Under Your Spell with Therm O Web & Rabbit Hole Designs

Hello crafty friends, happy weekend! I’m back today to share a second card that I made for our recent Rabbit Hole Designs match up on the Therm O Web blog. You all know how much I love Halloween, and with it less than a week away now, I’m trying to squeeze in as many pumpkins as I can. This time, I’m using an adorable Halloween set called Gourd-geous.

Pumpkin witches? Yes, please! They definitely have me under their spell. These cute pumpkins were colored with Copic markers and then die cut with their coordinating die set. The spider and sentiment are from the same set, too. Once again I used Sweet Mango Glitz Glitter Gel to add some holiday sparkle to the back of the frame.

The frame was made from Therm O Web’s Black Onyx cardstock and a rectangle die from the GinaK Designs collection. The die cut out the inner window opening, and I trimmed the outside edges to size, leaving enough room on two sides to add a decorative scalloped border. The scallops are from Tim Holtz’s Stitched Ovals die set and come in two sizes. I used both for a bit of interest here.

I’ve got the complete step-by-step tutorial up on the Therm O Web blog, if you’d like to learn more.

Sizzix Chapter 1- Cottontail with Tim Holtz

Hi friends! After another small Finley-related hiatus, I’m back with another card project to share. In the blink of an eye, April is here, and of course that means that Easter will be here soon, too. So it’s about time to share this sweet spring-y card that I made for the Tim Holtz Sizzix Chapter 1 release with the adorable new Cottontail rabbit die.

Cottontail is a Bigz die, which means its steel edge can cut through all sorts of thicker materials like the burlap and wool that I used here. Love the texture adding fabric brings in, and it’s quite easy to do. I like to adhere the fabric to a piece of heavyweight cardstock with a liquid adhesive like Ranger multi-medium matte before die cutting. That will give your die cuts lots of strength and durability. And then for a finishing touch, I ran the bunny and bow through my sewing machine.

The background for the card is several layers of inked watercolor cardstock stacked onto a Distress kraft stock cardstock base. I used nested Stitched Oval dies to create the window opening, which was backed onto patterned paper from the Memoranda paper stack. The top layer of the frame was inked in an hombre Distress color palette of pink and brown. And if you look closely, you can see that I stenciled the paper before running it through an embossing folder. Distress glitter adds an extra detail around the edge of the frame.

I used a mixture of Funky Floral dies to add the greenery at the bottom of the frame. The sentiment is from the Crazy Talk stamp set. I made little glitter enamel dots using Glossy Accents to set off the greeting.

Happy April! See you all soon!

Creativation 2019- Wish You Were Here with Ranger Ink

Hello friends, remember me? Sorry for my recent absence. Seems I’ve been taking a very unplanned blog break since bringing home my new little puppy, Finley. I knew a pup would keep me busy, but I had no clue that he would absorb as much of my time as he really does. Everything in the world is new to him, and he wants to explore it all.  He is definitely keeping me on my toes.

All this has left me very little time in the craft room, but I do have several recent projects to share, including this spring flower card that I made for the Ranger Ink booth at Creativation 2019 featuring the new Tim Holtz Wildflower Stems #2 die set and lots of bright and happy colors of Distress.

I used a mixture of stamping and stenciling to create the stacked layered background. The Flurry & Pine background stamp set created the cool chevron style print, and I used the Diamonds Shifter stencil, inked in soft Tattered Rose Distress, on the framework for the flower. The paper behind the oval opening is an old Project Life journaling card that I’ve had in my stash forever. Really love the pop of contrasting color that brought to all the hot pinks.

The flower and greens were die cut from Bristol and Distress cardstocks, and Distress inks were used to watercolor the stem and petals. I used the new Distress Archival Ink in Picked Raspberry to stamp the sentiment. Such a happy color combo, and so perfect for this first day of spring!

Hope you are all doing well! And I hope to be around to visit soon! I’m still not sure how much blogging I will get to in the next several weeks, cause believe it or not…. Finley actually chewed up my eyeglasses. Completely mangled them beyond use or repair. Right now I am stuck in a six-year-old prescription, and needless to say, I’m almost as blind as a bat. Good thing the little stinker is so cute!

Tim Holtz Creativation 2019 Blog Hop

Hello, crafty friends! Thanks so much for stopping by, and welcome to the Tim Holtz Creativation 2019 Blog Hop! Today I am joining in with a group of very talented designers to share a closer look at some of the booth projects that were showcased at Creativation in January featuring all the fabulous new products from the Tim Holtz collection.

I had the great pleasure of creating a few projects for the Tim Holtz Sizzix booth, and today I am excited to share my favorites from the show… a set of travel notebook journals made with the new Tiny Travel Globe die set from the upcoming Chapter 2 Sizzix release.

The Tiny Travel Globes are a continuation of the ever popular miniature snowglobe set that Tim released for the holidays this past year, and yes, these images are truly tiny and amazingly detailed. Each icon measures from about .5″ to 1″ in height, and all the little layered details you see here are individual die cuts. But never fear… all the pieces for each image come together on one die for super easy assembly.

There are the most adorable dimensional plastic domes that work with this set to create very lifelike 3D snow globe designs, but I wanted to show how these die cuts could be used in other ways. Each journal I created combines three or more images from the set into little framed travel scenes, perfect for documenting your favorite vacation sights and memories.

These travel notebooks measure about 3.5 “x 5.5”, and come in a pack of six from Amazon, making them super convenient and inexpensive to create in bulk. To add that aged and distressed appearance we all love so well, I started by adding some Distress ink splatters and Ranger black embossing powder to the edges of the journal before going over the cover with sand paper to scuff it up a bit. Next comes a layer of heavyweight cardstock, splattered and stamped in a really cool chevron-style print from the Flurry & Pine (CMS312) stamp set from Stamper’s Anonymous. I changed up the colors of each of the background to add a bit of variety to the set. Love the sort of primary-school color palette I used of red, yellow, green, and blue Distress ink. The backgrounds were then embellished with big chat stickers, and “held” in place with Idea-ology design tape.

The black frames were made by nesting a Stitched Ovals die in the center of a Stitched Rectangle die. I used the Tonic Studios paper distresser tool up scratch up the edges of the frame, and then added a bit of Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide ink with an ink blending tool. If you look very closely, you may notice some faint images that look like postage marks (Haberdashery CMS105) that I stamped randomly around the frames in Black Soot ink. And for more texture, black embossing powder was dry sprinkled onto the frames and very carefully heat set from the back with my heat tool.

The images for each vignette were all die cut and pieced from sanded Distress Kraft Stock cardstock, and I used additional pieces of the same cardstocks to help build the rest of the scenes. To keep the set uniform, I created sunny blue skies for each setting using Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean Distress inks on watercolor paper, and then layered on the additional detail pieces. Once you get started, it’s really fun to see where your imagination goes.

Each journal is tied closed with twine and fastened in a bow with a Idea-ology Typed Token. To make the tokens look as old as the rest of the journal, I dabbed them with Alcohol inks in Caramel and Rust. White Distress Crayon rubbed into the recesses really helps the lettering stand out. Last detail on each notebook is a destination sentiment strip die cut using the new Alphanumeric Label dies that are also coming out in the upcoming Chapter 2 release.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and enjoy the rest of the hop! But before you go, be sure to leave a comment here, and all along the hop, for your chance to win one of three amazing prize giveaways. Please leave comments before February 9th at midnight PST and 3 winners will be announced on February 10th.

‘Tis the Season with Ranger Ink

Happy Monday, crafty friends, and happy December! Did you all make any headway on your holiday to-do list this weekend? I broke into a few more tubs of decorations, but made very little progress, I’m afraid. You all know me by now….. you know these halls get decked in more than a few boughs of holly…. and these things just can’t be rushed. Or at least that’s what I tell myself when I’m as slow as a snail. Regardless of all that, I do love this time of year. ‘Tis the season to be jolly!

Today I have the great pleasure of sharing this holiday card and project tutorial over on the Ranger Ink blog. These sweet Christmas characters are from the new Cool Yule die set that Tim Holtz released with Sizzix this year. I just adore the personality on these guys, and have such fun dressing them up with all the different accessories in the set.  I used a mix of Distress watercoloring, sparkly deco tape, and bright red cardstock to create my images, and paired them with some fun new products from Ranger’s Letter It line.

Good grief, those guys are cute, aren’t they? Both Santa and Rudolph seem to have hit the eggnog a bit too hard with those bright red noses. I used a white wax pencil to add highlights in the shiny areas, and white embossing powder adds a bit of fluffy texture to all the white hair, fur, and frame pieces. I die cut some extra pompoms from Santa’s hat and cut them in two to create the little hands…. errrr, mittens…. um, hooves?

The oval window frame is from my well-used and well-loved Stitched Ovals die set. The ivory cardstock, stencil, and holiday stamp are all part of the Letter It collection. The bit of Perfect Pearls splatter is, too. I’ve got all the details and step-by-steps up on the Ranger Ink blog, if you’d like to learn more.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Fresh Baked #2 with Tim Holtz & Sizzix

Happy Friday, crafty friends, and thanks so much for stopping by! Is anybody else out there freaking out a little bit that today is the last day of November? As usual, I am already running behind on holiday preparations… and as usual, I wonder how I will get it all done. At least I do have a few holiday cards made.

This little gingerbread scene is the last of the cards that I made for the Tim Holtz 2018 Sizzix Holiday Release videos. These are from the second of the Fresh Baked die sets that Tim released this season. The set includes both gingers here, and a candy cane, tree, and stocking, too. All in the cutest cookie cutter style that you ever have seen.

To mimic the look of real fresh baked cookies, I die cut my gingers from kraft and brown cardstock, and added the details in white and red. Stickles was used to add holiday sparkle to the ric-rack, and then the cookies were coated in Glossy Accents for that frosting shine. The white dots around the gingers and around the oval frame are an extra detail I added by dipping the end of a paintbrush into Picket Fence Distress paint.

I pulled the colors from the cookies for the rest of the design. Kraft and red cardstock , red and brown ink, natural jute twine, red patterned paper from the old Memoranda collection. The sentiment lettering is from the new Cutout Script (3/4″) die set. I love how you can string them together to look like handwritten cursive writing.

I am a bit obsessed with Ranger crackle texture paste, and I added it all around the layers of this card. The frame was made with nested Stitched Oval and Stitched Rectangle dies, which was then embossed with the Simple Snowflakes texture fade. I lightly swiped an embossing ink pad over the raised areas and heat set the snowflakes with white embossing powder. The background of the frame was inked and splattered and stamped with the Stamper’s Anonymous Swirly Snowflakes stamp set in red Distress ink.

I had such fun designing cards for this holiday release. There are so many cute new die sets, and if you haven’t had a chance yet, check out the video below for project ideas on how to use them.

Hope your weekend is off to a great start! Tell me….are you all ready for December?

Be sure to check out these fabulous deals going on at Sizzix! Lots of amazing die sets are on sale this weekend, including some that I’ve used here today. (click on the photo banner below to shop)

Fresh Baked #1 with Tim Holtz & Sizzix

Happy Monday, sweet friends! I’m back today with a festive card share featuring new seasonal products from the 2018 Tim Holtz and Sizzix Holiday release. This is the silly sweet Fresh Baked die set, along with the new Stacked Tags set… a fabulous everyday die set that’s quickly becoming a favorite staple in my crafty stash.

There are two Fresh Baked die sets in the holiday release this year. This is the Fresh Baked #1 die set, which includes a star, heart, mitten, and snowman shape, as well as this cute Santa here. My favorite thing about these sets is that the images all look like iced cookies, ready for the holidays. So cute all on their own, just filling a plate, or great for packages, cards, and quick holiday tags.

Look at all the sweet details on Santa’s face! They are all layering dies that are included in the set. I used kraft cardstock for the base to mimic the look of a real baked cookie, and then mixed white cardstock and sanded Kraft Stock Distress cardstock for the rest of the details. A white gel pen and Glossy Accents adds a highlight and shine to the eyes. And a fuzzy pompom and icy Stickles glitter adds texture and holiday sparkle to the hat and beard.

I absolutely love the new Stacked Tags dies, and as I mentioned above, they have quickly become one of my top go-to everyday sets because they can be used for everything. I die cut two tags and the hole reinforcer, stacked them together as the name implies, and added detail with ink, texture paste, a scalloped border, and Idea-ology die cut ephemera. The holly is an oldie (but a goodie) from the Holiday Greens die set.

The background is a quirky mix of round die shapes from a variety of previously released Alterations sets. Stitched Circles, Gift Tags, and a beautiful lacy doily, too. A fun blend of shabby chic.

Be sure to check out the video below for a full preview of the first half of the Tim Holtz Sizzix 2018 Holiday release, along with lots of fun project ideas featuring the new dies!

Thanks for stopping by! Hope your week is off to a great start!
