2019 Sizzix Tim Holtz Christmas- Layered Pine

It feels like quite some time ago that Sizzix released their Chapter 3 holiday collection. And although I’ve shared all my fall and Halloween projects from this release, I am finally diving into the winter holidays here on my blog today. So with that, I am very happy to share my first Christmas project of the year featuring the Sizzix Tim Holtz Chapter 3 dies.

You all may remember back when Chapter 3 first came out that I was given a secret assignment to create some fabric projects with the Bigz dies from this collection… and that challenge was happily accepted. One of my favorite things about the holidays is seeing all the pretty decorations and shiny bright gift packages with big ribbons and bows. I love it when the outside of the package is as much of a gift as the inside. So for my first project, I made a festive fabric drawstring gift bag with the adorable Layered Pine die.

Of course the Layered Pine is a Bigz die and easily cuts heavier materials like the cotton denim and wool felt I used here. And since the die cuts two tree pieces (the larger base tree and the smaller accent), it’s easy to mix and match to really add definition to the layers. I placed the trees at the bottom of the bag, and then went around the edges with hand-embroidered blanket stitch. Stitched on buttons give the look of ornaments and add even more texture and dimension.

I used a pretty seam binding ribbon to tie off the bag. And of course added some favorite pom pom trim to the bottom edge and ribbon ends. Because everything is better with pom poms, in my book. 😀

If you didn’t get a chance to see yet, here is the full reveal of the Sizzix Tim Holtz Chapter 3 holiday release, along with all sorts of amazing project ideas to jump start your holiday makes!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Butterfly Boxes- A Sizzix Tutorial

Hi Friends! Happy Monday once again!
Hope you all have had a wonderful weekend. Things are usually pretty quiet around here, but not these days. I’ve got a full house right now with both kiddos and even a wee puppy here to keep me company, and lots to do before school starts up in a few short weeks. Summer is working it’s way toward the end, and as always, it seems there is suddenly much to get done….meetings and appointments and doctors and shopping…. times two for me this year, as I will have both of my munchkins in college. As a matter of fact, the wee Missy Nik and I are off to orientation today.
Wish me luck! This ol’ mom is going to need it!

This weekend, I found myself in somewhat of a gift wrapping emergency. Very last-minute plans were made to get together to celebrate two summer birthdays for my friends Amy and Susie, and although I had the gifts, I was totally unprepared with the wrapping.

What I needed was something small for the cute purse charm key rings I was gifting. Something along the lines of a jewelry box, and not the big gift bags I tend to keep on hand. Something, too, that I could put together quickly, last minute as this was. So I pulled out one of my favorite pillow box dies from Sizzix to create some very easy gift packaging, and then dressed them up with new summer products from Sizzix, including stamps, dies, and even new paper, too.

I’ve got a quick tutorial to share, in case you’re in ever in need of any last minute quick and easy gift packaging ideas.

1. Gather your supplies. For this project, I used the new 3-D Butterflies Bigz Die from the Where Women Cook collection. The patterned paper is from the same line and comes in a pad called Have A Little Party. The birthday stamp and tag are from the new Tag Sentiments #2 Framelits w/Stamps set by Lori Whitlock. And for small gift items, you can’t beat the Fancy Pillow Box Die.

2. Die cut the pillow box from patterned paper. You may notice that the paper pad is perfectly sized to fit the Sizzix Bigz dies, so no pre-cutting of paper is even needed. To die cut with Bigz dies, use this Sizzix die cutting sandwich: Standard Cutting Pad, Die (cutting side up), paper, Standard Cutting Pad.

3. Fold the pillow box along the crease lines. Place gift item inside, and thread the box with twine or ribbon through the die cut holes. I used a tiny piece of red-lined tape on the end of the flap to keep it snug against the box. Then just fold in the ends of the box to close.

4. Die cut the 3-D Butterfly from patterned paper from the pad, and assemble the butterflies by slipping one shape into the slit on the second. No adhesive is even necessary.

5. Tuck one wing of the butterfly behind the twine tie. Add a foam dot behind the butterfly to secure it in place.

6. Stamp the sentiment onto watercolor cardstock, and die cut it with the matching tag die.

7. Color the inside of the tag shape with Distress ink.

So quick and easy! And best thing is, this pillow box die is on sale right now, through the end of the month at Sizzix.com. I’ll link you to all the products below.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful day!

Just a Little Something with Sizzix

Hello, hello, Friends, and happy Monday to you all! Today I have some Sizzix inspiration to share with you. A pretty fall-themed gift packaging idea made with amazing new dies from Stephanie Barnard and Tim Holtz.

AudreyPettit Sizzix LittleSomethingBox
With all the fancy gift wrapping options out there, I still gravitate to plain kraft paper. It never fails… I am just a sucker for brown paper packages. To me, they are classic and timeless, work perfectly for any event and any person on your gift-giving list, and are super easy to dress up or down to fit any occasion.

AudreyPettit Sizzix LittleSomethingBox2
To celebrate fall birthdays this month, I thought it would be fun to create a fall-inspired gift packaging using some of the amazing new Alterations dies by Tim Holtz. This is the gorgeous new Layered Leaf die and texture plate, along with the new Jumbo Tattered Pine Cones. Both of these dies are a nice large size and are just perfect for decorating larger projects, like this big gift box.

AudreyPettit Sizzix LittleSomethingBox3
I really love how the leaves turned out. Such pretty color and really amazing texture, thanks to the matching embossing folder that comes with the set. I dipped the leaves in lots of fall-colored Distress inks, then coated them in Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint and Rusty Hinges Glitter. The fun little tag and sentiment come from the new Tags Framelits Die and Stamp Set by Stephanie Barnard.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Hello, hello friends, and happy Friday! Today is an especially happy day in our neck of the woods, as it’s an early release day for us. School is out at noon, and I get to spend the whole, long, lazy afternoon with my little Miss. I’m hoping to surprise her with lunch out, just the two of us. I love being able to get a jump start on the weekend like that.

AudreyPettit RubyRockIt CelebrateGiftBag

Today I wanted to share one last guest designer project for Ruby Rock It. Just a quick and easy gift wrap belly-band I put together to dress up a kraft gift bag, made from a strip of patterned paper and a fussy cut journaling card and label. V-notches cut into the ends of some scraps of burlap paper create instant banners to tuck under the journaling card. I think the whole thing looks like a prize ribbon, don’t you?

AudreyPettit RubyRockIt CelebrateGiftBag3I wrapped string around the bag, then added a big shabby flower I made using Tim Holtz’s fabulous Tattered Florals die for Sizzix. Topped the flower with another of the pretty chalkboard labels, and added a few candy dots for a final detail.

There you have it! A few fun Country Cookin’ projects. I hope you enjoyed! And if you haven’t had a chance yet, be sure to leave a comment on this post to get entered in my prize drawing. Ruby Rock It has generously donated an entire set of their beautiful Essence East Coast collection for me to give to one of you (sorry, not including the album). I’ll close the drawing tonight at midnight and will announce the winner here on my blog tomorrow.

Enjoy Today with Sizzix

Hello, hello! Happy Monday, Friends! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. We’re waking up to another gray and rainy day here. Just one more day in an endless chain, it seems. At this point, I’m wondering who has hijacked our summer, and if they will kindly bring it back..

AudreyPettit Sizzix EnjoyTodayAlteredBox

Today I have a quick project to share with you that I made this weekend for the Sizzix blog. An altered gift box for a friend’s upcoming birthday, dressed with pretty patterned papers and trim, and decorated with my favorite Sizzix decorative strip dies.

AudreyPettit Sizzix EnjoyTodayAlteredBox2

For my gift box, I started with a plain box from one of those big box chain stores. I covered the lid with pretty papers, then added a big bow, thanks to the help of the Bow-Tied Decorative Strip Die by Tim Holtz. This month, the Sizzix team is partnering with Authentique. This is their beautiful Harmony collection.

AudreyPettit Sizzix EnjoyTodayAlteredBox3

Once I had my bows die cut and assembled, I simply staggered the shapes, stacking them together and adhering in the center with tacky glue. A pretty button in the center finishes the bow perfectly. Then for a fun accent, I tucked a few banners die cut using the Tattered Curvy Banners Decorative Strip Die around the bow. I’ve got a few more tips and instructions up on the Sizzix blog, if you’d like to learn more.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friends! I have to admit, this is going to be a tough week for me. The boy goes back to college on Friday. I miss him already!

P.S. I’m super excited to be able to share a special discount code with you all, good for 15% off of your regular priced purchase on Sizzix.com. This discount is good through the end of the year. Just use code SZ10B at checkout. (Sorry Sizzix only ships within the US at this time.)

Authentique Paper & Pretty Pink Posh- A “Radiant” Gift Set

This week on the Authentique blog, we are showcasing projects created with our newest summer collections along with lots of pretty sequins from our product partner,  Pretty Pink Posh!

As many of you know by now, I am a huge fan of pretty packaging, and I love to make my own gift sets using my stash of papercrafting supplies.

It’s so easy to do, and is way less expensive than store-bought gift wrap. Better yet, with handmade packaging, you can customize your gifts to perfectly suit any theme or occasion. For my mother’s recent birthday, I put together this bright and happy Radiant set that totally captures her bright and happy spirit.

One of my favorite tricks with gift wrap is to alter an existing plain box, like I did here. It just takes a minute or two to add patterned paper to the top and sides of the lid, then dress them up with die cuts, bows, and a bit of trim.

I added in some of the new Authentic Life Cards, and pretty die cut bows made with the Tim Holtz Bow Tied decorative strip die. Love how the sequins turn this gift set into an instant party.

You can find more details about today’s project on the Authentique blog. Be sure to leave a comment while you are there to get entered in this week’s fabulous prize drawing, too. Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you all had a wonderful long holiday weekend!

Authentic Life Cards Inspiration Week- A Harmony Gift Set

On the blog this week, we are featuring one of Authentique’s BRAND NEW products…. the Authentic Life Cards. These cards come in 4 of Authentique’s new summer collections- “Favorite,” “Classique: Pretty,” “Radiant,” and “Harmony.” And all this week, the team will be sharing lots of creative ways to incorporate these fabulous new cards into your scrapbooking, card making, home decor projects, and more.
Many of you know by now my love for pretty packaging. It really is simple to add paper and ribbon to a plain old gift box, and dress them with matching accessories to fit whatever theme or style suits you. Your friends and family will love all the extra “effort” you went to, and you will love how easy it truly is.

This sweet gift set using the Harmony collection is tailor-made for my friend, Paige’s, birthday this week. The colors are so her.

I stuck with yellow and blue prints here in her favorite color palette, and added similar elements throughout to keep things uniform.
Die cut bows and ticket stubs, candy dots and hand-stamped banners. I also threw in several of the fabulous new Authentic Life Cards, with a few different ways of using them.

I’ve shared just a few tips and ideas for using the new Authentic Life Cards on the Authentique blog today, if you’d like to learn more. And what inspiration week would be complete without a GIVEAWAY?
We want to give away a couple of sets of our new Authentic Life Cards. Simply join us on the Authentique blog every day this week, and leave us a comment letting us know what you would use these cards for. We will pick and announce a winner this weekend. Bonus entries to those who share our posts on facebook throughout the week!
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friends! Wishing you all a wonderful day!

Sizzix Tutorial- Hearts Framelits Gift Box

Audrey Pettit Sizzix HeartsFramelitsBox

I am a big fan of making my own gift boxes, packages, and wraps. Homemade wrapping just seems so much more personal than store-bought, and I love being able to customize my gifts to perfectly fit each recipient for whatever occasion may be at hand.  Recently I came across a really cute box idea on Pinterest made from oval die cuts, and I was immediately smitten. Although I don’t have any oval dies at home I was able to recreate a very similar look using something I do have on hand, the Framelits Hearts die set.

Audrey Pettit Sizzix HeartsFramelitsBox2

This sweet little box is so quick and easy, and requires only a few basic supplies to put together. I love that I was able to adapt the project to use dies that I already have in my collection. Don’t have oval or heart dies? Try using any larger circle, label, or frame dies you do own. The same basic process will work with any number of shapes and sizes.

Audrey Pettit Sizzix HeartsFramelitsBox3

This is BasicGrey’s beautiful new Grand Bazaar collection, by the way. So bright and happy and bold and exotic, all wrapped into one. And I have the complete step-by-step tutorial for my Hearts Framelits gift box up on the Sizzix blog, if you’d like to learn more.

remember the fallen

On this special day, I want to take a moment to say to all our veterans and servicemen and women, whether at home or abroad, active, reserves, or retired…
Thank you! Thank you for your duty, sacrifice and selflessness….you will not be forgotten.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb RubyRockItGiftSetHi Sweeties! As some of you may already know, I am off at the beach, celebrating the 50th birthday of my very dear friend, Joanne. AudreyPettit Thermoweb RubyRockItGiftSet4I made a great big bow and tag for one of my packages, and a pretty sleeve belly band for another. All dressed up with East Coast papers, journaling cards, printed transparencies, and stamps.

Suave Gift Card Envelopes with Authentique

These last two days have been pure spring here. Yesterday even reached a high of 78. What bliss! I tried to pack as much outside activity as I could into this little window of time, with long walks around the lake and lounging in my old camp chair in the sunshine on the back deck. Of course today we’re back to cold, gray, and rainy, but it sure was heaven while it lasted. I hope you all have had a spot of spring touch your neck of the woods, too.

AudreyPettit-Suave-DapperGiftCardEnvelopesToday, the girls and I are getting together for our weekly crafty play date. This time, we’re trying our hand at kind of a new medium for us…paper mache. I’ve got the tearing of paper and soaking in paste down pat. It’s just the building of the form underneath that is the great unknown. We are trying to make folk art bunnies, but I must admit…so far, mine looks like a bottle of salad dressing. 🙂

AudreyPettit-Suave-DapperGiftCardEnvelopes4Hopefully, my other paper crafting skills are a wee bit more recognizable. Like these fun gift card envelopes I made this week for the Authentique blog featuring their adorable new guy collection, Suave.

AudreyPettit-Suave-DapperGiftCardEnvelopes3I love giving gift cards for birthdays, holidays, and pretty much any special occasion.  But what I don’t particularly care for are the little envelopes that most gift cards come with.  They’re too plain, and quite frankly…downright boring. And who wants boring? Especially when it is so easy to create your own custom gift wrap, in very little time, with only a few basic supplies.

Love that you can quickly change the look and theme to these by switching up the colors and papers you use. It’s so easy, and fun, too. I’ve got the complete step-by-step directions up on the Authentique blog, if you’d like to learn more.
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friends! Wishing you all a wonderful day!
