Another Year… with CardMaps

Happy Thursday, crafty friends! At the beginning of July, a new set of CardMaps designs were released over at PageMaps, and I had the great pleasure of creating some projects with the new sketches for the reveal. Today I’m sharing one of those cards here featuring the adorable Some Days collection by PinkFresh Studio.

I am always in need of birthday cards for my stash, and thought this bright happy paper with it’s typography print was perfect for the occasion. I used the 6×6 paper pad for this, along with the coordinating enamel dots and die cuts… and went back to one of my favorite old-school techniques which is sewing on paper. Love the pop of green that zigzag stitching brings.

But probably my favorite part of this card was also the scariest to achieve, and that is the splotchy, messy paint stain behind the flowers. There’s something intimidating about pouring paint onto something you’ve spent time creating, but it’s also fun to take more of a mixed-media approach to papercrafting at times. My best advice is to go slow and easy on the paint, and dab it quickly with a bit of paper towel. You can always add more…. it’s just the take-away that is difficult.

The patterned papers had more of a creamy background tone to them, so I used Bristol Smooth cardstock here instead of white. I pulled out more green from the design with the stamped sentiment strip, and finished off with the old corner rounder and a trio of enamel dots.

You can find the sketch for this card, along with many other great designs, over on the CardMaps page.
And thanks so much for stopping by!

Let’s Have Some Fun with CardMaps

Happy Monday, crafty friends! Hope everyone had a wonderful, sunshiny weekend! Today I am back to share a bright and happy friendship card that I made for the PageMaps blog featuring one of the new April CardMaps sketches. Here is the sketch that I used.

And here is my take on it using the adorable Fern & Willard collection by PhotoPlay Paper.

I absolutely adore the frogs in this collection! They are so cute and whimsical and just plain fun. I created a little scene for Fern using some older retired circle dies from Sizzix, layered with cardstock stickers from the 12×12 paper kit.

Crisp white cardstock mixed with Sizzix Cardstock Sheets. I added some of the stickers with foam dots for dimension and tied the card up with twine.

This card screams spring to me, and I love the mix of colors with that navy. Fun to do a card with some angles and curves, too, as I tend to be rather square. 😀

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you the start of a fabulous new week!

Hugs & Kisses with CardMaps

Happy Tuesday, crafty friends! Today I’m back to share some Valentine love with a card that I made for the PageMaps site using one of the January 2021 CardMaps sketches.

Here is the fun sketch that I used, and my take on it featuring this year’s Valentine collection by PhotoPlay Paper called Love Letters.

I am a huge fan of mixing patterned papers, so this was such a fun sketch to work with. I used two main prints for the background, breaking them up with a thin strip of cardstock and twine. And of course those banner flags add in a lot more pattern, too. Super fun, and a great way to use up  small scraps of paper you may have laying around.

PhotoPlay has started doing a new thing where they provide die cut sheets that coordinate with their collections, and that is what I used on the cute bird here. I really like these because you get multiple images on each sheet, and all the coloring is already done for you. Simply die cut or fussy cut the image you want, and you are good to go.

Happy Valentine’s week! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Frosty Friends with CardMaps

Happy Monday, crafty friends! I’m kicking off the week with a card share featuring another card that I made for the PageMaps site using one of the new January CardMaps sketches.

Here is the fun sketch that I used, and my take on it using PhotoPlay Paper’s adorable Winter Memories collection.

You all know that I’m a huge sucker for cute critters, and this paper collection is filled with them. Love that this line works equally well for holiday cards as it does for the winter season, which is the emphasis of my card today.

I closely followed the sketch design with layers of patterned papers edged in lacy die cut trim. I cut a focal block from papers with a more solid print to help the cute woodland animal stand out. The snowbank was die cut using Heffy Doodle Slopey-Joes border dies. And then a twine tie finished the design.

We were forecast to get our first snowfall of the year this past week…. but it didn’t happen. Maybe soon?

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful week!

Freezin’ Season with CardMaps

Happy New Year, crafty friends! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and were able to celebrate in some special way. It may have been a quiet holiday for many of you, as it was for me… but regardless, it sure was nice to close the book on 2020, wasn’t it? Now here we are in January, in a brand new year with new possibilities, a fresh start, and a clean slate! Cheers to that!

For all you fans of sketch layouts, January also brings a new set of sketches on the PageMaps site. And once again, I was so very happy to be able to create a few projects using the new January CardMaps designs. Here is the first of the sketches that I used, and my take on it using stamps from LDRS Creative.

This is the adorable LDRS Snowball Fight stamp and die set that I received for a Therm O Web collaboration back in December. Ever since I got my sweet pup Finley, who very much reminds me of an arctic fox, I simply cannot resist cute fox images like these. I stamped these cuties in Tuxedo Black ink onto PhotoPlay Paper cardstock and colored them with Copic markers. They were then die cut with the coordinating dies.

The sketch used an assortment of shapes and frames behind the focal image, so I tried to recreate that look with a variety of dies. The circles and the fold-over tag are new-to-me dies from Reverse Confetti. I added a snowbank border die cut using Heffy Doodle’s stitched Slopey-Joes border dies, too.

Patterned paper is some older 6×6 paper pads from Fancy Pants and Carta Bella. As always, I’ll attach a list of supplies below.

Hope your January is off to a great start! I’ve never really been one for making New Year’s resolutions, but my head is filled with dreams and goals for the upcoming year. Mostly revolving around crafting and fun. 😀
How about you, friends? Any new resolutions out there?

It’s Your Day with CardMaps

Happy Monday, crafty friends! Here we are on the last day of August already, can you believe that? The months are just zipping by, and right about now it feels like the years are flying by, too. My boy, Pete, is turning 25 in just two short days. How on earth can that even be possible?

At the beginning of July, a new set of card sketches was released on the PageMaps website, and I was very excited to be able to make some project samples using the new designs. Today I have one last July CardMaps card to share. Here is the fun sketch that I used, and my take on it featuring some adorable stamps from Hello Bluebird.

This is the seriously cute Party On the Farm stamp and die set from Hello Bluebird. I know I often mention what a sucker I am for sweet critters, but these little farm animals in particular melt my heart. Both of my parents grew up on farms, and I have very happy memories of childhood days spent on my aunt’s farm in Minnesota. So I just couldn’t resist.

As you can see, I very closely followed the sketch. The images were stamped and colored with Copic markers. I used a pierced circle to die cut the farm image, and then popped the animals up with foam dots to add some depth to the scene.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a very wonderful week!

You are My Honey Bee with CardMaps

Happy Monday, crafty friends! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Today I am sharing a card that I made for the July CardMaps sketches on the PageMaps blog.

Here is the fun sketch that I used, and my take on it featuring the adorable Wild Honey collection from Photo Play Paper.

I used to be terrified of bees when I was little, but now I just love them. As soon as I saw the bee images in the sketch, I knew just what to do. The Wild Honey line has lots of sweet bee stickers to chose from. The sentiment and bee hive are from the sticker sheet, too. I popped some of the images up with foam tape to give a bit of depth and dimension to this simple design.

Crisp white cardstock and a layer of patterned paper. I used the old postage stamp Sizzix die set to cut the four blocks of contrasting paper.

So bright and happy for the summertime months.  And filled with bees, which just makes me smile.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you have an amazing week ahead!

Hello, crafty friends! Happy Wednesday and happy July to you! It’s the start of a new month and a new quarter, and that means that today marks the release of a brand new set of card sketches over on the PageMaps site. I had the great fun of creating some projects with the new sketches, and am happy to share them with you here on the blog, starting today with a little patriotic number just in time for the 4th of July.

Here is the fun sketch that I used, and my take on it featuring the adorable Gnome for the Holidays 4th of July collection by Photo Play Paper.

As you can see, I followed the sketch very closely, and love how quickly and easily this came together. Just simple layers of crisp white cardstock mixed with bold Americana prints from the paper kit.

I made my own tag out of one of the patterned papers to get the perfect fit for the center of the card. And then used stacked circle dies to take a notch out of the side to fit the design. The sentiment and the gnome and BBQ are cardstock stickers, popped up with foam tape for a bit of dimension.

Such a fun collection. These silly gnomes just make me smile. There is a whole series of Gnome for the Holidays now, if you haven’t seen. And for a few more days (until July 9, 2020), Becky is offering raffle tickets for a chance to win this amazing collection giveaway shown below, all in honor of the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. Details and ticket purchase can be found on the PageMaps website HERE.

Such a great cause, and an amazing raffle prize, too. Good luck to all! And don’t forget to check out all the new July PageMaps and CardMaps sketches for tons of crafting inspiration.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful day!

A Wild Honey Hello with Photo Play Paper

Happy Monday, crafty friends! I hope you had a lovely weekend and that you were able to celebrate all those special men in your lives yesterday for Father’s Day. Today I have a just-for-fun card to share that I made with the adorable Wild Honey collection from PhotoPlay Paper.

I absolutely love honey bees, so this collection is really one of my favorites from the summer release. I used one of the cut-apart journaling cards for the sentiment, just cutting some small notches from the top and bottom with a circle punch.

The stickers were popped up with foam dots, then a few die cut circles for layering, and a simple twine tie. This card was based upon a sketch from the April CardMaps sketches on the PageMaps blog.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead!

Love You S’More with CardMaps

PMU Header

Hello crafty friends! Happy Memorial Day to you (and happy birthday to my sweet mom, too)! Memorial Day always feels like the unofficial start of summer, doesn’t it? And although we are still sheltering in place as much as possible, I can’t help dreaming of all those wonderful summer things… picnics and backyard bbq’s… trips to the beach…. or s’mores around the campfire. So perfect time to share this last card that I made for the April 2020 CardMaps sketches on the PageMaps blog.

Here is the fun sketch that I used, and my take on it featuring the adorable Camp Happy Bear collection from Photo Play Paper.

I used to love to camp in my younger days, and still fondly remember many happy nights spent around the campfire, just like these cute guys here are doing. I’m just a sucker for cute critters. Love that this bear can’t decide between fish or dessert, so he’s having both. Definitely a bear after my own heart.

I followed the sketch very closely this time. The owl and the tree branch image on the background are from one of the larger cut-apart 4×6 journaling cards that I trimmed down to size. I layered the bottom with several patterned papers from the collection, and inked the cardstock base with a bit of light Distress ink to match. An old cloud border die was used to make the shrub line. Then I filled in cardstock stickers for the rest of the design.

These days, I’d rather camp out in a chair on the beach than in an actual campground. How about you? Any happy campers in your house?

Thanks so much for stopping by! Happy Memorial Day. Let us never forget
this day to remember and honor
all the brave heroes who served
to hold our flag high
