-embossed in Speckle powders were used for the leaves. Vintage lace trim was added to the bottoms, and a mixture of Big Chat stickers and Alphanumeric dies make up the sentiments. Thought some Metallic Kraft Stock cardstock would go nicely with the golden tones of the embossing powders.

I think these would be so pretty used for fall birthdays and goody bags, don’t you? If you’re interesting in learning more, I’ve got the full step-by-step tutorial up on the Ranger Ink Projects Page blog. Thanks so much for stopping by! I am so very grate-fall and thank-fall for all of YOU!

Grand Adventure with Ranger Ink

Another month has zipped past, and here we are at summer already….  well, a few days shy of the official season, but the kiddos are off and it feels like summertime to me. Today I’m back to share a card that I made for a special feature article for Ranger in the springtime issue (issue 186) of Simply Cards & Papercraft Magazine. This bright butterfly card features lots of pretty colors of Ranger Distress, of course, and favorite dies and stamps from Tim Holtz. Seems very fitting for the season ahead.

That awesome butterfly is from the Flutter stamp set by Tim Holtz and Stamper’s Anonymous, and was die cut with the matching Sizzix die. I used a range of blue Distress inks to watercolor the image, and added white gel pen dots for detailing and a bit of black thread for antennae. The Garden Greens die cuts used for the foliage were watercolored with Distress, too. Sentiment is a mixture of Idea-ology metallic cardstock stickers with one of the Tim Holtz Shadow Script die sets.

Stitched Rectangle dies were used to create the inlaid frame. Basic black and white cardstock for the base and layers, with a bit of Distress cardstock for color. One of the awesome Tim Holtz shifter stencils (Diamonds) was used to make the fun angled panel in the background, too.

If you happened to pick up the spring Simply Cards & Papercraft issue, you’ll find the full step-by-step instructions for this card in the special Ranger insert.

Thanks for stopping by! Hope your summer is off to a great start, and is filled with many grand adventures!

Creativation 2019- Wish You Were Here with Ranger Ink

Hello friends, remember me? Sorry for my recent absence. Seems I’ve been taking a very unplanned blog break since bringing home my new little puppy, Finley. I knew a pup would keep me busy, but I had no clue that he would absorb as much of my time as he really does. Everything in the world is new to him, and he wants to explore it all.  He is definitely keeping me on my toes.

All this has left me very little time in the craft room, but I do have several recent projects to share, including this spring flower card that I made for the Ranger Ink booth at Creativation 2019 featuring the new Tim Holtz Wildflower Stems #2 die set and lots of bright and happy colors of Distress.

I used a mixture of stamping and stenciling to create the stacked layered background. The Flurry & Pine background stamp set created the cool chevron style print, and I used the Diamonds Shifter stencil, inked in soft Tattered Rose Distress, on the framework for the flower. The paper behind the oval opening is an old Project Life journaling card that I’ve had in my stash forever. Really love the pop of contrasting color that brought to all the hot pinks.

The flower and greens were die cut from Bristol and Distress cardstocks, and Distress inks were used to watercolor the stem and petals. I used the new Distress Archival Ink in Picked Raspberry to stamp the sentiment. Such a happy color combo, and so perfect for this first day of spring!

Hope you are all doing well! And I hope to be around to visit soon! I’m still not sure how much blogging I will get to in the next several weeks, cause believe it or not…. Finley actually chewed up my eyeglasses. Completely mangled them beyond use or repair. Right now I am stuck in a six-year-old prescription, and needless to say, I’m almost as blind as a bat. Good thing the little stinker is so cute!

Tim Holtz Creativation 2019 Blog Hop

Hello, crafty friends! Thanks so much for stopping by, and welcome to the Tim Holtz Creativation 2019 Blog Hop! Today I am joining in with a group of very talented designers to share a closer look at some of the booth projects that were showcased at Creativation in January featuring all the fabulous new products from the Tim Holtz collection.

I had the great pleasure of creating a few projects for the Tim Holtz Sizzix booth, and today I am excited to share my favorites from the show… a set of travel notebook journals made with the new Tiny Travel Globe die set from the upcoming Chapter 2 Sizzix release.

The Tiny Travel Globes are a continuation of the ever popular miniature snowglobe set that Tim released for the holidays this past year, and yes, these images are truly tiny and amazingly detailed. Each icon measures from about .5″ to 1″ in height, and all the little layered details you see here are individual die cuts. But never fear… all the pieces for each image come together on one die for super easy assembly.

There are the most adorable dimensional plastic domes that work with this set to create very lifelike 3D snow globe designs, but I wanted to show how these die cuts could be used in other ways. Each journal I created combines three or more images from the set into little framed travel scenes, perfect for documenting your favorite vacation sights and memories.

These travel notebooks measure about 3.5 “x 5.5”, and come in a pack of six from Amazon, making them super convenient and inexpensive to create in bulk. To add that aged and distressed appearance we all love so well, I started by adding some Distress ink splatters and Ranger black embossing powder to the edges of the journal before going over the cover with sand paper to scuff it up a bit. Next comes a layer of heavyweight cardstock, splattered and stamped in a really cool chevron-style print from the Flurry & Pine (CMS312) stamp set from Stamper’s Anonymous. I changed up the colors of each of the background to add a bit of variety to the set. Love the sort of primary-school color palette I used of red, yellow, green, and blue Distress ink. The backgrounds were then embellished with big chat stickers, and “held” in place with Idea-ology design tape.

The black frames were made by nesting a Stitched Ovals die in the center of a Stitched Rectangle die. I used the Tonic Studios paper distresser tool up scratch up the edges of the frame, and then added a bit of Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide ink with an ink blending tool. If you look very closely, you may notice some faint images that look like postage marks (Haberdashery CMS105) that I stamped randomly around the frames in Black Soot ink. And for more texture, black embossing powder was dry sprinkled onto the frames and very carefully heat set from the back with my heat tool.

The images for each vignette were all die cut and pieced from sanded Distress Kraft Stock cardstock, and I used additional pieces of the same cardstocks to help build the rest of the scenes. To keep the set uniform, I created sunny blue skies for each setting using Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean Distress inks on watercolor paper, and then layered on the additional detail pieces. Once you get started, it’s really fun to see where your imagination goes.

Each journal is tied closed with twine and fastened in a bow with a Idea-ology Typed Token. To make the tokens look as old as the rest of the journal, I dabbed them with Alcohol inks in Caramel and Rust. White Distress Crayon rubbed into the recesses really helps the lettering stand out. Last detail on each notebook is a destination sentiment strip die cut using the new Alphanumeric Label dies that are also coming out in the upcoming Chapter 2 release.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and enjoy the rest of the hop! But before you go, be sure to leave a comment here, and all along the hop, for your chance to win one of three amazing prize giveaways. Please leave comments before February 9th at midnight PST and 3 winners will be announced on February 10th.

Sizzix 2019 Chapter 1 Dies- Robotic by Tim Holtz

Hi Friends! I’m starting out 2019 with the worst blogger of the year award. It’s definitely not for lack of fun new projects to share…. but simply because I can’t seem to get near a computer these days. Not with a new little puppy needing and demanding my attention every moment. Just like a newborn baby, it seems.

But of course the big Creativation trade show is coming up this weekend, and that means there are tons of awesome new products coming out on the market right now. Including the new Tim Holtz Chapter 1 dies sets he sneaked on a Facebook Live event this past Friday. If you didn’t catch the news, Sizzix has revamped their releases into four different chapters that will be spread throughout the year. Chapter 1 dies are available right now! And Chapter 2 will be revealed at Creativation this weekend. SO much fun!

Part of the Chapter 1 release is this adorable new robot die set and the cool retro background cutouts you see here, from a set called Retro Repeat. Both of these sets have gone straight to the top of my new list of favorites because there is just so much you can do with these. Those robots are stinkin’ cute, and I love that there are gobs of dies included in the set for customizing your creations. The cover art on the packaging gives you some great ideas for piecing the bots, but really… the sky is the limit with these guys. Once you start assembling the parts, it can be quite hard to stop. 😀

If you caught Tim’s FB Live last week, you’ll have seen the creative possibilities of the Retro Repeat set, too. Like his recently released shifters stencils, these dies are designed to shift up and down, or side to side, to continue the patterns as far as you wish, and you end up with these cool negative die cut panels that make some really unique backgrounds. And the funky patterns pair perfectly with the new robots and atomic elements from the Chapter 1 release.

There are so many awesome new products on the horizon! My wish list is a mile long! How about you all? Have you started your Creativation 2019 must-have lists yet? I’d love to hear what’s on them!

I’m so sorry for my absence in blogland these days! Hope the pup gives me more free time soon, and HOPE to be around to visit, too! Until then, have an amazing week, my friends!

Fresh Baked #2 with Tim Holtz & Sizzix

Happy Friday, crafty friends, and thanks so much for stopping by! Is anybody else out there freaking out a little bit that today is the last day of November? As usual, I am already running behind on holiday preparations… and as usual, I wonder how I will get it all done. At least I do have a few holiday cards made.

This little gingerbread scene is the last of the cards that I made for the Tim Holtz 2018 Sizzix Holiday Release videos. These are from the second of the Fresh Baked die sets that Tim released this season. The set includes both gingers here, and a candy cane, tree, and stocking, too. All in the cutest cookie cutter style that you ever have seen.

To mimic the look of real fresh baked cookies, I die cut my gingers from kraft and brown cardstock, and added the details in white and red. Stickles was used to add holiday sparkle to the ric-rack, and then the cookies were coated in Glossy Accents for that frosting shine. The white dots around the gingers and around the oval frame are an extra detail I added by dipping the end of a paintbrush into Picket Fence Distress paint.

I pulled the colors from the cookies for the rest of the design. Kraft and red cardstock , red and brown ink, natural jute twine, red patterned paper from the old Memoranda collection. The sentiment lettering is from the new Cutout Script (3/4″) die set. I love how you can string them together to look like handwritten cursive writing.

I am a bit obsessed with Ranger crackle texture paste, and I added it all around the layers of this card. The frame was made with nested Stitched Oval and Stitched Rectangle dies, which was then embossed with the Simple Snowflakes texture fade. I lightly swiped an embossing ink pad over the raised areas and heat set the snowflakes with white embossing powder. The background of the frame was inked and splattered and stamped with the Stamper’s Anonymous Swirly Snowflakes stamp set in red Distress ink.

I had such fun designing cards for this holiday release. There are so many cute new die sets, and if you haven’t had a chance yet, check out the video below for project ideas on how to use them.

Hope your weekend is off to a great start! Tell me….are you all ready for December?

Be sure to check out these fabulous deals going on at Sizzix! Lots of amazing die sets are on sale this weekend, including some that I’ve used here today. (click on the photo banner below to shop)

A Glorious Bouquet with Ranger Ink

The weather forecast calls for solid rain and thunderstorms over the next 8 days… so things are kind of gloomy here in my neck of the woods right now. Not at all summer-like. I’m already missing the sunshine and blue skies, so thought I would cheer things up here with a summery card to chase away the grey. A sweet floral birthday card that I have the great pleasure of sharing today over on the Ranger Ink blog.

I love this Glorious Bouquet stamp by Tim Holtz, and thought it would be perfect to use for my friend, Paige’s, July birthday. I stamped a portion of the floral image in brown Archival ink onto a panel of watercolor paper, and then colored it in with Distress inks and markers. Added a drop shadow around the branches with marker. And blended things smooth with a wet paintbrush.

A pair of dimensional frames made with some Tim Holtz dies gives a bit of a shadowbox feel to the design. I inked the frames in a pretty Distress combo of Tattered Rose and Victorian Velvet, with some Brushed Corduroy thrown in because, well…. that’s my favorite. Ranger opaque crackle paste was rubbed into the corners, then brushed with perfect pearls for a soft shimmery finish.

I love how this card turned out. So perfectly shabby sweet, like only Distress can do. As always, I’ve got the full step-by-step tutorial up on the Ranger Ink blog, if you’d like to learn more.

Thanks so much for stopping by, friends! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! I got together with some of my scrappy gal pals for a day of cropping…. but then found out my car battery was dead. But what’s life without a bit of sweet and a bit of sour, right? Hope you all have lots of sweet in the week ahead!

A Friendly Hello with Ranger Ink

Happy Monday, friends! Thanks so much for stopping by! Today I have the great pleasure of guesting on the Ranger Ink blog. The focus of my project this time around is Distress Oxides… and I put these fun ink pads through a variety of techniques to make a bright and happy friendship card inspired by the pretty colors of spring.

I think the most notable difference between the Distress Oxides and the regular Distress inks is their opaqueness and chalky finish. To me, they feel almost like a cross between Distress Ink and Distress Paint, and I love that unique look. Best thing is, all the techniques we’ve learned for the regular inks can be used on the Oxides, as well.

To put the Oxides through their paces, I experimented with all my favorite techniques here. There’s ink smooshing and ink blending. I stenciled and stamped, and watercolored with the Oxides, too. I even played around to create some Oxide stripes and polka dots… a little funky touch to go along with these Tim Holtz Funky Florals dies.

I’ve got the full step-by-step tutorial up on the Ranger Ink blog, if you’d like to learn more.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! We hit 80 here, and yucky green pollen is coating everything. The carpenter bees are in full swing, too. But today we’re back down to a low in the 40’s. What a crazy spring.

Creativation 2017- Forever with Tim Holtz & Sizzix

Hello Crafty Friends! Happy Monday to you!

We had the most wack-a-do weather here this weekend. After weeks of an unseasonably warm winter and temperatures well into the 70’s, we woke up to snow on the ground yesterday. In March! Snow! That truly is unheard of around here.

Fortunately, the weather didn’t stop me from having some crafty fun with my crafty gang at my jewelry-making party yesterday. I need to take some photos and share with you some of the pieces I’ve been creating. I think I’m hooked on this jewelry thing.. because I need another hobby, right? But for now, I’ll share one of my card creations instead.

This is one of my Creativation CHA cards that I had the honor of creating for Tim Holtz. This card features another fun background made with the new Leafy Texture Fades embossing folder. Really love the organic vibe to this pattern, and a great thing about this folder is that the design looks amazing from either side. This is the raised embossed version in kraft, colored with Distress Crayon. You may remember this card here where I used the de-bossed side with watercolor Distress. Either way, you get super cool results.

Lots of touches of gold in Deco cardstock and Distress Glitter Dust. The new Scroll Bigz die used as leafy greens mixed with the original Wildflowers die set. The patterned paper is from the new Memoranda Paper Stash.

Thanks so much for stopping by, Friends! Hope your week is off to a great start!
