Countdown to Christmas- Day 7

Hi everyone!  Here we are one full week into December already, and if you’re anything like me, then the holiday preparations are in full swing at your house.  My latest push has been to get some of the shopping done, which always seems like the biggest project on my list.  Went out this morning briefly, and you can definitely tell it’s Christmas by the size of the crowds in the parking lots and stores.  I still have quite a bit more to do, but each day I am slowly checking a few items off. 🙂

I am also slowly pulling out all my Christmas decorations and getting my house all ready for the holiday.  This year, I’ve gone with a silver and white theme for my dining room table.

Lots of glass and shiny silver pretties.  Love all that sparkle at the holidays.  I added a bed of fresh greenery from my tree clippings in place of a table linen.  The stars are a garland I made for Webster’s Pages last year using their older holiday lines and shimmer papers.

I cut three sizes of stars from templates I downloaded from the internet and sewed them onto felt backings, leaving an opening to insert polyfill fiber before sewing closed.  Edged the shimmer stars with pearl trim and added a beaded berry cluster and ribbon tie to each.

I also made a bunch of these stars as individual ornaments for my tree.  Every year I try to add a homemade ornament to my collection.

And speaking of ornaments, here is one I made this year.

Papers and rub-ons are Making Memories and Webster’s Pages.  Cut a tree from the MM paper and popped it on the edge with a few added mini gems for some shine.  Edged the Santa image with silver tinsel stem and added a silver bow and a couple of bells.

Thanks so much for stopping by for my countdown to Christmas!  Hope to see you all again tomorrow!

The 12 Days of Christmas Crop- Day 6

Evening everyone!  I hope by now you have all had a chance to check out the fabulous and fun crop going on over at Webster’s Pages’ inspireME site. 12 days of great projects and inspiration to jump start the holidays.  Today’s project makes a wonderful holiday gift idea, or a fantastic everyday project, too.  Here is a peek of design team member, Jaz’s acrylic mini album.

I absolutely adore how she did her cover.  You all NEED to check it out!  Here is the link to see the complete instruction to today’s project.

I am up tomorrow with my special project.  So excited to share it with you.  I’ll also be hosting a live chat at the inspireME site tomorrow at 5 pm EST.  I hope to see you all there!

I’ve been busy lately creating a few things for my Etsy site.  Here’s a fun altered project I’ve been working on.

I found this wooden reindeer cut out at my local craft store.  It measures approximately 11″ x 12″.  Covered it with some cheery BoBunny holiday paper.  I added reins using blue pompom trim from Webster’s Pages and then added a poinsettia die-cut from K&Co. for the “saddle”.  To give the poinsettia a bit of strength and stability, I layered it on some chipboard first.

Lastly I added a multi-layered bow at the neckline using several ribbons and tulle.  Added a K&Co. rub-on directly to the sheer ribbon.  Also added a piece of a holiday pick, a blue snowflake eyelet with gemstone center, and some baker’s twine.

This guy was so much fun to make.  I’ve really been loving the altered projects lately.  Be sure to stop by tomorrow to seek some peeks of the altered project I did for the Webster’s crop. 😉

Have a great evening everyone!  Thanks for stopping by!

12 Days of Christmas Crop- Day 5

Hi everyone!  It’s been another beautiful day here in NC today.  Sunshine and temps into the mid 70’s.  I spent the day with my good friend, shopping in quaint little downtown Wake Forest.  What cute shops there were to stroll through.  One of my favorites was an old fashioned tea house where we even saw a group of ladies in fancy hats.  How fun is that?  I sure wish we could bottle days like these.

The 12 Days of Christmas crop continues at Webster’s Pages with design team member Dena Coe’s holiday layout.  Here is a little peek.

Take a gander at that fun tinsel trim Webster’s has just come out with!  And if you want to see Dena’s full project, along with all the crop information, please go here.

And for a scrappy project from me, I have my card for the current sketch at the Sketch This blog to share.  I’m working on my holiday cards.

Dug into my stash for this older KI paper.  Paired that with some Little Yellow Bicycle 25 Days of Christmas chipboard pieces, some trim from Melissa Frances, and a rub-on greeting from Deja Views.

I rubbed the greeting directly onto the trim and threaded some smaller satin ribbon through the lace, as well.

Layered the chipboard snowflakes over a button which is over a circle of pink Heidi Swapp bling.  Added a gemstone eye to the reindeer, too.

Here is the sketch for you.  It’s the last sketch of the year, so I do hope you’ll all have a chance to play along.

Thanks for stopping by everyone!

Peace Deer

Hey everyone!  What a beautiful Fall day it is here in NC.  The weather is just perfect, and to top off the day, I received the new Webster’s Pages trims and embellishments today.  I have been so excited about getting my hands on these little beauties, and they are every bit as fabulous and unique as I was expecting.  Haven’t had a chance to play with them yet, but I have to share anyway. 😉

Nature's silhouettesParis Silhouettes

These are the new Silhouettes.  They come in sets of 5 and are self-adhesive.  These truly are amazingly detailed cameo pieces.  I loved them so much I had to get two of each set!

I will share some of the other new goodies next time.  And as always, you can check out all the Webster’s Pages products here.

In other Webster’s news, don’t forget that there is just one day left to get your entries in for the September calendar challenge.  It’s not too late.  You can do it!  For more details, go here.

And lastly, today was my day to post on the Webster’s Pages Facebook page.  I posted this fun and simple holiday wall hanging.

Peace Deer Wall Hanging

The project began as an unfinished wooden hanging I found at Michael’s.  I painted and glittered the “peace” bottom part.   The deer piece I covered in both the front and back sides of the Snow Tips patterned paper from the Winter’s Wings Collection.  I then edged the hanging with a brown marker, and added a big bow.  The bow is layered with several ribbons, a sprig of holiday berries, an acrylic snowflake, a felt snowflake, and a pair of silver bells.

Thanks so much for stopping by everyone!  Hope you are having a beautiful day, too!

Christmas Trio

Hi everyone!  Only 3 days until Christmas!  I am happy to say that I am almost ready.  Almost.  How about you?  I was out both days of the weekend trying to finish up all that last minute shopping, and I’m still rather surprised at how small the crowds were.  I figured the last weekend before Christmas would be completely insane shopping, but it seemed no worse, really, than usual.  Thinking that it’s proof of how badly the economy is suffering this year.

I was also able to finish up my wrapping last night.  Think I have just one more small thing I would like to pick up, and then I should be done.  On the other hand, I am still making and mailing my Christmas cards.  I just have not been very on the ball about cards this year.  But, it could be worse, right? 😉

I did manage to make a few cards at our Paper-Playground crop on Saturday, however.   Did not get much else done, with all the blabbing I tend to do, but at least I accomplished something.

Can you believe I am still making cards from the December Paper-Playground kit?  I keep surprising myself with how much I’ve been able to do with this one kit.  I have already made 11 cards and pages with this kit, plus a few sets of gift tags, and yet I was able to get 3 more cards made from my scraps.  What a wonderful feeling.

I supplemented my kit scraps with just a few extra goodies from my stash, including some of my favorite holiday rub-ons from Webster’s Pages, a bit of ribbon and twine, and a couple of silk leaves.

This card uses both the LYB Christmas Magic paper and the MM Paperie paper, along with a MM flocked brad, our May Arts ribbon, and a vellum Swell Noel ornament from K&Co.  I simply added a Webster’s rub-on greeting and a simple twine bow.

This one uses my last LYB die-cut photo mat folded in half to make the card base.  I cut a star from the kit cardstock and added a strip of striped Christmas Magic paper and one of my remaining May Arts reindeer.  Finished this off with my favorite Webster’s Santa rub-on, along with a greeting, a silk leaf and another twine bow.

My third card uses more of my Christmas Magic scraps along with my final Bazzill chipboard snowflake, which I painted white, my second to last May Arts reindeer, and our Kaiser snow pearls.  I layered another of the K&Co. Swell Noel vellum pieces over the center of the chipboard snowflake for a subtle touch of detail.  From my stash, I added a bit of green ribbon, another silk leaf and a twine bow. Not bad for a bunch of scraps, huh?

And I might not be done with that kit yet! 😉

Have a great day everyone!

Back To School

Yes, that’s right.  The kids went back to school today.  We are on a year round school system and just finished up our second track-out of the year.  It was a wonderful break, and oh,so hard to go back this morning.  The day started out really rocky, too.  I remembered to set the alarm last night, and even made sure it was set for the correct wake up time.  What I didn’t do, however, was make sure the radio station and volume were set.  Guess the clock had gotten bumped, cause the station had been turned into static and the volume was almost non-existent.  Slept right through that baby.  Got Peter to school on time, but of course he missed the bus and I had to drive him in.  Sigh.

I have been able to accomplish quite a bit today, however, with the kids back in school.  Went and got my car inspected and went to the post office.  Baked a pumpkin cake, too, from a recipe I got from my scrappy friend, Krista.  I haven’t tasted it yet, but it smells heavenly.  The recipe is on her blog if you want to check it out.

Krista has also tagged me for a Christmas version of the tagging game that’s been going around.  The rules are to state 7 random Christmas things about yourself.  So here goes!

1.  Even though I’m not a huge fan of Christmas music, I have been listening to quite a bit of it.  Found a station on my dish network that’s playing them non-stop, and I’ve been tuning in almost every day.
2.  My favorite Christmas music is instrumentals.
3.  I have been collecting one ornament each year for each of my kids since they were born.  This way, when they move out, they will have a bunch of ornaments to take with them.
4.  I try to make a homemade ornament every year.  Haven’t made mine yet this year, but I have made a Christmas garland.
5.  I have been collecting Christopher Radko ornaments for about 8 years.  They are my absolute favorite.
6.  My mom makes the best Christmas cookies I have ever tasted.  the recipe has sour cream in it.  Have you ever heard of that before?
7.  I have a large collection of hand-painted wooden elf ornaments from Sweden.  They make me smile, plus they are a heritage thing for me.

So there ya go!  Total Christmas randomness!   Thanks for thinking of me, Krista!

I also have another December kit project to share with you.  Are you guys getting tired of this kit yet?  I made SO many things with it.  They just keep coming and coming.  Today’s page is of my Christmas table last year.  It was the first year that I really tried to put together a festive table for the holidays.  I see how it could be much improved, but I was working with what I had.

My photos were really fairly small, so I was able to place all three of them on just one of the Little Yellow Bicycle photo mats.

The patterned paper and die-cut snowflakes are Christmas Magic by Little Yellow Bicycle.  Alphabet by American Crafts.  Wood flourish and snow pearls by Kaisercraft and reindeer by May Arts.

Thanks for stopping by and visiting.  Be sure and say Hi!

Christmas Miracle

Morning everyone!  I have to start off this post by sharing the Christmas miracle that happened at our house last night.  You will never believe it!  Look!

You might not recognize the phenomenon you are looking at.  That is my son.  Peter.  Off the computer.  Actually hanging an ornament on the tree.  A true miracle, indeed.

Never mind that I had to actually bribe him to do it.  I’m thinking that in years to come, when I’m old and my memory is shot even worse than it is now, I’ll truly believe he did this of his own accord.  I can just scrap this photo and think back blissfully to this time….and totally ignore these other photos I got from Mr. Attitude right after that first one.

Sigh……..boys……….teenagers………….teenage boys…………’nuff said.

I also have a couple of scrappy projects to share this morning.  You guessed it….more goodies from the December Paper-Playground kit.  This first project is super simple, quick and easy.  I wanted to come up with a pretty, yet time-saving idea to brighten up the holidays.

These gift tags were a snap to make.  If anyone is interested in the directions, I have a tutorial up in the Paper-Playground classroom here.

I also have one more card to share.

This card was another quick and easy project.  I simply folded one of the Little Yellow Bicycle photo mats in half for the base to this cute card.  I also added a touch of ink to the holly leaves of the Kaisercraft wooden flourish.  Viola!

Have a great day everyone!

Being Sneaky

Hi everyone!  It has turned gray and rainy and cold this weekend.  Perfect weather for cuddling up next to the fire.  And perfect weather for getting into the Christmas spirit.  I went and got my tree yesterday and am now in the process of getting all the lights up.  I will have that finished by this evening so that the kiddos can start decorating.  I’m excited to see all my favorite ornaments and decorations come out.  So many memories with each one.  Nik loves it as much as I do, but I have to admit that I have a hard time getting Peter into it all anymore.  Oh, he likes to look at it, but he’s not much into the “work”.  Typical teenage boy!  So what about you all?  Have you started putting up your trees yet?

I am also really excited that tomorrow is the 1st, which means the full reveal of the December Paper-Playground kit will be up on the website.  Always love the first of the month, and I get so jazzed up to share with you all these beautiful kits.  I have been playing with this kit again this weekend, and have used up just about every piece in it already.  So, I will have lots of scrappy projects to show starting tomorrow.  But in the mean time, how about a few more sneak peeks?

Can’t wait to show you the rest!  Hope you’ll stop by tomorrow and check out the full reveal!

See you then!
