Merry & Bright Gift Card Holders with Therm O Web

Happy December, crafty friends! There’s not much time left before Christmas will be upon us, and I’m sure many of you are busy with holiday preparations. I’m still struggling to get down the rest of my fall decorations, so I’m already quite behind. My chronic state at this time of year!

I have managed to get a bit of a head start on my holiday gift wrapping with these cute gift card holders that I made recently for the Therm O Web blog. I love giving gift cards, especially for those hard-to-shop-for folks… but I’m not much of a fan of those plain little envelopes they tend to come in. These folded holders are super easy to make, and are really fast to put together, too.

The papers and stickers I used are from the My Favorite Christmas collection by Echo Park Paper. Strips of Therm O Web cardstock were added down the center, and I die cut tags to match. Red Velvet Glitz Glitter Gel was stenciled on the background for some holiday sparkle and shine.

As always, I’ve got the full step-by-step tutorial for these gift card holders up on the Therm O Web blog, if you’d like to learn more.

And tell me…. how are your holiday preparations coming along?

Christmas Joy with Therm O Web & Paper House

Thanks for stopping by, crafty friends! Happy Fri-Yay! Christmas is almost here now… only four more days to go… and I still have lots of holiday projects that I’d love to pack in here on the blog. So today, I’m sharing a project heavy post with two cards and two gift boxes that I made for the recent Paper House Productions match up on the Therm O Web blog.

The gang at Paper House sent us their adorable Christmas Joy collection to play with, and in my current scrappy “use up everything that you can” state of mind, I did my best to make a serious dent in all of the papers, stickers, foiled paper, printed transparency, and washi tape that was included in the kit. So this first card pretty much got the works.

I used Therm O Web cardstock in a bright holiday color, and one of our designer stencils to create the background. Then layers of pretty Paper House goodies all tied up with string. Therm O Web glitter deco photo corners bring in a touch of sparkly holiday gold.

My next card uses many of the same elements, but this time arranged into a natural woodland theme with dark woodgrain patterned paper and the fresh green of pine. I added in a bit of shine with gold foiled paper, sticker, and journaling card… and of course those glittered photo corners, too.

With still a lot of Christmas Joy goodies left, I decided to put them into action on some of my holiday gift wrapping this year. By combining leftover journaling cards with stickers, I was able to whip up some quick gift box toppers to jazz up recycled boxes.

I needed to pop up the topper with foam dots to nest on top of the simple twine bow, so I started with heavyweight Therm O Web cardstock, topped it with a printed journaling card, and bedazzled it with dimensional and foiled stickers. So easy, and a great use for those alpha stickers for a non-scrapbooker like me.

Along those same lines, I used one of the larger 4×6 journaling cards to create a topper for a slightly bigger gift box. The red cardstock was this time added to the box lid to cover the manufacturer labels that I didn’t want to show, and on top of that I layered a piece of the gold foiled transparency sheet. I added an enamel dot to Rudolph’s nose, and once again stacked the journaling card onto cardstock to give it the strength to stand up to foam dots. Gold deco photo corners and a slim gift tag created from some of my smaller scraps finish up this design.

In my current holiday “scrappy” state of mind, I am still attempting to use up the rest of these pretty Paper House things…. and more gift box toppers have entered the scene. I am, however, still baffled at how paper seems to multiple when you’re not looking, and is near impossible to actually use up. I’m going to try, though. Just to win this one time!

I do have step by step tutorials for these projects up on the Therm O Web blog, if you’d like to learn more. Click HERE for the cards, and HERE for the gift box toppers.

Happy weekend!

Birthday Birdies with Sizzix

Hello Sweeties! Happy Friday! Well, we made it, my friends. School is over!

AudreyPettit Sizzix BirdyTagCard5
Graduation is still over a week away, but in the mean time, there is much to do.  I’ve got my family coming in, and we’ve got preparations and rehearsal and so much more to think about. It’s a crazy time, but oh…. is my Little Miss ever happy.

AudreyPettit Sizzix BirdyTagCard2
Besides graduation, this past week has been super busy with birthdays in our house. Now as many of you know, one of my most favorite parts of a birthday is the packages! I do love me some pretty packages. So today, I thought I would share the sweet little tag and bag I put together for my bestie, Joanne, who loves nature and animals and all things yellow.

AudreyPettit Sizzix BirdyTagCard3
I knew Joanne would melt over these adorable little birds, and I have to say, I’m pretty crazy about them, too. They are from a new Sizzix stamp and die set by Doodlebug Designs, and they are full of Doodlebug-y cuteness. I stamped the birds on watercolor paper, and colored them with my Distress markers. The sentiment is also from the same set. I used a tag die set from Tim Holtz, and some border dies from Stephanie Barnard, too.

AudreyPettit Sizzix BirdyTagCard4
And the tag actually opens like a card base, which is a little bit of a fun surprise. I’ve got the full tutorial up on the Sizzix blog today, if you’d like to learn more.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Sending you love and hugs from me and my big graduate!

Pretty in Pink with Sizzix

AudreyPettit Sizzix MixedMediaHappyBirthdayTag

Recently, a little friend of mine celebrated her 4th birthday. Like most girls that age, this little friend loves all things girly and pink. So for her gift wrap, I put together a super sweet and princess-y gift tag using my favorite Sizzix tag die and lots of new dies from Tim Holtz’s winter release.

AudreyPettit Sizzix MixedMediaHappyBirthdayTag3
It’s seriously hard to pick a favorite from the new Alterations line up…. but I definitely used a few of them here. Soft cream hearts die cut from the new Heartfelt Bigz die. So love that there are 11 different sizes and shapes of hearts to choose from on one die. A personalized number 4 made with the new Alphanumeric Thinlits set. And gorgeous lattice work cut with the new Mixed Media Thinlits.

AudreyPettit Sizzix MixedMediaHappyBirthdayTag2
I’ve got more detailed instructions and supplies up on the Sizzix blog today, if you’d like to learn more.

AudreyPettit Sizzix MixedMediaHappyBirthdayTag4
Thanks so much for stopping by! We’re enjoying our second “snow day” here, although it really is more ice than snow. Regardless, the little Missy and I did mange to do a wee bit of sledding yesterday, and we built a snowman, too. They say we might get a little more snow yet tonight. I say, bring it!

Love Treats with Sizzix

Audrey Pettit Sizzix LoveTreatTopper

When my kiddos were still wee tiny, I really looked forward to this time of the year. Some years I would make handmade Valentine’s for them to pass out in class, but mostly, my kids liked to pick out the themed store-bought variety based on their current favorite passion, like Barbie and Disney Princesses, Pokemon, Knock Knock Jokes, and Star Wars. How I loved watching them select the perfect Valentine for each classmate. Helped them tape on that little piece of candy. Lent a hand in crafting the best shoebox mailbox in anticipation of all the fabulous cards they would soon receive.

Audrey Pettit Sizzix LoveTreatTopper2These days, we don’t do much for Valentine’s, but I couldn’t let the day pass without putting together a few special treats for my sweets. After all, what’s Valentine’s Day without chocolate? And this recycled plastic packaging can hold a lot of it. Perfecto!

Audrey Pettit Sizzix LoveTreatTopper3I added a large paper doily to the inside of the box and wrapped the outside with a strip of pretty paper. Made a fancy tag to dress it all up using embossing powder and stamps, scraps of paper, and lots of fabulous Sizzix dies. I was inspired by my sweet bloggy friend, Alex, to break out my old watercolor paints. And by Yvonne, who has taught us how to rock everything gold. Thank you, ladies, for pushing me out of my comfort zone!

Audrey Pettit Sizzix LoveTreatTopper4I am in love with that love phrase. The little cupid, too. You can find out more about them, and my project, today on the Sizzix blog.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friends! Wishing you all a wonderful weekend. Anyone else planning on gluing themselves to the Olympics, like me?

Sizzix Die Cutting Supplies

Countdown to Creativity with Tim Holtz

Have you seen the BIG news?

Tim Holtz has pre-released three new dies ahead of CHA. The most popular Sizzix design of all time, Tattered Florals, will be available in a new bigger Bigz XL Jumbo size. But that’s not all. Two complementary dies, Sizzlits Decorative Strip Spring Greenery die and Bigz Garden Green die, will complement the Tattered Florals die. They are available for pre-order at your local retailer!

jumbotatteredflorals sq

To help get you inspired and ready for the new dies to hit the store shelves, the Sizzix design team has lined up a wide array of projects!  Several times a week throughout the month Sizzix will be sharing a link to one of the designer’s blogs featuring a fabulous project showcasing the new dies. Today I am up, sharing how to use the new florals to create beautiful gift wrap, just in time for the holidays, and perfect for any time of year.

Audrey Pettit Sizzix JumboTatteredFlorals JoyGiftbox

Audrey Pettit Sizzix JumboTatteredFlorals JoyGiftbox3The Tattered Florals die has long been my favorite Sizzix die, so I was super excited to hear Tim was releasing a larger version. Such a beautiful blossom, isn’t it? And so much fun to make! The new Jumbo die comes with four different flowers and two leaves, for endless combinations. And since it’s a steel-rule die, it will cut many different materials, for even more creative possibilities.

Audrey Pettit Sizzix JumboTatteredFlorals JoyGiftboxTut1Of course the die will cut paper, as always, but it will cut much more than that, too. For my blossom, I added in corrugated cardboard, white cotton fabric, and rugged natural linen. You could also try acetate or transparencies, thin sheet metals, cork, chipboard, wood veneer, and more.

Audrey Pettit Sizzix JumboTatteredFlorals JoyGiftboxTut2Like sparkle? Try applying iCraft adhesive sheets to cardstock, and die cut your favorite shapes. Once the shapes are cut, peel off the liner….

Audrey Pettit Sizzix JumboTatteredFlorals JoyGiftboxTut3…and cover with glitter, or mica, flocking, or foil.

If you like things on the shabby side, like I do, now is the time to grunge up your die cuts with paint, Distress inks, and a good scrunch in your hand.

Audrey Pettit Sizzix JumboTatteredFlorals JoyGiftbox2And then build your flower, adding layers and textures and lots of pretty detail.

Audrey Pettit Sizzix JumboTatteredFlorals JoyGiftbox4It’s just the perfect size for adding to a gift, in this case, a simple brown paper package wrapped up in ribbon and twine. I added a band of patterned paper under the trim and a sweet wooden tag, both from BasicGrey’s 25th & Pine collection.

Audrey Pettit Sizzix JumboTatteredFlorals JoyGiftbox5Then I tucked a few branches die cut from the new Bigz Garden Greens Die around the flower, and topped it all off with a big brown vintage button in the center.

Audrey Pettit Sizzix JumboTatteredFlorals JoyGiftbox6Hope I’ve given you some creative ideas for the fabulous new Tim Holtz dies. Be sure to tell your local retailer to pre-order them for you now! You can learn more about these amazing new dies on Tim’s blog here, or  here at ‪#‎Sizzix‬: http://www.sizzix.com/shop/th-tattered-floral-2013.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful day!

25th & Pine Packages

BasicGrey | 25th + PineSeems as though I’ve got a theme going this year. I believe Christmas 2013 is going to be the year of the kraft paper gift wrap. I just can’t seem to get enough of the stuff.

AudreyPettit BG 25th&Pine GiftWrapLast year I went with solid white wrap, and the year before was red. But this year, I’m all about the kraft.

AudreyPettit BG 25th&Pine GiftWrap2 I think it works great for every person on my gift giving list, male or female, young and old alike. Better yet, kraft paper is inexpensive, and it is so easy and fun to dress up to fit each recipient using just a few basic scrapbook supplies that we all have on hand. Here I wrapped up my packages and then gave them a personalized touch using adorable 25th & Pine patterned papers and embellishments.

AudreyPettit BG 25th&Pine GiftWrap3Love the playful feel of these packages, perfectly suited for their intended recipients. Kraft paper can be fun, whimsical, natural, or elegant…whatever you want it to be. I’ve got more directions and a supply list for these cuties up on the BasicGrey blog today, if you’d like to learn more.

AudreyPettit BG 25th&Pine GiftWrap4

And tomorrow, stop back for more wrapping ideas using kraft paper, this time with an elegant and glamorous twist, that I made for the Sizzix blog using some secret new Tim Holtz dies that I’m super excited to share with you all!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful day!

Inspiration Blog Hop with Authentique and Scor-Pal

Hi everyone! It’s going to be a fun week at Authentique. Hope you’ll join us all this week as Authentique Paper and Scor-Pal  team up to bring you tons of inspiration using Authentique Paper and Scor-Pal products!

Many of you know by now of my love for pretty packages, and that I’m always on the lookout for new ways to creatively wrap up gifts. So today I’m sharing another fun packaging idea, a pair of small envelope-flap gift boxes created with Authentique’s new Natural collection. These little boxes are sooo quick and easy to put together, with the help of Scor-Pal’s amazing scoring tools and just a few scrappy supplies.
 AudreyPettit-Natural-TakeNoteFlapBoxes6

These flap boxes are perfect for packaging relatively thin gift items, like CD’s and DVD’s, books, jewelry, photos, or gift cards. The smallest box was even perfect for wrapping up a bit of cash for my son’s recent 18th birthday. Once you learn the basic technique, you can easily change up the size of the box to hold any number of items. Just the size of the starting paper will vary…the process is the same. I have the complete step-by-step directions up on the Authentique blog, if you’d like to learn more.

AudreyPettit-Natural-TakeNoteFlapBoxes8The finished boxes look great with the flaps side-up, like on my larger box, or down. Once my boxes were constructed, I had fun adding belly-band paper strips and twine ties. Then I layered in a few extra details from the Natural embellishments.

AudreyPettit-Natural-TakeNoteFlapBoxes7

The smaller box is made from one of the papers from the 6×6 Bundle and is dressed with a journaling card and word strip cut from the Enhancements 12×12 sheet. I simply trimmed the round quote block from the paper and adhered it directly to the box, while the word strip was added with foam adhesive for a bit of dimension. Buttons and a sticker from the Elements Sticker sheet finish things off.

AudreyPettit-Natural-TakeNoteFlapBoxes10

The larger box was crafted from 12×12 paper, and got a swing tag made from another journaling card from the Enhancements sheet. I added more buttons and Elements stickers and lace and machine stitched for extra embellishment. A large beautiful flower from Petaloo adds a final touch.

April Showers Bring May Flowers

If that old saying about April showers is true,  with the beginning of the month of May, it’s time to start thinking about planting some flowers. So today we thought it would be fun to showcase our own garden of creativity with our Fern and Forest Girl Paper Flower Kit on the Little Yellow Bicycle blog.

If you have not had a chance to play with any of the Paper Crafting Kits, then you are missing out. I think they are just about the most versatile embellishment package out there. The Fern & Forest Girl Kit alone contains 88 pieces of die cut shapes, banners, rosettes, and brads. Just think of all the combinations you could put together, like this sweet flower I made to dress up a simple gift box.
AudreyPettit LYB Fern Girl Beautiful Gift Box
With all the layer-building shapes available in Little Yellow Bicycle’s Paper Crafting Kits, creative possibilities are endless. Use them individually, or mix and match pieces to create truly one-of-a-kind embellishments. Simply start with one of the largest die cuts, and then keep adding pieces. Adhere some of the layers with foam dots to create even more eye-catching depth, and don’t be afraid to alter the shapes to suit your project. I added a bit of machine stitching and paint to my flower and leaves for a truly unique look.
AudreyPettit LYB Fern Girl Beautiful Gift Box2
Nestled my flower onto a die cut doily which is tied with trim onto a small gift box. I used one of the papers from the 6×6 Paper Pad to dress up the lid of my simple box. The bow and flower easily slip right off and can be used by the recipient again. No fuss, no muss.
AudreyPettit LYB Fern Girl Beautiful Gift Box3
I hope my happy little flower brings some real flowers this way……..and perhaps a bit of sunshine. After teasing us with a few sneak peeks, spring has completely disappeared on us again. Maybe that old saying really is true. One can dream! 🙂

Authentique & Taylored Expressions Bloghop

tayloredexpressionshop

Hello everyone, and welcome to day one of the Authentique & Taylored Expressions Bloghop! We are so excited that you are joining us! You should have arrived from Carole’s blog, at Mother’s Little Helper. If not, you may want to start at the Authentique blog, so you don’t miss a thing.

AudreyPettit_Grace_TayloredExpressions_MotherGiftSet6

I am so tickled to share my fun project with you today! I made a sweet gift set for Mom with a card and matching gift box. This is Authentique’s Grace collection, filled with beautiful prints and sentiments celebrating all those wonderful mothers out there. So perfect for Mother’s Day!

AudreyPettit_Grace_TayloredExpressions_MotherGiftSet3

Taylored Expressions has so many fabulous stamps and dies to choose from that it’s really hard to pick a favorite, but for my gift set, I used the Cloud Border and Rosy Posey dies. I just fell in love with the Cloud Border die the minute I saw it. Not only does it make perfect clouds, but it also creates a fun and funky scalloped border, like mine here.

AudreyPettit_Grace_TayloredExpressions_MotherGiftSet2

I used the Rosy Posey dies to make some super shabby matching flowers for both the card and the gift box. Simply die cut several flowers, soak them in water briefly to soften the paper, smash them up into a tiny ball, then smooth them out again. Once they are dry, you can layer them together…

AudreyPettit_Grace_TayloredExpressions_MotherGiftSet4

…or use them as is, with a button on top.

AudreyPettit_Grace_TayloredExpressions_MotherGiftSet2

I also die cut several leaves from the same die to tuck around my flowers and bow.

AudreyPettit_Grace_TayloredExpressions_MotherGiftSet5

I hope you enjoyed my little Mother’s Day set, and now I will send you on your way! Here is the hop order for both days of fun.
