For My Sweet Friend with Therm O Web

Hello Crafty Friends! Happy Wednesday!

This week, I’ve found myself immersed in the world of competitive online gaming. We’re talking the main event of the biggest e-sports competition of the year, as 16 teams battle for a prize pool of more than $20 million in The 2016 International Dota 2 Championships at Seattle’s Key Arena.

After several days of group stages, the main event kicked off Monday with teams fighting in a double-elimination bracket to determine who gets to keep the lion’s share of the prize pool. This is the largest prize pool in e-sports history, and excitement is riding high. And yes friends, you can catch all the action live-stream on Steam.

As you can imagine, this is the highlight of the year for my own online gamer. So if a mom has any desire to spend even a single moment of her summer with said gamer, there’s only one thing to do. Become a Dota2 fan. And watch TI6…. every single minute of it.

And that’s what she will do.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb MM ForMySweetFriendCard
Of course that much gaming leaves little time for anything else, but I do have a card to share with you today. A sweet and girly friendship card I made for the Therm O Web blog featuring a fun new product to the Therm O Web line-up, Mixed Media Sheets.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb MM ForMySweetFriendCard2These new MM sheets can be inked, stamped, dyed, or painted, die cut, trimmed, torn, or punched for a huge variety of mixed media looks on any project. For my card, I inked the sheet with Distress Inks before die cutting and stamping. Love the extra texture it adds to my flower tower.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb MM ForMySweetFriendCard3I’m still working on my scrap pile. This is Little Yellow Bicycle’s Fern Girl collection again. And if you’d like to learn more about these Mixed Media Sheets, I’ve got a full tutorial for this project up on the Therm O Web blog.

Sorry if I’m slow getting around to visit this week, but I’ll be by soon!
Until then, Gyrocopter and I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Celebrating the Scrap Pile

Hello, Crafty Friends! Happy Friday!

I’m getting a bit of a late start today, but I did want to pop in quickly to share another card from my “projects from the scrap pile” series. I’m still working on building up my birthday card stash. And once again, I’m using scraps and leftover embellishments from Little Yellow Bicycle’s adorable Fern Girl collection.

AudreyPettit LYB CelebrateCard
Look at all this glorious brown, my friends! You all know  I am nutso for this color combo by now. And this was such an easy card to put together, ’cause everything is pre-made. Just a few borders, banners, and accents from the paper crafting kit, layered onto a simple pieced background. Doesn’t get much easier than that.

AudreyPettit LYB CelebrateCard2
I thought a horizontal, side-folding card would be a bit different and add a little extra element of interest to an otherwise CAS design. I rounded the right two corners, and added a little twine bow. Boom, done! A 5-minute card!

AudreyPettit LYB CelebrateCard3
And a few more scraps removed from the mountain! 😀

Thanks for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Make a Wish Little Fern Girl

Happy Wednesday, Friends!

Today I have another card to share with you from what I am calling my projects from the scrap pile series. This week, I’ve been working on building up my stash of birthday cards, using a sweet old collection from Little Yellow Bicycle called Fern Girl.

AudreyPettit LYB MakeaWishCard
This little flower fairy is so adorable, isn’t she?  She is flying by with birthday wishes, framed in a super easy scene made up of chipboard, stickers, and acetate. All done up in sweet girly colors. Mixed, of course, with a touch of my personal favorite, chocolate brown. 😉

AudreyPettit LYB MakeaWishCard2

Working with transparencies can sometimes be a bit tricky, but I gave it a try here. Tiny bling glue dots are hardly visible in the corners of the frame. And I decided to forego the adhesive on the sentiment label, and just tie it with bitty bows, instead.

AudreyPettit LYB MakeaWishCard3
It takes me back, working with all these old products. But it sure feels good. Now if only I could just make a dent in that mountain of a stash!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you all have a wonderful day!

A Feels Like Home Birthday

Happy Monday, Crafty Friends!

I have another card to share with you from what I am calling my “projects from the scrap pile” series. Today I’m building up my stash of birthday cards while re-visiting a super old collection from Little Yellow Bicycle called Feels Like Home.

AudreyPettit LYB HappyBirthdayCard This yellow, grey, and black combo has been one of my absolute favorites lately. And although this paper line was originally meant for fall, I think these colors work well for summer. Especially paired with this retro black-eyed Susan stamp I’ve had in my stash forever, but have never used. Sure feels good to break out the old stuff, doesn’t it?

AudreyPettit LYB HappyBirthdayCard2
I did some simple masking on the panel to create the stem and background flower. Then popped a second flower blossom, water-colored and coated with Glossy Accents, on top. The background was stamped with a woodgrain border stamp from PTI. Another oldie from my stash that had never been used. Bonus points there!

AudreyPettit LYB HappyBirthdayCard3
I had almost forgotten how many items used to come in each Little Yellow Bicycle collection. I tried to use lots of them on my card….. paper and banners and borders. Canvas sticker and vellum tape. Even so, I hardly made a dent in the stash.

Guess I need to keep working at it.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful day!

Besties with Therm O Web

Recently, my good buddy, Jon, celebrated his big 50th birthday. Of course a special occasion like that calls for a very special gift, and I’ve been pondering for quite some time just what I should do. But when I heard that Maya Road was teaming up with Therm O Web this week, I had my answer. Why not use one of Maya Road’s fabulous chipboard albums to create a mini album for Jon with all the photos I took when he came out here to visit? Bingo!

AudreyPettit Thermoweb MayaRoadAlbum2Now Jon came out to North Carolina to visit me oh, about a year and a half ago, so you can see I don’t move too quickly on things. I’m sure that boy had given up on the notion that I would ever send him a photo, let alone an entire album. So I think he was truly surprised by his gift.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb MayaRoadAlbumI really love how it turned out, too. I used Maya Road’s awesome 5-ring album, which was the perfect size. And with 9 chipboard pages, I was really able to add a lot of photos. Just what I needed.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb MayaRoadAlbum3Besides using a lot of photos, I also used a lot of old stash goodies I’ve been hoarding forever. For the first time ever, I actually used up every single sticker from a sheet, including even cutting up some of the negative shapes to use. And I believe that alone deserves a small congratulatory pat on the back. 😉

AudreyPettit Thermoweb MayaRoadAlbum4

For the inside pages, I stuck with my usual plan of attack for mini albums….coming up with a basic design and repeating it throughout the album. I think the whole album really flows well that way, and it does cut down on overall design time. A definite plus when you’ve got a lot of pages to cover.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb MayaRoadAlbum5
Papers, alpha stickers, and word strip stickers are from an older boy line from Authentique called Strong. Maya Road Kraft Library Cards and Envelopes keep my journaling hidden and hold extra photos, too.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb MayaRoadAlbum6I went a little crazy with some grungy stamping, and oh, my word, did I ever use some old stuff. Maybe you recognize some of it?

AudreyPettit Thermoweb MayaRoadAlbum7

AudreyPettit Thermoweb MayaRoadAlbum8

AudreyPettit Thermoweb MayaRoadAlbum9

Lots of pockets for hidden journaling, behind the photos as well as from the envelopes and pouches. I’ve got all the details and how-to’s up on the Therm O Web blog, if you’d like to learn more.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb MayaRoadAlbum11

AudreyPettit Thermoweb MayaRoadAlbum12I’m so tickled with how it all came out, but best part? Jon said it was the best gift he’s ever received! Now how awesome is that?

Thanks for stopping by, my friends! Wishing you all a fabulous day!

Love Treats with Sizzix

Audrey Pettit Sizzix LoveTreatTopper

When my kiddos were still wee tiny, I really looked forward to this time of the year. Some years I would make handmade Valentine’s for them to pass out in class, but mostly, my kids liked to pick out the themed store-bought variety based on their current favorite passion, like Barbie and Disney Princesses, Pokemon, Knock Knock Jokes, and Star Wars. How I loved watching them select the perfect Valentine for each classmate. Helped them tape on that little piece of candy. Lent a hand in crafting the best shoebox mailbox in anticipation of all the fabulous cards they would soon receive.

Audrey Pettit Sizzix LoveTreatTopper2These days, we don’t do much for Valentine’s, but I couldn’t let the day pass without putting together a few special treats for my sweets. After all, what’s Valentine’s Day without chocolate? And this recycled plastic packaging can hold a lot of it. Perfecto!

Audrey Pettit Sizzix LoveTreatTopper3I added a large paper doily to the inside of the box and wrapped the outside with a strip of pretty paper. Made a fancy tag to dress it all up using embossing powder and stamps, scraps of paper, and lots of fabulous Sizzix dies. I was inspired by my sweet bloggy friend, Alex, to break out my old watercolor paints. And by Yvonne, who has taught us how to rock everything gold. Thank you, ladies, for pushing me out of my comfort zone!

Audrey Pettit Sizzix LoveTreatTopper4I am in love with that love phrase. The little cupid, too. You can find out more about them, and my project, today on the Sizzix blog.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friends! Wishing you all a wonderful weekend. Anyone else planning on gluing themselves to the Olympics, like me?

Matchbook Notecards with Sizzix

We are having such a lovely, leisurely start to the day here. School is closed. Mother Nature has graced us with something we don’t see too often in these parts.

photo(4)Yes…it’s just a tiny little bit of snow. Just a thin white blanket. Enough to be pretty and enough to play with, and enough to mess up the roads for the school buses leaving their lots at 4 am. Our little Southern state has only bags of salt to arm ourselves with against foul weather, not the equipment and plows of our Northern neighbors. And so we cancel school at the first tiny flake. And then we sit home and stare out the windows.

Fortunately I was able to make it out yesterday to stock up on bread.

snowtobreadindexSo we should be able to ride out the storm in relative comfort! Haha

Audrey Pettit Sizzix MatchbookNotecards

I’ve been working on my thank you cards lately. Seems I always need so many of those right after the holidays. This year, I really wanted to do something unique and special with my thank you notes to show my friends and family how much I appreciate everything they do for me. With just a few of my favorite Sizzix dies, and a fun matchbook-fold technique, I came up with some really cute little note cards that I’m excited to share with you all!

Audrey Pettit Sizzix MatchbookNotecards2

Aren’t they fun? I love the simple matchbook style fold to these, and love that they fold flat enough for mailing and stay closed until you open them without need of adhesive to hold them shut. Better yet, they are a bit different than your regular note card, and look kinda fancy, but are actually very easy to create.

Here’s my stack of note cards all closed up. But unfold the front flap, and you have a perfect little spot for notes and greetings.

Audrey Pettit Sizzix MatchbookNotecards3I am such a sucker for that sweet little snowman. Think he adds a touch of unexpected whimsy and fun.

Audrey Pettit Sizzix MatchbookNotecards4

I’ve got the complete step-by-step tutorial for creating these cards up on the Sizzix blog, if you’d like to learn more.

Audrey Pettit Sizzix MatchbookNotecards5Thanks so much for stopping by, my friends! I’ll be back tomorrow with an extra post this week, a little guest designer post for Top Dog Dies…hope to see you all again then!

Making Merry with Therm O Web

This week, we are “Making Merry” with our product partner, Little Yellow Bicycle, on the Therm O Web blog. I made a pair of fun holiday cards for the blog, and today, I thought I would share one of them here with you, too.

AudreyPettit LYB Making Merry Santa CardI think my most favorite piece from the Making Merry collection is that adorable little elf from the chipboard shapes, so I built the design of my first card all around him. Since he’s on the small side, I knew I needed to create a bit of framework to draw attention to him, which I did here with layered journaling cards and banner flags. Adhering the elf with Therm O Web 3D Adhesive Squares adds some eye catching dimension, too.

AudreyPettit LYB Making Merry Santa Card3The sentiment is from the vellum tape stickers, layered onto cardstock and patterned paper. I added a long fishtail banner, buttons, ribbon, and some stitched holly leaves from the Paper Crafting Kit.

AudreyPettit LYB Making Merry Santa Card2Be sure to stop by the Therm O Web blog to see all the fabulous Making Merry projects the rest of the team has created for you. And have you heard about our 12 Days of Holiday Giveaway?

Retro Christmas with Sizzix

Hello, friends, and thanks for stopping by! It’s a very big day for me. Today, is my birthday! And so far, the day is off to a wonderful start. Thank you, thank you to all of you for the outpouring of well wishes, messages, and cards I’ve been receiving. Sure makes a girl feel special! I am so truly blessed to have such sweet friends in my life, like YOU!

Audrey Pettit Sizzix MerryChristmasCard

Today I have a quick holiday card to share that I made for the Sizzix blog, featuring an adorable new stamp and matching die set by Tim Holtz called Retro Christmas.

Audrey Pettit Sizzix MerryChristmasCard3Isn’t that Santa cute? So fun and detailed, yet soooo quick to create. Just stamp, die cut, color….and done. The new magnetic platform makes it easy to line up the dies with the stamped images, with no slipping, for perfect placement every time.

Audrey Pettit Sizzix MerryChristmasCard4The cute sentiment is also stamped and die cut. I added a quick wash of color to Santa and a bit of Stickles for some sparkle and shine. And do you remember me saying how I’ve been crushing on the color gray lately? Well I found more here for this card. This is Little Yellow Bicycle’s Making Merry collection. Loving the gray paired with black and traditional Christmas red. And bonus points that this card may….just may….be flat enough for mailing in a regular envelope.

Thinking of You

Hello Sweeties! Happy Wednesday to you!

It’s my day on the Authentique blog, and today I am sharing a sweet card made with the new Remembrance Collection. Remembrance is a Petite line featuring three double-sided patterned papers, a cut-apart Enhancements sheet, and cardstock stickers, and focuses on celebrating the special people in our lives. I don’t often work with purple, but I think the plum and chartreuse color combination here is absolutely stunning.

Aren’t those flowers beautiful? They are fussy cut from the patterned paper and popped onto the card base with foam dots for dimension. I added subtle hints of color to the flowers and leaves so they would shine.

The sentiment label is cut from the Enhancements sheet. Tied the card with hemp and a button. A bit of lace and the canvas butterfly sticker add a final touch.

I have the complete step-by-steps along with more photos up on the Authentique blog, if you’d like to take a peek.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friends! Hope you all have a wonderful day!
