Thank You Mini Notes with Sizzix

AudreyPettit Sizzix EnvelopeThanksNotecard
One of my most-needed card supplies is simple thank you cards, and yet I rarely seem to have one on-hand.  This year, I’ve vowed to create a stash of thank you notes that are both quick and easy to make in bulk and are pretty, too. I love this simple design that I’ve come up with. I am crushing big time on pink these days, and love it mixed with the trendy look of gold.

So today I am playing with some scraps. And making some much-needed thank-you notes for a quick and easy tutorial on the Sizzix blog.

AudreyPettit Sizzix EnvelopeThanksNotecard3
I have so many pretty papers left over from the Crop & Create: Delivered Kit- Blossoms & Breezes, and I’ve vowed to use those up, too. Love how the woodgrain looks with the soft pink and gold… and that printed vellum is amazing. Makes a fabulous liner for the new Envelope Movers & Shapers die by Tim Holtz. Another new favorite of mine from the winter release.

I am so excited to see Sizzix adding more stamps to their line-up of products. With ten different sentiment stamps to choose from in Stephanie Barnard’s adorable Thanks clear stamp set, I’ve now got plenty of ways to share my gratitude.

I’ve got a full step-by-step tutorial for making these quick and easy notecards on the Sizzix blog, if you’d like to learn more. Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful day!

Sizzix Tutorial- Friends Always Art Tag

AudreyPettit Sizzix FriendsAlwaysTag
Hello, hello friends, and happy Friday to you! Today I am excited to share a Sizzix tutorial with you for this fun art tag, made with the gorgeous Butterfly Duo die and Dot Matrix embossing folder by Tim Holtz. This tag features pretty Distress Inks with a very cool linen-texture technique, a bit of simple painting, and lots of shabby crackle glaze, too. I really love how it turned out, and I hope you do, too.

AudreyPettit Sizzix FriendsAlwaysTag2
Isn’t the background texture on this tag amazing? This linen look is something I first saw on my sweet friend, Tammy Tutterow’s blog, and I’ve been anxious to try it ever since. It’s a super easy technique, and really lots of fun to do. And I’m smitten with the new Butterfly Duo die. The texture that results from the matching embossing folder really can’t be beat. I love the whole shabby look of this. Let’s take a closer look.

AudreyPettit Sizzix FriendsAlwaysTag Tut1
Working on a Ranger #8 manila tag, swipe Picket Fence Distress Paint repeatedly across the tag from bottom to top, using straight lines only. Allow the tag to dry, or use a heat tool to speed up the process. Then swipe the paint repeatedly across the tag from side to side, once again using only straight lines. Dry tag with a heat tool. Repeat both steps a second time, drying the tag between each step.

AudreyPettit Sizzix FriendsAlwaysTag Tut2
Randomly dab a mixture of Distress Inks onto a non-stick craft sheet. I used Salty Ocean, Tumbled Glass, Evergreen Bough, and Mustard Seed. Spritz the inks liberally with water until beads of ink form.

AudreyPettit Sizzix FriendsAlwaysTag Tut3
Swipe the front of the tag through the ink mixture, making sure to cover the entire tag. Dry the tag with a heat tool. You can repeat this process to darken the color, if you wish.

AudreyPettit Sizzix FriendsAlwaysTag Tut4
Place the bottom portion of the tag into the Sizzix Tim Holtz Dot Matrix Texture Plate Embossing Folder.

AudreyPettit Sizzix FriendsAlwaysTag Tut5
Then run the tag through your Big Shot die cutting machine using the extended platform open to tab 1, and this Sizzix embossing sandwich: Extended Multipurpose Platform, Standard Cutting Pad, embossing folder, Standard Cutting Pad.

AudreyPettit Sizzix FriendsAlwaysTag Tut6
Using an ink blending tool, apply additional Distress Inks to the tag. I added a bit of Mustard Seed to a few areas on the top of the tag to bring out more of the yellow, and added Mowed Lawn and Peeled Paint to the bottom embossed portion only.

AudreyPettit Sizzix FriendsAlwaysTag Tut7
Using a distressing tool, scuff up the edges of the tag. Then apply Frayed Burlap Distress Ink using an ink blending tool.

AudreyPettit Sizzix FriendsAlwaysTag Tut8
Add a heavy coat of Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint to the embossed portion of the tag.

AudreyPettit Sizzix FriendsAlwaysTag Tut9
And immediately scrape off the excess crackle paint using a scraper or scrap piece of cardboard or chipboard. This will remove most of the crackle finish from the top of the embossed area, while leaving it in the recessed portions. Allow the crackle paint to dry completely. Once the crackle lines begin to appear, you can finish the process with a heat tool, if you wish.

AudreyPettit Sizzix FriendsAlwaysTag Tut10
Now add details to the finished tag, like patterned paper strips, chit chat word stickers, and vintage ephemera. Machine stitch around the word stickers and bottom edge of the patterned paper. Add Tiny Attacher staples to some of the ephemera pieces. Use pop dots to elevate a round ephemera label.

AudreyPettit Sizzix FriendsAlwaysTag Tut11
Using the new Butterfly Duo Die, die cut one butterfly from manila cardstock. Then place the butterfly into the matching texture fade embossing folder, and emboss using the same steps as outlined above.

AudreyPettit Sizzix FriendsAlwaysTag Tut12
Fill in the recessed portions of the butterfly with Picket Fence Distress Paint using a fine tipped paintbrush and allow to dry.

AudreyPettit Sizzix FriendsAlwaysTag Tut13
Dab yellow Distress Inks onto a non-stick craft mat. I used a combination of Scattered Straw and Mustard Seed. Mist the inks liberally with water. Then drag the butterfly die cut through the ink mixture and dry with a heat tool.

Cut about 1.5′ of crinkle ribbon and sop up any remaining ink from the craft sheet with the ribbon. Dry the ribbon and set it aside.

AudreyPettit Sizzix FriendsAlwaysTag3
Tie the crinkle ribbon around the bottom of the tag, looping the extra length into a sloppy figure eight. Secure the sides of the ribbon with a tiny staple.

Coat the butterfly with Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint and allow to dry. Embellish the butterfly with twine antennae and candy dots. Adhere the butterfly to the round label section using pop dots. The crackle paint will naturally curl the butterfly wings for even extra dimension. Love that little added bonus. And I think having that small bit of crackle at the bottom of the tag really pulls it all together.

AudreyPettit Sizzix FriendsAlwaysTag4
Here’s a close up shot of that fabulous linen background. It’s so soft and subtle, yet adds a lot of charm and character, doesn’t it? Can’t wait to try it all again.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! We got that extra layer of snowfall last night, so I believe we are in for the weekend.

Sizzix Tutorial- Hexagon Love Box

AudreyPettit Sizzix HexagonLoveBox
Hello, hello! I’m back today with a fun Sizzix project and tutorial to share with you for creating this hexagon-shaped gift treat box from Jen Long’s popular Where Women Cook collection.

AudreyPettit Sizzix HexagonLoveBox2
I am a sucker for cute packaging ideas, and this Hexagon Box Bigz Die has quickly become a new favorite. Love the unusual shape, and at about 4 inches in diameter, this little cutie is perfect for boxing up any number of small treats or gifts.

AudreyPettit Sizzix HexagonLoveBox4

I’ve dressed my box up for Valentine’s Day, and filled it with sweets for my little sweetie. But change out the papers and theme and you’ve got a great box for any occasion. It’s so easy. Let’s take a closer look.

AudreyPettit Sizzix HexagonLoveBoxTut1
The Hexagon Box die is a Bigz L die, which means it can be cut from a variety of materials, but for my project, I used patterned paper from BasicGrey’s Vivienne collection. To die cut with Bigz dies, use this standard Sizzix die cutting sandwich: Standard Cutting Pad, Bigz die (facing up), paper or material to be cut, second Standard Cutting Pad.

AudreyPettit Sizzix HexagonLoveBoxTut2
Die cut the hexagon box two times, once for the lid and once for the bottom. Lay the two pieces face down onto your work table. You will notice that the box pattern has two flaps on opposite sides that do not have the rounded tabs at the top. Adhere the smaller flap from one pattern onto the larger flap (the one with the side flaps) of the other.

AudreyPettit Sizzix HexagonLoveBoxTut3
Then fold  all the remaining flaps upwards, and press the rounded top tabs down.

AudreyPettit Sizzix HexagonLoveBoxTut4
Flip one of the box patterns over on top of the other and insert the rounded tabs into the corresponding slits. For a fun variety, I alternated my pieces so that I had both the yellow and the pink patterns showing.

AudreyPettit Sizzix HexagonLoveBoxTut5
Now you can embellish the outside of your box any way you wish. I tied my box shut with some pretty vintage pink seam binding ribbon, topped with a few additional die cuts. First, a large scalloped circle die cut from floral paper using the Circles, Scallops Framelits Die Set. To die cut using Framelits or Thinlits dies, use this Sizzix die cutting sandwich: Magnetic Platform, Standard Cutting Pad, Paper, Die (facing down), second Standard Cutting Pad.

AudreyPettit Sizzix HexagonLoveBoxTut6
Repeat the process to die cut a fancy label from Tim Holtz’ 17-pc Labels Thinlits Set. Adhere the label to the center of the scalloped circle.

AudreyPettit Sizzix HexagonLoveBoxTut7
To create the topper, die cut 5 of the largest heart shapes from a mixture of patterned paper using the new Heartfelt Bigz Die. Stack the hearts on top of each other, then machine stitch down the center of the hearts. Lightly bend up the sides of each heart layer until you have a bit of space between each one. Add the hearts to the center of the label shape. Finish off with a diction word sticker and a pretty Vivienne resin rose.
