Tim Holtz & Sizzix 2021 Chapter 1- Bloom Colorize

Hello, Crafty Friends, and happy Tuesday to you all! Today I am excited to share another one of my makes for the Tim Holtz Sizzix 2021 Chapter 1 Release, shared recently on YouTube Live. This is the beautiful new Bloom Colorize die set along with the new Alphanumeric Bold set, on a 5×7 desk frame.

I am a huge fan of Tim’s Colorize die sets, and was super happy to see florals now included in the line. This set includes a gorgeous stylized flower that reminds me of a rose or a camelia, as well as a branch of buds, berries, and greenery, too. One of my favorite things about this set is that the pieces look great in just about any color, so you’re not roped into a limited color palette or design.

I die cut my botanical pieces mostly from Kraft Stock cardstock, but did mix in layers that were inked with Distress Oxide. I really like the visual textures you get from mixing different mediums, and that’s a great way to add a bit of dimension to an otherwise relatively flat design.

I almost always remove the glass when I alter a frame, and that’s what I did this time, as well as removing the top of the frame in this case, too.  For this project, I stamped and inked a watercolor cardstock background and layered it onto a green cardstock base. The base was then adhered to the back of a cheap thrift-store 5×7 desk frame, and topped with an Idea-ology frame that was painted and inked. I love creating my own frames and decor from my favorite Idea-ology pieces for a truly unique project design.

Here’s my finished frame with my Mr. Rabbit pillow. Definitely makes me ready for spring. How about you?

In the Meadow with Ranger Ink

Happy Fri-Yay, crafty friends! Are you all ready for the weekend? It’s always such a happy day when Friday rolls around again, and what a beautiful day it is, too. I just got bundled into my winter coat and hat and set out to walk the dog, only to quickly find out that it’s actually about 60 degrees today. Obviously I didn’t bother to check before I headed out, and clearly, just like Bernie with his woolly winter mittens, I am prepared for winter.

And even though we’re far from any real snow around here, I do have some frosty friends to share with you today. These snowy tags feature some fun snowman stamps from Tim Holtz and Stamper’s Anonymous and lots of layers of Distress products, from Archival Distress to Distress Oxide to regular Distress Ink. Throw in some Distress Paint and Distress Grit Paste, and finish things off with a bit of Distress Texture Paste, for good measure. Each product brings its own unique qualities to the design, and I love how these simple tags look opaque in some areas and translucent in others, with a great textured tactile finish all over.

I used Tim Holtz Sizzix dies to cut the tags and add the crochet paper trim to the bottom. Simple ribbon ties were added to the top, along with some long-hoarded Idea-ology ice skate trinkets.

I’m very happy to have the full step-by-step tutorial for creating these tags up on the Ranger Ink Project Page, if you’d like to learn more.
Happy weekend, friends! And thanks so much for stopping by!

A Very Merry Christmas with Ranger Ink

Happy Wednesday, crafty friends! It’s another miserable, rainy day here, but I am snuggled up in my blanket as I write this right now, so happy that I can just stay inside. I am really hoping to put the finishing touches on my holiday decorating today. My tree is still bare and the Christmas houses aren’t up. Great tasks for a cold and rainy day.

I am just about done with my holiday cards, though, and that always feels great to scratch off an item from the to-do list. Today I wanted to share one of my favorite cards of this season… A lovely Distress Christmas card, filled with wonderful Tim Holtz stamps, inks, and dies, that I made this week for the Ranger Ink Projects Page.

I adore the large sentiments in the Doodle Greetings stamp sets, and picked out my favorite holiday greeting for this fun card today. The large size of the fonts make them perfect for focal images on card designs, and I love when a card needs only a sentiment and not much else to make it really pop. Great for mass-producing, or for when you’re a bit pressed for time, like around the holidays.

I did some masking on the central panel to leave an opening for the sentiment, and then stamped a design around the edge for a bit of extra interest, and I do really love the framework that creates. There’s lots of inking, of course, with a bit of water coloring mixed in. A pair of pine boughs and a big bow at the bottom finish the design.

As always, I’ve got the complete step-by-step tutorial for this project up on the Ranger Ink website, if you’d like to learn more.

Stay warm and safe and dry today, my friends! And thanks so much for stopping by!

Diecember at Simon Says Stamp

Happy Friday, crafty friends! It’s that holiday time of year when sales and deals are flying everywhere, and today kicks off an exciting promotion at Simon Says Stamp for those of you who love the Tim Holtz brand. Simply purchase any Tim Holtz product, and you will receive an exclusive Diecember gift for FREE….. this beautiful Tim Holtz Feathered Cardinal die set.

This stunning Feathered Cardinal die set is based on the popularity of the Feathered Friends set that Tim released earlier this year. I absolutely adored that set, and am so thrilled to add this cardinal to my collection. If you would like to snag this set, too, head on over quickly to Simon Says Stamp, because this exclusive freebie is only available with the purchase of any Tim Holtz branded products, while supplies last.

Like the Feathered Friends set, this Thinlits set die cuts multiple pieces that you stack and build, and I love how those layers allow you to add dimension and easily use different colors together, like the black section around his beak and eye. For my project, I die cut all the pieces from Distress Watercolor cardstock and then watercolored them with Distress Inks. I glued all the pieces flat together, except for the wing, which was popped up with a bit of foam tape for dimension. And then a dot of Glossy Accents was added to bring out some shine in the eye.

The background was also inked in Distress, and lightly stamped with musical notes. I love how Distress Crackle Texture Paste adds a stucco-like finish to inked surfaces, so I added that to the corners and layered the panel onto Kraft Stock cardstock. A stamped sentiment, a big puffy bow, and die cut Pine Branch accents finish the design.

Be sure to head over to Simon Says Stamp to score your Diecember Feathered Cardinal Thinlits die set before time runs out! I have a feeling these sets are going to go fast!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all an amazing weekend ahead!

Tim Holtz Snarky Cat Framelit Release

Happy Friday, crafty friends! This past weekend held a fun surprise for the Tim Holtz brand, with the release of two Sizzix Thinlits die sets that coordinate with two very popular Tim Holtz stamp sets, Distinguished and Snarky Cat. Earlier in the week I shared the card I made for the reveal using the Distinguished set, and today I am back with Snarky Cat.

I was a huge fan of the quirky characters from Crazy Cats several years ago, so of course these new silly critters from Snarky Cat are right up my alley. I absolutely love their expressions and snarky sentiments. How fun that there are also Halloween and Holiday versions of these cats, too.

It truly is remarkable how closely to the images that these Thinlits dies cut. And if you like dimension on your projects, you’ll love that the set has individual dies to cut out just the heads or just the eyes and nose, allowing you to stack up the pieces like I did with the bottom cat on the right. And how perfect are those milk bottles from Crazy Cats mixed with this set? Goes hand-in-hand with the sentiment here.

I’m still crushing on the new Distress color, Crackling Campfire, so that plays predominantly in the background colors. I did a bit of stenciling and lots of inking, added Distress Texture Crackle Paste to all the corners. The images were stamped in Archival Distress and watercolored with a range of neutral brown and grey Distress inks. Finished off with adding Glossy Accents to noses and eyes.

I’m having a birthday in just a few days, so this card seems very fitting right now. I’m definitely getting up there into the “sniff” category. How quickly time flies!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a very wonderful weekend ahead!

Tim Holtz Facebook Live Thinlits Die Release- Distinguished

Happy Monday, crafty friends! Did you all happen to catch the surprise announcement on Tim’s Facebook Live yesterday afternoon? Sizzix has just released coordinating Thinlits die sets for two very popular Tim Holtz stamp sets, Distinguished and Snarky Cats. These new die sets are available now, but do note that they are a limited edition release. So if you’re like me, and love to have dies to match your favorite stamps, you might want to grab these up before they are sold out and gone forever.

Today I am excited to share a card that I made for the FB Live using the Distinguished stamp set and new coordinating Distinguished Thinlits dies. I absolutely love all the different ways the designers have used these stamps. At first glance, it may seem like this set would only be good for masculine designs, but I have seen it used for so much more, like steampunk or even feminine styles. Since the holiday season is upon us, I created a Christmas card for the reveal, mixing the Distinguished images with the Alphanumeric Shadow Upper dies from the last release.

First of all, can we just talk about the amazing detail on these Thinlits dies? I mean, look at how closely the dies cut to the stamps, leaving no halo of white paper around the edges. And even the smallest areas, like the inside of the umbrella handle and the inside of the shirt collars, are cut cleanly. How awesome is that?

For my card, I layered some Dapper 12×12 patterned paper onto sanded Kraft Stock Blackout cardstock to begin. Followed by a layer of watercolor paper that was inked in shades of green Distress ink and stamped repeatedly with both the text and hanger images from the set. I stamped the background in Distress ink as well, and misted the paper liberally with water afterwards to blend, meld, and smooth the inks and images and colors together.

I die cut the NOEL letters from Blackout and Kraft Stock cardstock, and then used foam dots to pop them onto the card. The Distinguished images were tucked behind, above, and around the lettering. I added some die cut holly greenery to dress up the umbrella and hat. And did you know that Sizzix makes sets of sequins and beads? Who knew, right? I believe Tim calls those “shakedy bits”! I used the Sizzix Festive Sequins set to add a final accent to the design.

As I mentioned at the top of the post, these new Sizzix Thinlits die sets that coordinate with both the Distinguished and Snarky Cats stamp set are a limited edition release. So once they are sold out, they are gone forever. If you’d like to get your hands on these sets, you can find them at Sizzix, Stamper’s Anonymous, Scrapbook.com, and Simon Says Stamp…. and I’ll link you to them below.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!

An Unfortunate Ending with Ranger Ink

Happy Wednesday, crafty friends! I’m back today with a spooky fun Halloween project share that I made for the Ranger Ink blog this week featuring new dies from Tim Holtz and the amazing new Distress Ink color, Crackling Campfire.

This is the Skelly Colorize Thinlits die set from Tim Holtz, and it is by far one of my top favorite sets from the 2020 Sizzix Chapter 3 release. This set has so much incredible detail in all the layers. It really is amazing what can be done these days with dies. I used a mixture of Distress kraft stock cardstock and Distress watercolor cardstock to build my skull, and finished off with lots of Distress ink, crackle texture paste and grit paste for a really grungy, been in the ground a long time, finish.

The 5×5 card base is layers of cardstock and patterned paper. I used ink, spray, and stencils to create the worn background you see, using a combination of my favorite brown and grey Distress inks mixed with the new Crackling Campfire. I absolutely adore how you can get bright orange, like the bouquet flowers I sprayed and coated with Distress glitter, or more rusty orange, like the background… or even the soft pastel orange of the mummy cloth bow…all from one color of ink.

I’ve got the full step-by-step tutorial for this card over on the Ranger Ink Project Page, if you’d like to learn more.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Good Heart with Ranger Ink

Happy Monday, crafty friends! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and that your week is getting off to a great start. Today I’m sharing a mixed media art tag that I made for the Ranger Ink Projects Page featuring the fabulous new color of Distress, Speckled Egg.

To make this tag, I began with two graduated sizes of tag shapes which were inked and sprayed and stenciled, and finally stacked together for lots of great dimension. I think I’ve mentioned being obsessed with creating old-world stucco finishes with Ranger crackle texture paste, and I’ve done that here once again. I really do love that paste. I dab it on thick with my fingertip, and then let it do it’s thing. Some areas get heavily sanded for a plaster-like finish, and some stay as is with lots of great crackle effect.

I added some greenery and  felt “branches” using the new Tim Holtz Festive Stems Bigz die. The Idea-ology paper doll was colored lightly with Distress Oxide inks and then nestled into the greens. Love how they look like they are towering over the children’s heads, like some secret garden gone wild.

The tags were tied with ribbon and trim, and a quick sentiment was added with an Idea-ology quote band, painted and buffed to a polished shine.
If you would like to learn more about this layered Distress tag, you can find all the instructions and a complete step-by-step tutorial over on the Ranger Ink Projects Page.

Christmas Joy with Sizzix & Tim Holtz Chapter 3

Happy Monday, crafty friends! I’m excited to kick off the week with a little holiday card project that I made for the Sizzix blog The Making Journal featuring some fabulous new Tim Holtz dies from the Chapter 3 release. I am a sucker for Santa Claus images, and this guy right here from the Papercut Christmas #1 die set has truly stolen my heart with his retro look. Isn’t he quite the jolly fellow?

I think Santa’s mid-century modern 50’s vibe works perfectly with the geometric shapes of the Triangles Stacked Tiles set. There are so many fun things you can do with simple shapes like these. Right away, I saw Christmas trees, and a banner is always a great idea for triangle shapes, as well.

I used Tiny Type alpha dies to add lettering to the banner, and the older Snowman Scene set to create the snowy border across the bottom of the card. Another new die set from chapter 3, Falling Stars, was used to add a topper to the largest stacked tree. Then layers of Distress Kraft Stock cardstock and Distress stamped watercolor paper finish the design.

I’ve got the complete step-by-step tutorial for this card up on the Sizzix Making Journal Blog, if you’d like to learn more.

An Oct 31 Trick or Treater with Sizzix

Happy Wednesday, crafty friends! You all know that my favorite time of year is here when it’s time for fall and Halloween makes! Today I’m super excited to share my first Halloween project of the season… an October 31 Trick or Treater card that I made for the Sizzix blog featuring new dies from the Tim Holtz Chapter 3 release.

This little guy is seriously too cute to spook, though, isn’t he? He is from the fabulous Trick or Treater Thinlits set, definitely one of my top faves from the Halloween release. I’ve mixed Trick or Treater together with the new spider web and the alphanumeric shadow numbers sets, also from the Chapter 3 release, on this fun design.

I made this card  taller and skinnier than a standard A2 size for something a little bit different, and created a simple stamped background layered on cardstock for the card base. The new spider webs have such amazing detail. I added one at top and one at bottom to really extend the length of the design.

I’m definitely ready for a break in this heat, buy boy does it feel crazy that summer is starting to slip right by. Both of my kiddos are back at school, though, so I know it’s true.
Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful day!
