Summertime with Photo Play Paper

Happy Monday, sweet friends! Hope you all have had a wonderful week since I last checked in, and that those of you in the states had a fabulous and fun-filled 4th of July holiday!

It’s been a very quiet, but productive week, here at my house. I think I’m still trying to adjust to the quiet of North Carolina living after my lovely three week visit with family out in California. But fortunately, there’s been lots to do in my craft studio. And the time, as always, just seems to slip by. Next week, the mid-year Mixed Media Event (formerly produced by Sierra Pacific Crafts (SPC) will take place in Salt Lake City. And that has kept me a busy, busy little bee, creating projects for the show using Photo Play Paper’s newest upcoming collections. It’s been Christmas in July in my studio…. and Halloween, too. Lots of favorites that I look forward to sharing with you soon.

Now that trade show projects are slowing down, I had a chance to re-connect with my other love, fabric, this weekend…. and have started on a batch of sweet, shabby pumpkin folk for my fall shop openings. I’m super excited that the Rusty Bucket has requested some of my prims for their fall open house again this year. Must get to work, because it will be here before we know it. Inside my little world, it’s autumn already. But all that must wait. For right now it’s time to celebrate summer, and I have lots of fun to share with you. In between paper and fabric crafts, I’ve managed to break out my Americana summer decor, which I’ll share next time. And today, I have a summer-inspired card to share made with Photo Play’s adorable Summer Bucket List collection.

This little cutie captures some of my favorite summertime memories from when my kids were little. Playing games, camping under the stars, and toasting some marshmallows over an open fire, mixed with bright and happy colors and a touch of rustic woodgrain, that I adore.

Hope you’re making lots of fun summer memories this season, too!
Thanks so much for stopping by! See you all soon!

Proud To Be with Therm O Web

Hello, Friends! Happy Friday!

This week, vendors, artists, and crafters gathered in Salt Lake City for the third annual Sierra Pacific Crafts Mixed Media Show. And this year, for the first time, Therm O Web attended, showing off the latest addition to the Deco Foil line up….. Watercolor Deco Foils. And our new Mixed Media Sheets, too.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb ProudToBeCanvasSo of course this show is all about mixed media, and since America just celebrated its independence day, I combined the two to make a patriotic altered canvas, perfect for adding a touch of Americana to my home decor for the summer.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb ProudToBeCanvas3True to mixed media style, this 8×8 canvas is filled with layers. The background started with patterned paper, followed by layers of paint, stain, markers, and modeling paste. I used a Tim Holtz star layering stencil to create a subtle texture, and then added shiny bright detail with the new watercolor foils.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb ProudToBeCanvas4If you look closely at the foiled areas, you can see the variation in color to the new watercolor foils. The Amber foil, used on the sparklers, has a beautiful metallic shine in a gold, silver, and copper watercolor wash. The Lapis foil, used to accent the firecrackers and the background, ranges  from shades of blue into metallic silver.

My funky junk firecrackers were free-hand cut and doodled. Those poor things have been sanded, torn, inked, painted, and stained, for an aged feel. Think I may have nailed that part!  I added rope wicks that I actually set on fire, for a bit of lifelike char. All in the name of art. Haha 😉

AudreyPettit Thermoweb ProudToBeCanvas2The papers are oldies, but goodies. The Freedom collection from Authentique. I pieced several prints for the firecrackers. And cut the sentiment from the papers, too.

I’ve got a full step-by-step tutorial up on the Therm O Web blog, if you’d like to learn more.

And here’s a peek at our 5 New Watercolor Deco Foil Transfer Sheets. From left to right: Amber, Emerald, Amethyst, Lapis and Summer Rainbow (coming soon!)

Simple Pleasures

Not too long ago, Authentique sent me a few fun items to alter for a special trade show event they were doing with Sierra Pacific Crafts. SPC makes all sorts of very unique wooden items like frames, wall hangings, and notebooks. I was given a matching pair of little stands to alter. I’ve shared my patriotic Pride stand already. If you missed it, you can check it out here. And today, I get to share the second altered stand, this time a fun summery concoction dressed up with Authentique’s Seasons Summer collection.

AudreyPettit_SPC_Summer_HeatWaveStand

These little stands are actually quite small, standing at only 3-4″ high, so once again I created a little extra height here. Inked wooden skewers attached to the side are an easy way to extend your project, and are a fun excuse to add a bit of twine and some banner flags. For some reason, this reminds me of a lifeguard stand at the beach, and that totally makes me smile. Perhaps I just have beach on the brain! 😉

Painted the base of the stand and covered the front and back sides with papers from the 6×6 Paper Bundle. The journaling card and sentiment banners are all cut from the Enhancements Sheet. I added a tab sticker and pretty trim and a couple of vintage buttons from my stash.

The sun was free cut from yellow 6×6 paper and then embossed with clear embossing powder and a distressed dots background stamp. Added it to my stand on pop dots for a bit of extra depth and dimension.

My two kiddos are going to the beach next week, the lucky ducks. I think that’s as close as I’m going to get this summer……

But a girl can dream!

Have you guys seen? Authentique has just released the first peek at their new Christmas collection Joyous! This is a full-line release and just one of five new collections being released at CHA next week. There’s lots and lots of details and photos on the blog, if you’d like to see more!

Patriotic Wrap-Up with Authentique

The 4th of July holiday may now be officially over, but hopefully the memories you made with your family and friends will last a lifetime. Perhaps you’ve now got tons of photos to scrapbook, or maybe project life pages to create?  Or if you’re like me, you may be thinking about all the home decor projects you wanted to make, but didn’t get around to. Well whatever your holiday needs, Authentique is here to inspire with a fabulous wrap-up of patriotic projects featuring our summer Americana collection, Pride.

AudreyPettit_SPC_Pride_AmericaPlaque6

I have one last holiday project to share with you. Made this little guy for a special event that Authentique recently attended with Sierra Pacific Crafts, the makers of all sorts of fun alterable wooden surfaces.

AudreyPettit_SPC_Pride_AmericaPlaque4

SPC makes a wide variety of alterable products, including frames, notebooks, journals, and wall hangings. I used one of their small wooden stands to create a fun home decor piece for my holiday decorating.

AudreyPettit_SPC_Pride_AmericaPlaque5

The stand is nice and small, which means I can easily tuck this into any little nook or cranny. I did give the project a little additional height with some memo pins. Talk about an easy way to include a few extra embellishments. I figured I could easily remove the stickers and add a photo or two later, if I wish.

AudreyPettit_SPC_Pride_AmericaPlaque3

Then I just went to town adding goodies to the front. Pride has sooo many cute papers and embellishments, the only hard part is choosing which ones to use.
