Tim Holtz & Sizzix 2021 Chapter 1 Release- Harrison

Happy Monday, crafty friends, and happy February! Today I am excited to share another project that I made for the Tim Holtz 2021 Sizzix Chapter 1 release, shared recently on YouTube Live. This is Harrison, another adorable critter just added to the popular Colorize line.

You all know that I’m a sucker for critters, so I truly adore all the sweet Colorize animals, and love that they are scaled to work perfectly together if you want to mix and match them. And now with this release, Tim has added a set of Funky Trees to create background settings for the animals, too.

I had lots of fun combining both new and older sets to make the jungle scene for Harrison to perch in. Of course there are the tall layered trees from the new Funky Trees set. And I used the previously released Media Marks and Circle Play die sets to create the bushes and the sun. Tiny Type letters and the Curio Box banner were used to create the start of the pun sentiment that was carried to the inside of the card.

For a big impact on a big sentiment, the new Alphanumeric Bold alphabet set is just the ticket.

This is a larger card design at 5×7, so you can see how grand these new Colorize and Funky sets can be. Perfect for cards or altered art or home decor. And now one more adorable animal to add to the zoo!

It’s an exciting day for fans of Tim Holtz Distress, because today a new color is revealed! I have no idea what it is, and cannot wait to see. I’m wondering if it’s a red, for the month of love. What do you think? Any guesses from you?

Valentines at AudOnes Prims

Happy Tuesday, crafty friends! Hope your frosty winter week is getting off to a great start. Can you believe that we are halfway through January, already? It’s time for Valentines, and I’m so happy to share some with you today.

I’ve had so much fun this week crafting up these sweet bowl filler hearts. These are made from some of my favorite quilting fabrics from the Eclectic Elements collection by Tim Holtz. I used four different fabrics from the Wallflower line to piece each of the tops, and I’m so happy with the quilted look that they have. Hand-dyed lace trim was added between two of the sections, and I finished each heart with a tufted vintage mother-of-pearl button.

This is a great project for using up some of those smaller fabric scraps that you might have laying around, and I love how they look piled up in a basket or bowl. Just a fun way to add some cheer at any time of year.

These pieced heart bowl fillers are now available in my AudOnes Prims Shop! (click HERE)!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Mr. Rabbit with Tim Holtz

Happy Sunday, crafty friends! I am so excited today to begin sharing my makes for the Tim Holtz Sizzix Chapter 1 release for 2021! This release is available NOW, and if you didn’t get the chance yesterday to watch the live show, filled with tons of amazing project inspiration, you can catch the replay on the Tim Holtz YouTube channel.

I am so, so thrilled to have been able to create projects for this release. The new die sets are just amazing, and I’m sure you will find many new favorites to add to your wish list. There are adorable new characters in the popular Colorize line, new seasonal selections and steampunk classics, lots of stunning flowers and new funky designs. I think my personal favorite is this guy right here, Mr. Rabbit. So today I am sharing my favorite make from this release, a wool applique pillow with lots of hand-stitching and gorgeous new Tim Holtz fabrics from his Eclectic Elements collection.

Mr. Rabbit is a Bigz die, which means its steel edges are perfect for die cutting thicker materials, like the heavy wool felt that I used here. After die cutting the rabbit, I pinned it in place on a pillow top that I made from the new Abandoned Eclectic Elements fabric line, and then hand-stitched around the outline and detailing with a combination of blanket and outline stitches. I satin stitched the nose, and added a flat black bead for the eye. A chocolate-brown pom pom gives Mr. Rabbit a bit of dimension with a fluffy cotton tail.

The pillow back was made from the same heavy wool I used on the rabbit. I quilted the pillow front, and added a big button and ruffled ribbon and trim to finish the design.

Do you have a favorite from the new Chapter 1 release? I would love to hear!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Tim Holtz Facebook Live Thinlits Die Release- Distinguished

Happy Monday, crafty friends! Did you all happen to catch the surprise announcement on Tim’s Facebook Live yesterday afternoon? Sizzix has just released coordinating Thinlits die sets for two very popular Tim Holtz stamp sets, Distinguished and Snarky Cats. These new die sets are available now, but do note that they are a limited edition release. So if you’re like me, and love to have dies to match your favorite stamps, you might want to grab these up before they are sold out and gone forever.

Today I am excited to share a card that I made for the FB Live using the Distinguished stamp set and new coordinating Distinguished Thinlits dies. I absolutely love all the different ways the designers have used these stamps. At first glance, it may seem like this set would only be good for masculine designs, but I have seen it used for so much more, like steampunk or even feminine styles. Since the holiday season is upon us, I created a Christmas card for the reveal, mixing the Distinguished images with the Alphanumeric Shadow Upper dies from the last release.

First of all, can we just talk about the amazing detail on these Thinlits dies? I mean, look at how closely the dies cut to the stamps, leaving no halo of white paper around the edges. And even the smallest areas, like the inside of the umbrella handle and the inside of the shirt collars, are cut cleanly. How awesome is that?

For my card, I layered some Dapper 12×12 patterned paper onto sanded Kraft Stock Blackout cardstock to begin. Followed by a layer of watercolor paper that was inked in shades of green Distress ink and stamped repeatedly with both the text and hanger images from the set. I stamped the background in Distress ink as well, and misted the paper liberally with water afterwards to blend, meld, and smooth the inks and images and colors together.

I die cut the NOEL letters from Blackout and Kraft Stock cardstock, and then used foam dots to pop them onto the card. The Distinguished images were tucked behind, above, and around the lettering. I added some die cut holly greenery to dress up the umbrella and hat. And did you know that Sizzix makes sets of sequins and beads? Who knew, right? I believe Tim calls those “shakedy bits”! I used the Sizzix Festive Sequins set to add a final accent to the design.

As I mentioned at the top of the post, these new Sizzix Thinlits die sets that coordinate with both the Distinguished and Snarky Cats stamp set are a limited edition release. So once they are sold out, they are gone forever. If you’d like to get your hands on these sets, you can find them at Sizzix, Stamper’s Anonymous, Scrapbook.com, and Simon Says Stamp…. and I’ll link you to them below.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!

Dreams do Come True with Therm O Web

Happy Friday, crafty friends! This week, we have fun new products to celebrate at Therm O Web with the release of a line of five fairytale-inspired shimmery colors of iCraft Deco Foil Transfer Sheets.

Today I am sharing a set of cards on the Therm O Web blog featuring two of the new fairytale-inspired colors of iCraft Deco Foil, Prince Periwinkle and Glass Slipper.

The paper collection I’ve used is an older one from PhotoPlay Paper but talk about a fabulous color match for the new foils, and how perfect for our theme this week. I have combined papers, stickers, and cut-apart journaling cards with my current favorite polka dot stencil to create fun and whimsical party cards with amazing foiled backgrounds.

The iridescent shine of these new foil colors is amazing, and I love how they change colors depending on how the light hits them. Almost magical, wouldn’t you say?

I used the new Transfer Gel Duo to apply the foil, and the great thing about this new formulation is that it can be used with or without heat to transfer. If you’d like to learn more, I’ve got all the details and step-by-step instructions up on the Therm O Web blog today.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Creativation 2020 with Photo Play Paper’s Tulla & Norbert

Hello gnomies, happy Sunday to you! It’s Creativation weekend! Such an exciting time for paper crafters with all the new products heading our way. I had the great pleasure of getting my hands on some of the new Photo Play Paper releases to create card samples for the show, and I can’t wait to share these new collections that are as cute as can be. First up today is Tulla & Norbert.

Gnomes have been super trendy these past few months, and that is continuing into the new year with this sweet spring-inspired collection. Love the colors in this one! Piled on lots of patterned papers for this card, adding in crisp white cardstock to help define all those layers. The rainbow background is one of the Cut-Apart cards, trimmed down to size. Then sticker and die cut ephemera details to finish the design.

Have you all been following along with the Creativation excitement? Any new immediate must-have favorites for you?

Therm O Web & GinaK Designs Fall 2019 Release

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Therm O Web & GinaK Designs Mix N’ Mingle Fall 2019 Release bloghop! Today we are super excited to reveal two brand new fall and holiday themed stamp, stencil, and die sets from the popular Stampn’Stencil collection with a hop filled with tons of project ideas, inspiration, and of course prizes. So let’s get started!

If you’re not familiar with the Stampn’Stencil product line, then you are in for a treat. These sets contain high-quality clear acrylic stamps, the matching dies, and stencils that coordinate with the stamps, too. Mix and match them all together, use the stencils all on their own, or the stamps on their own. There are just so many design possibilities.

My tag set today uses the beautiful new Autumn Wishes Stampn’Stencil set. I stamped both tree trunks that come in the set in rich brown inks, and then added the coordinating leaf images in bright fall colors. I repeated the same colors on the individual leaves, and die cut all the pieces with the matching dies. The sentiment is just one of the greetings from the set.

The beautiful flourish background pattern was made with the Autumn Wishes stencil that’s included in the set. I added a bit of patterned paper from Simple Stories, and finished off the tags with some pretty layered trims.

Be sure to enter the Rafflecopter giveaway for your chance to win a $50 gift card to the Therm O Web shop (to enter, click on the giveaway graphic right below or click on the highlighted text above). There is a second $50 prize giveaway from the GinaK Designs shop as well, so be sure to leave comments all along the hop. Entries are open until 11:59 PM CST on Monday, September 9th, and winners will be announced by the 11th at 10:00 am CST.

The next stop along the hop is Emily Loggans. If you’re just joining me now, or have gotten lost along the way, you can find the full hop list and complete details on the Therm O Web and GinaK Designs blogs. Thanks for stopping by! Enjoy the hop!

Tim Holtz Sizzix Chapter 3 Release- Skull & Crossbones

Happy Wednesday, crafty friends! Did you all have a chance to check out Tim’s fabulous new Sizzix Chapter 3 release on Facebook Live last week? Wasn’t it amazing? Over two hours of festive and frightening new products to gawk over, and tons and tons of fantastic projects and ideas to see. If you missed it, never fear… you can watch the replay (part 1 Halloween) below.

When I shared about the new holiday release on my last post, I hinted at a secret project assignment that Tim asked me to work on for the reveal, and I know some of you have already guessed what that was. Fabric! Yes, my twist was to apply the new dies to some of my AudOnes Prims. And boy, was I excited to give that a try! A huge thank you to Tim, Mario, and Paula for this super fun opportunity!

Those of you who have followed along on my AudOnes Prims venture know how much I love to create silly primitive rag dollies, so of course that was the very first project that I tackled. This cute and creepy little girl doll features some of my favorite things…. buttons and bows, Crossroads Denim and Tim Holtz Eclectic Elements fabric, and a big spooky Halloween skull emblem right on the front that was made with the new Skull & Crossbones Bigz Die.

Because the Skull & Crossbones is a Bigz die, you can easily die cut all sorts of thicker materials with it, making it perfect to use with fabric projects like this. I used wool for both the skull and bones here, doubling up the layers for the bones in her hair. And just as you can use Distress Ink and Paint to add detail to paper projects, you can apply the same techniques to add depth, age, and dimension to fabric pieces, too.

Here’s how I do it.

Begin by die cutting the bones from heavy wool or wool felt. You can use thinner materials, but something thicker really works best. I’ll share tips for die cutting thin cotton fabric in an upcoming post.

Dab Distress Inks or Oxides onto a non-stick craft mat, and then spray the inks heavily with water using a Distress Sprayer. For this project, I used Pumice Stone and Hickory Smoke Distress Ink.

*Note: use this technique only on fabric projects that you don’t plan on washing… as just like with primitive style tea or coffee staining, Distress inks will wash out in water.

Press the fabric die cuts into the ink mixture, twisting and swiping them through the inks to add color. Not dark enough? Let the fabric die and repeat the process again. Once you have the color where you like it, make sure to let the pieces dry completely.

When it comes to applying applique die cuts to fabric, I take a few shortcuts. The standard way would be to add an iron-on fusible interfacing to the back, or to attach the pieces with lots of pins. But I am hopeless with an iron, and often end up with pieces slipping or shifting with pins. So my trick is to stick my appliques down with Therm O Web Fabric Fuse adhesive. That way I can get the pieces exactly where I want them, and I know they’ll stay in place. And once it’s dry, you can go back and add stitching over the top if you wish. Love it.

For bigger die cuts, like the skull, I do like to go around the edges with a bit of machine stitching, but with the glue, that step isn’t necessary. For thinner dies, like the crossbones, I stacked two wool pieces together and simply stitched down the center. The double thickness helps add structure to loose flappy pieces, like the hair bows. And finally, you can add further details to the fabric dies, like using Distress paint to highlight the negative opening. Or adding buttons for eyes. Or tying multiple shapes together with a bit of ribbon or twine.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I’ve got lots more holiday projects to share, so hope to see you all soon!
