Rawr Means… with Ranger Ink

Hi crafty friends! Before I get started with today’s card share, I wanted to say a huge thank you to all of you who joined along in the Tim Holtz Creativation 2019 Blog Hop last week. Hope you all enjoyed taking a closer peek at some of the amazing trade show projects as much as I did. The winners randomly chosen from all the comments left along the hop have been posted over on Richele Christensen’s blog CaliforniaARTgirl, so be sure to pop over there to see if one of them was YOU!

Today I have a bit of an nontraditional Valentine card to share with you that I made for the Ranger Ink blog using fun new die sets from Tim Holtz and some new Distress Oxide Spray ink, too. I know dinosaurs might not be your first thought for a Valentine design, but I am pretty smitten with these guys from the new Chapter 1 Prehistoric die set, and think they work for any occasion.

Of course Valentine’s Day needs hearts, so I started the card with a large heart-shaped die cut opening to frame my cute little dinosaur. Since the heart is quite large and symmetrical, I went with a 5×5 square card for my design, and layered the base with inked cardstock in a bit of a different take on Valentine’s colors using Iced Spruce, Spun Sugar, and Candied Apple Distress ink. It’s unusual, but I really love this combo.

The organic “tar pit” look to the window opening was made with the new Chapter 1 Splat die set. At first glance, this die set may seem a little tricky, but I love how it pairs with the dinosaurs, and love that you can use both the positive and the negative shapes it creates. I used just one of the dies from the set here, but there are several more that can stack to build really unique layers. The base and sentiment were stamped with a sentiment from Tim’s Simple Sayings stamp set. The Rawr means stamp and the large stitched heart are from my friend Emma at My Creative Time.

I’ve got the full step-by-step tutorial up on the Ranger Ink blog, if you’d like to learn more.

Hope you all have a lovely Valentine’s Day! Any special plans in the works?

B is for Boy with Photo Play Paper

I’m reaching back into my project archives for my card share today! The weather has turned warm here, and it feels like spring has finally arrived. Perfect time for soft pastels and sweet baby animals, like this little cutie from Photo Play Paper’s adorable About a Little Boy collection.

Just a happy combo of polka dots and plaid. And I am always a sucker for the cute little critters, too. This guy is heading off on a balloon ride to make a very special delivery. He’s got a puffy cloudy sky to soften his journey, made with a bit of masking and Distress ink. The scene is framed with some of my favorite stitched rectangle dies, and tied up with string.

Happy Friday, friends! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! My wee Missy Nik is finishing up her first year at university tomorrow, and is coming home for the summer. Let the summer vacation begin!

Sketchy Saturday- Hello Foxy

I was excited to see that my friend, Laurel, is now offering weekly sketches on her blog. I love me a good sketch, and was very happy to find the time to play along with this week’s Sketchy Saturday sketch.

I had a cute little fox leftover from my guest project on Laurel’s fun Inspired By challenge blog a couple of weeks ago, so decided to use him on my card today. Both the fox and the sentiment are from the Fall Friends set by My Creative Time. I colored the fox with Zig markers.

As a nod to Laurel’s fabulous signature style, I broke out my sewing machine and added some wonky stitching to my card. And for another favorite technique that I haven’t done in awhile, I fussy cut the flowers from a sheet of patterned paper. The paper is Photoplay Paper’s beautiful Thinking of You collection.

And here is this week’s Sketchy Saturday sketch:

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful day!

Inspired By Challenge- Foxy Succulents

Hello, Friends!

Have you all seen the fun news? The Inspired By challenge blog is back with new weekly challenges and a new design team, too. And today I am super excited to be joining in with a guest project for challenge #8, Foxy Succulents!

How will this photo inspire you? Theme? Colors? Placement? Well you all know by now what a big fan I am of cute little critters… so of course I went very literal with my project for today, with a fox, and some succulents thrown in, too. 😀

Lots of crisp white layers here, and stamping and stenciling. I layered Tim Holtz’s new Stacked Postage dies with his Stitched Rectangles for the framework. The background is stenciled with Distress ink using a Simon Says Stamp stencil that really put me in mind of the shape of succulent leaves.

The cute little fox was stamped, die cut, and colored with my Zig real brush markers. The succulent spray and sentiment are from a set by Sizzix. I added some white gel pen marks to the fox’s face to mimic the cutie in the inspiration photo.

Can’t wait to see what you all do with this fun challenge. Be sure to check out the Inspired By blog to play along, and a huge thank you to Laurel for letting me join in today! Have a great day, everyone! And a great weekend, too!

Missing You with Ranger Ink

Happy Wednesday, friends!

I’m reaching back into my archives a bit to share this card that I made for Creativations (CHA) last year. Yup, we’re going all the way back to January 2017 today, with this crazy cat card that I made for the Ranger Ink booth.

I am such a fan of the Tim Holtz crazy critter collection. These silly guys make me smile, every time. This little kitty here was colored with Distress inks, in a splotchy alley-cat sort of style. A pretty brocade background stamp, and a simple die cut frame. I added a snippet of patterned paper to the bottom, and die cut berries and hearts. It’s got a bit of a Valentine look to it……. in a Crazy sort of way, of course!

Hope your week is going great! I’ll be back tomorrow with a special guest post that I’m super excited to share. Have a wonderful day, everyone! See you all then!

Valentine Monsters with Sizzix

Hello, hello friends, and happy Valentine’s Day! Any special plans with your sweeties in the works for today? I’m having more of a “Galentine’s” crafty day with a gal pal today. Laughing and crafting, maybe coffee and treats, sounds like my kind of day. And I couldn’t let the day pass without creating some little goody bags for my two Valentines. My kiddos may be all grown up now…. but who doesn’t like a few sweet treats, right?

Of course a treat bag needs a good tag tie. So I pulled out some of my favorite dies and lots of pretty new Distress Oxide inks to whip up my tags for this year. Who says monsters are only good for Halloween?

To create these tags, I die cut and layered two tag shapes together from the Tim Holtz Tag die set, die cutting an oval shape from the center of the second tag. I used a layering stencil on the top tag, ink blended in my all time favorite Valentine color palette of pink and brown. I used the same colors to create a smooshed ink background for the window opening, and then added those silly pieced monsters. Those guys really make me smile.

I hand-cut polka dots to add to my monsters, and hand-cut hearts, too. I am crazy about Ranger’s Opaque Crackle Texture Paste these days, so that was rubbed into the corners and spots. A bit of Distress Crayon really brings out the great cracks and texture. I added dots of Glossy Accents to the eyes. The sentiments are stamps from my sweet friend, Emma, at My Creative Time.

Hope you all have a wonderful Valentine’s Day! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Creativation 2018- Paper Crane with Photo Play Paper

Hello, hello, friends, and thanks for stopping by! Hope you all are having a wonderful week! Today I’m back with another card I created for the Creativations (CHA) 2018 show. This time, a card for the Photo Play Paper booth featuring their super adorable new collection, Paper Crane.

This card is a 5×5 design, with lots of layers of the pretty papers and a staggered die cut pattern of circles and squares. I added crisp white cardstock to set off the background, and inked the round window to match the beautiful teal color of the papers in this line. A bit of twine pulls out the color of the bonsai tree.

One of my favorite elements from this new collection are the layered stickers, which I used here mixed with cardstock stickers to create the focal point of the design. Love the extra dimension from the stacked stickers… and the bit of sparkle from the glittered areas, too.

Paper Crane will be available this month and is shipping soon! And best thing is, all Photo Play Paper products (including this one) are currently on sale at Scrapbook.com!
