Monster Mash with PhotoPlay Paper

October is here! My favorite month of the year! Time for pumpkins and leaves and all things Halloween. So what better time to share a card that I made for PhotoPlay Paper with their adorable new Halloween collection for the year, Monster Mash.

This card is a very quick and easy design with background patterned paper and a 3×4 journaling card from the cut-apart kit paper. I layered the journaling card onto some contrasting paper, using my old Tim Holtz Stitched Ovals die set to cut negative scalloped borders across the top and bottom of the panel. And then for additional accent, I added one of the removed scallop strips across the center of the card, along with a twine wrap and bow.

And last, but not least, a pair of cardstock sticker characters and sentiment strip finish off the design.
Happy Friday, crafty friends! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Another Year… with CardMaps

Happy Thursday, crafty friends! At the beginning of July, a new set of CardMaps designs were released over at PageMaps, and I had the great pleasure of creating some projects with the new sketches for the reveal. Today I’m sharing one of those cards here featuring the adorable Some Days collection by PinkFresh Studio.

I am always in need of birthday cards for my stash, and thought this bright happy paper with it’s typography print was perfect for the occasion. I used the 6×6 paper pad for this, along with the coordinating enamel dots and die cuts… and went back to one of my favorite old-school techniques which is sewing on paper. Love the pop of green that zigzag stitching brings.

But probably my favorite part of this card was also the scariest to achieve, and that is the splotchy, messy paint stain behind the flowers. There’s something intimidating about pouring paint onto something you’ve spent time creating, but it’s also fun to take more of a mixed-media approach to papercrafting at times. My best advice is to go slow and easy on the paint, and dab it quickly with a bit of paper towel. You can always add more…. it’s just the take-away that is difficult.

The patterned papers had more of a creamy background tone to them, so I used Bristol Smooth cardstock here instead of white. I pulled out more green from the design with the stamped sentiment strip, and finished off with the old corner rounder and a trio of enamel dots.

You can find the sketch for this card, along with many other great designs, over on the CardMaps page.

Say Cheese with Therm O Web & Miss Ink Stamps

Hello, crafty friends! I hope you are all doing well, as it’s been a bit since I’ve checked in here. The summer has ended up being a busier time than I expected it would, and that has kept me away longer than I planned. It’s been lovely, though…. I’ve had both kids around on and off and my parents were here visiting for most of the summer. After the super long break in visits due to Covid, it was really nice to see them again.

Today I’m going back a bit to share a project I made for the Therm O Web blog for a recent collaboration with Miss Ink Stamps. I used the adorable Say Cheese stamp set and their Scene Builder Stencil to make a gift set for my dear friend, Paige, who celebrates a birthday in July. I pulled out a really old pillow box die from Sizzix to make the gift box, using patterned paper from PhotoPlay Paper’s Fern & Willard collection. And the coordinating tag matches with the same paper, stamps, and fuzzy grass accents die cut from Therm O Web deco foil flock transfer sheets.

I am always a sucker for cute little critters! And these happy papers are so perfect for a bright summer day. I’ve got all the details and a step-by-step tutorial for these projects up on the Therm O Web blog, if you’d like to learn more.
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Shine Bright with PhotoPlay Paper

Happy Wednesday, crafty friends! Hope everyone is doing well and that my friends and family in the States enjoyed your long holiday weekend. Memorial Day, of course, is a day to stop and remember and honor all of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. For all of our privileges and freedom, I give my deepest thanks.

Besides being a day of remembrance, Memorial Day is also the unofficial start to summer, and what better way to celebrate than with some bright sunshiny summery fun, like this adorable card made with PhotoPlay Paper’s Fern & Willard collection. This card features papers from the 12×12 paper kit along with a 3×4 journaling card from the cut-apart card sheet. I used a stitched rectangle die as a layering piece, and dressed the card up with a bit of twine and a pair of cardstock stickers. The cute scalloped edges are snippets of the scalloped border sticker that were cut down to size.

Then, a banner die cut from the ephemera pack added to the inside of the card finished the design.

2021 Christmas Card Project- Week 15

Happy Friday, crafty friends! As I mentioned in a previous post, from now until December I am on a mission to make at least one holiday card a week during a crafty Zoom session with my friend, Kathie. It’s one way to stay connected to friends and family during these quarantine days, and a great way to build up my stash of cards for the year at the same time. I am calling this my 2021 Christmas Card Project, and each week I hope to share my progress with you.

For week 15, I made a pair of card using an older 6×6 paper pad from Carta Bella called Snow Much Fun.

Although this is truly a winter themed collection, I think it works perfectly for holiday cards, as well. I mixed patterned papers and crisp white cardstock with small 2×3 printed journaling cards that came in the 6×6 paper pad to create my winter scenes. I’ve been obsessed with the border dies by PhotoPlay recently, so both cards got some decorative edging using that set. And I pulled out some older stitched rectangle and oval dies by Tim Holtz to add more detail to the edges, too.

I found a few old stickers in my stash that matched the papers well, so they’ve been added to help build up the scene. And of course there’s a bit of twine to finish the designs. Unfortunately, a lot of these products are no longer available, but I do always hope to use up some of my older supplies and I think that Christmas cards are the perfect opportunity to do so. Because unless your friends and family are card makers, they’ll never know what’s old and what’s new!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful weekend and a very happy Mother’s Day!

Hoppy Greetings with Therm O Web & Newton’s Nook

Happy Monday! This past week, the team at Therm O Web did a collaboration week with our friends at Newton’s Nook. And today I wanted to share the cards that I made for the Therm O Web blog using Newton’s adorable Hoppy Greetings stamp and die sets.

Although this stamp set is primarily an Easter theme, it does also have sentiment options that work well throughout the year. I paired this sweet bunny with some limited edition toner sheet card fronts from Therm O Web in a new color option, kraft! I used our green foil sheets to add foil highlights to the kraft card fronts. And I love how that green and kraft combo looks with this patterned paper from PhotoPlay Paper’s Sweet as Honey collection.

It’s been awhile since I’ve used my Zig Real Brush markers, and had almost forgotten how much I enjoy using those to watercolor. I broke out my corner rounder punch and favorite PhotoPlay borders die set to add some decorative details to the cards.

I’ve got the complete step-by-step tutorial for adding foil to our printed toner sheets, along with all the instructions for these cards, up on the Therm O Web blog, if you’d like to learn more.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead!

Let’s Have Some Fun with CardMaps

Happy Monday, crafty friends! Hope everyone had a wonderful, sunshiny weekend! Today I am back to share a bright and happy friendship card that I made for the PageMaps blog featuring one of the new April CardMaps sketches. Here is the sketch that I used.

And here is my take on it using the adorable Fern & Willard collection by PhotoPlay Paper.

I absolutely adore the frogs in this collection! They are so cute and whimsical and just plain fun. I created a little scene for Fern using some older retired circle dies from Sizzix, layered with cardstock stickers from the 12×12 paper kit.

Crisp white cardstock mixed with Sizzix Cardstock Sheets. I added some of the stickers with foam dots for dimension and tied the card up with twine.

This card screams spring to me, and I love the mix of colors with that navy. Fun to do a card with some angles and curves, too, as I tend to be rather square. 😀

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you the start of a fabulous new week!

2021 Christmas Card Project- Week 13

Happy Friday, crafty friends! As I mentioned in a previous post, from now until December I am on a mission to make at least one holiday card a week during a crafty Zoom session with my friend, Kathie. It’s one way to stay connected to friends and family during these quarantine days, and a great way to build up my stash of cards for the year at the same time. I am calling this my 2021 Christmas Card Project, and each week I hope to share my progress with you.

For week 13, I made one card with a favorite older collection by PhotoPlay Paper, Mad4Plaid Christmas.

Mad4Plaid Christmas came out a few years ago, and is hard to find now… but I’m on a mission to use up my old paper kit as much as I can. This card uses 12×12 patterned papers and crisp white cardstock scalloped borders. The pole image is from the cut-apart journaling card sheet. I added thin strips of plaid paper to the top and bottom of that card to give it a little extra definition. Then embellished with a twine tie and puffy stickers.

Thanks so much for stopping by, friends! Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Bunny Kisses with Photoplay Paper

Hello, crafty friends! Happy Hump Day!
I am still on a spring kick right now with crafting and decorating. My house is filling up with sweet bunnies and chicks, and these bright spring things are making me so happy after the long winter gloom. With Easter now less than two weeks away, it’s time to share another card with you that features this year’s Photoplay Paper Easter collection, Baskets of Bunnies.

I love plaids and ginghams and checks, so it’s no surprise that this lime green version is my favorite paper in the collection kit. I added some small strips of a contrasting pattern and layered a die cut rectangle in crisp white cardstock to break up the prints. The verse is a 3×4 journaling card from the cut-apart paper sheet. A few stickers, scalloped borders, and a twine tie finish the design.

We are having the craziest weather here. Spring one day and then winter the next. Looks like March came in like a lion, and plans on leaving like one, too. Regardless, I hope you all have a wonderful day! And thanks so much for stopping by!

Life is Better with Photoplay Paper

Hello crafty friends, and happy Monday to you! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. It’s a beautiful, sunshiny day here in North Carolina, and I’ve got spring on my mind. So today I am sharing a bright and happy card that I made with Photoplay Paper’s new springtime collection, Fern and Willard.

Life is definitely better when you’re smiling, and how could you not smile over those adorable little ladybugs? Of course you all know by now that I’m a sucker for critters. I used the 12×12 kit papers and stickers to create this sweet scene. The cloud and grass border were stenciled using Distress inks. I added die cut ephemera bits to create the two-part sentiment.

We had a really cold, wintry weekend here, but am so happy to see the sun is out again today. Our Bradford pear and cherry trees are in full bloom, and the daffodils are out. I’m really hoping spring is here to stay. Maybe these little bugs will be my good luck charms.
Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a great day!
