Miss Sunflower Bunny at AudOnes Prims

Hello Sweet Friends! Happy Wednesday!

I hope you are all having a good week! It’s been a very nice one so far here at our house, I must say. Just one more day until my Missy Nik turns 19, (which seriously, I have such a hard time believing) and we are making the most out of it with some special fun…. a day trip out to our favorite local lake, eating out, and yesterday we went to see Beauty and the Beast. Which truly was just amazing. I don’t often get to spend so much time with her these days, and soon she is heading off to college. So you know this old mom is on cloud 9 right now.

Speaking of beasts, I have a new very prim and very sweet one to share with you today. This is Miss Sunflower. She’s been keeping me quite busy over the last several days, but she was worth it. I really love how she turned out with that shabby little dress and pinny, made from some favorite prints in gingham and calico. And look at her flowers! She’s quite the gardener, isn’t she?

I have a small stash of real vintage millinery flowers that I absolutely treasure and adore, and thought this sweet yellow velvet combo was the perfect finishing touch for Miss Sunflower’s old tin watering can. She does make me smile. Hope she does you, too!

Miss Sunflower Bunny has just been listed in my AudOnes Prims shop, in case you are interested in taking her home!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a very wonderful day!

A Grateful Heart with Tim Holtz Eclectic Elements

Hi Sweet Crafty Friends!

It is with a very grateful heart that I sit down to write this post today. Grateful that my colonoscopy is now OVER. Grateful that the results were negative and that I don’t have to do that again for another ten years. But mostly, SO grateful for all of your sweet comments and concern!

Sharing one of my shabby sweet sewing projects today. A very grateful heart, made with my latest crafty obsession, Tim Holtz Eclectic Elements fabric.

You may remember some similar vintage hearts that I made recently for my shop, right? This little cutie is made from all of the leftovers from that project. A little pile of crafty goodness that I couldn’t force myself to throw away. Just random shapes and sizes, curved edges and straight. All too pretty to go in the trash. Maybe it’s just me. But I cannot bare to let a single thread of this beautiful fabric go to waste. The solution? A bit of shabby patchwork, wonky style.

I really love how this turned out, with a bit of an overlap here, a bit of a bare patch there. Imperfect and shabby…. just how I like it. Topped with a few of my treasured vintage pearl buttons and velvet millinery pieces. And a hand-stamped banner flag, too.

Thanks so much for stopping by! And thank you all for your well-wishes! I am truly grateful for all of YOU!

In Like a Lamb

Hello Sweet Friends! Happy Wednesday, and happy first day of March!

p1130285
We are expected to hit a high of 83 degrees today. I know I mentioned this the other day, but really, this is unseasonably warm weather for this time of year. I think that old phrase, March comes in like a lion, falls way short of the mark. Looks like March is coming in like a lamb, and probably will leave like one, too… or perhaps some even gentler animal, like a baby chick or a baby harp seal.

p1130288
My poor winter snowmen have been quite out-of-place these past couple of weeks. We’ve been trying to hold on, waiting for winter to make an appearance, but I’ve finally given up. So my frosty friends are now making their way into storage, and a few shamrocks are coming out instead.

p1130286
While I tend to go overboard for many of the holidays, I don’t do much for St. Patrick’s Day. When Easter is early, I usually skip it completely. But Easter is later this year, and that gives me an excuse to break out a few lucky charms.

p1130287
As a hunter and gatherer, I have managed to collect enough “schtuff” over the years for a few small scenes. Anything with a bit of green will do. Vintage transferware dishes. An old trusty rusty watering can. A few precious Majolica plates. And of course some of my own funky junk handmade pieces. I gotta have a few of those.

p1130282
Over time, I’ve managed to amass quite the collection of handmade bits. Clovers from paper bags. Clovers from foil. Water-colored clovers. Shabby hand-painted clovers from fabric. And of course, a pair of leprechaun monster dolls (made by my Missy Nik and me), too.

p1130283
I think the older I get, the more I appreciate the sentimentality of homemade. So you know how that goes….

p1130281
A little bit of decorating leads to a little bit of crafting, for more things with which to do a little more decorating!

p1130289
My poor basket looked a little bare, so I figured a few more shamrocks were in order. Prim shabby shamrocks made from my latest crafty love, Tim Holtz Eclectic Elements fabric.

I used some adorable Ledger fabric from the Wallflower collection for the backing, creating a bit of messy patchwork from torn and stitched strips of fabric. I really love the worn collage look that brings. The shamrocks have been pieced from fabric hand-tinted with Distress Inks, and topped with my favorite twine and vintage pearl buttons.

I made a few for me, and there’s some for you, too, if you’re interested. Just listed in my AudOnes Prims Shop.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Sending warm breezes your way!

A Frosty Friend with Therm O Web

Happy Friday, Crafty Friends!

My scrappy group has a fun annual holiday tradition. Every December we get together and do a big potluck brunch, and everyone brings a handmade gift to exchange. Oftentimes we just draw numbers to see who gets what package. But this year, we did one of those snatch and steal games where everyone gets one chance to take someone’s gift. That simple act brought a whole new element into the game, I tell you what. I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time.

audreypettit-thermoweb-frostybellssnowman
Of course this party was the perfect excuse to craft up one of my favorite fabric prim creations. This is the little friend that I made… a wee frosty snowman, all dressed up for Christmas.

audreypettit-thermoweb-frostybellssnowman3
Recently I scored some vintage Jello molds at my local junk store, and I thought they would be a great container for my little guy. Love that he can now stand upright without toppling over, and it was just the right size for building a snowman and adding a few fashion accessories.

audreypettit-thermoweb-frostybellssnowman2
The snowman is made from my favorite fabric for frosties, Therm O Web Stitch n’ Sew fleece. I made the hat, eyes, and coal buttons from felt, and the arms from chenille stems. A hand-stitched mouth, and a nose carved from wood. I gave him a candy cane and pine-bough wreath to hold. And finally, doused him in a good coat of flaky mica glitter.

I do love making snowmen at the holidays, and I’m so happy with how he turned out. This little guy was snatched twice at the party, so I think he went over well. I’ve got the complete step-by-step tutorial for him up on the Therm O Web blog, if you’d like to learn more.

Thanks for stopping by, Friends! How are your holiday preparations coming along?  I finally finished my tree yesterday, so now the bulk of my decorating is done. One thing out of many to check off that list. Baby steps, right?
