Tim Holtz Sizzix Chapter 2- Rupert

Happy Tuesday, crafty friends! Today I am back with another project that I made for the Tim Holtz Sizzix 2021 Chapter 2 Reveal. This time, it’s a whimsical, over-sized card featuring the new Colorize character, Rupert.

Isn’t he adorable? I just love these playful Colorize critters, and am so happy to have this quirky dragon to add to my collection. Rupert has been die cut from a combination of Tim’s kraft stock Distress cardstock and Distress watercolor cardstock that was colored with Distress Oxide and Ink. I really like mixing the two mediums when I’m building images, as I feel like that adds a variety of visual textures to the finished project. You can see that Rupert is a nice large size, too, which makes him quite the statement piece for larger cards or altered art or even home decor. Couldn’t you just picture him in a kids room?

Do you see how Rupert’s hands are perfectly poised to grab onto something? So I thought why not give him a potted cactus to hold? Perfect excuse to add in a background scene using the Quirky Cactus die set, another new addition to the Chapter 2 release. Once again, the cacti were die cut from a combination of kraft stock and inked watercolor paper. The cactus in the pot was too tall to fit my scene in it’s original form, but the beauty of die cuts is you can alter them to fit your needs. So a quick whack off the bottom cut the potted cactus down to size.

Rupert was also too large for my scene, so he got a bit of a trim, as well. I added a big ribbon bow and an Idea-ology sentiment sticker. The background is Distress watercolor paper that has been inked and stenciled and coated with Distress Crackle Paste. I am a little bit obsessed with the texture of that paste, I must say.

This was such a fun project to make, and it really brings a smile to my face. Such a whack-a-do design, with a dragon frolicking in his cactus garden…. but that’s what makes it so fun. Every once in awhile it’s wonderful to just let your imagination go.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a fabulous day!

Tim Holtz 2021 Sizzix Chapter 1- Carrot Bunny

Happy Monday, crafty friends! Hope you all had a lovely weekend, and enjoyed your Valentine’s Day and perhaps an extra day off today for President’s Day. Today I am excited to share my last project made for the Tim Holtz 2021 Sizzix Chapter 1 release. A fun and happy springtime card made with the new Carrot Bunny and Bubbling die sets.

This Carrot Bunny set is simply adorable! I love how the arms are notched so that you can tuck the carrots underneath… or in this case, one of my rabbits is holding the ribbon and one is popping out of his little hidey-hole. I added a trio of carrots to my arrangement, slipping them into the framework of the card. The Bubbling background is layered onto Tim Holtz Dapper patterned paper, and I used a craft knife to cut through one bubble as a window for the rabbit.

I used a Big Chat sticker and the new Alphanumeric Bold die set to create a spring sentiment banner for the inside of the card.

I had such fun making projects for the Chapter 1 release! There are just so many fabulous new sets to play with. Already looking forward to Chapter 2!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Diecember at Simon Says Stamp

Happy Friday, crafty friends! It’s that holiday time of year when sales and deals are flying everywhere, and today kicks off an exciting promotion at Simon Says Stamp for those of you who love the Tim Holtz brand. Simply purchase any Tim Holtz product, and you will receive an exclusive Diecember gift for FREE….. this beautiful Tim Holtz Feathered Cardinal die set.

This stunning Feathered Cardinal die set is based on the popularity of the Feathered Friends set that Tim released earlier this year. I absolutely adored that set, and am so thrilled to add this cardinal to my collection. If you would like to snag this set, too, head on over quickly to Simon Says Stamp, because this exclusive freebie is only available with the purchase of any Tim Holtz branded products, while supplies last.

Like the Feathered Friends set, this Thinlits set die cuts multiple pieces that you stack and build, and I love how those layers allow you to add dimension and easily use different colors together, like the black section around his beak and eye. For my project, I die cut all the pieces from Distress Watercolor cardstock and then watercolored them with Distress Inks. I glued all the pieces flat together, except for the wing, which was popped up with a bit of foam tape for dimension. And then a dot of Glossy Accents was added to bring out some shine in the eye.

The background was also inked in Distress, and lightly stamped with musical notes. I love how Distress Crackle Texture Paste adds a stucco-like finish to inked surfaces, so I added that to the corners and layered the panel onto Kraft Stock cardstock. A stamped sentiment, a big puffy bow, and die cut Pine Branch accents finish the design.

Be sure to head over to Simon Says Stamp to score your Diecember Feathered Cardinal Thinlits die set before time runs out! I have a feeling these sets are going to go fast!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all an amazing weekend ahead!

An Unfortunate Ending with Ranger Ink

Happy Wednesday, crafty friends! I’m back today with a spooky fun Halloween project share that I made for the Ranger Ink blog this week featuring new dies from Tim Holtz and the amazing new Distress Ink color, Crackling Campfire.

This is the Skelly Colorize Thinlits die set from Tim Holtz, and it is by far one of my top favorite sets from the 2020 Sizzix Chapter 3 release. This set has so much incredible detail in all the layers. It really is amazing what can be done these days with dies. I used a mixture of Distress kraft stock cardstock and Distress watercolor cardstock to build my skull, and finished off with lots of Distress ink, crackle texture paste and grit paste for a really grungy, been in the ground a long time, finish.

The 5×5 card base is layers of cardstock and patterned paper. I used ink, spray, and stencils to create the worn background you see, using a combination of my favorite brown and grey Distress inks mixed with the new Crackling Campfire. I absolutely adore how you can get bright orange, like the bouquet flowers I sprayed and coated with Distress glitter, or more rusty orange, like the background… or even the soft pastel orange of the mummy cloth bow…all from one color of ink.

I’ve got the full step-by-step tutorial for this card over on the Ranger Ink Project Page, if you’d like to learn more.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Good Heart with Ranger Ink

Happy Monday, crafty friends! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and that your week is getting off to a great start. Today I’m sharing a mixed media art tag that I made for the Ranger Ink Projects Page featuring the fabulous new color of Distress, Speckled Egg.

To make this tag, I began with two graduated sizes of tag shapes which were inked and sprayed and stenciled, and finally stacked together for lots of great dimension. I think I’ve mentioned being obsessed with creating old-world stucco finishes with Ranger crackle texture paste, and I’ve done that here once again. I really do love that paste. I dab it on thick with my fingertip, and then let it do it’s thing. Some areas get heavily sanded for a plaster-like finish, and some stay as is with lots of great crackle effect.

I added some greenery and  felt “branches” using the new Tim Holtz Festive Stems Bigz die. The Idea-ology paper doll was colored lightly with Distress Oxide inks and then nestled into the greens. Love how they look like they are towering over the children’s heads, like some secret garden gone wild.

The tags were tied with ribbon and trim, and a quick sentiment was added with an Idea-ology quote band, painted and buffed to a polished shine.
If you would like to learn more about this layered Distress tag, you can find all the instructions and a complete step-by-step tutorial over on the Ranger Ink Projects Page.

Christmas Joy with Sizzix & Tim Holtz Chapter 3

Happy Monday, crafty friends! I’m excited to kick off the week with a little holiday card project that I made for the Sizzix blog The Making Journal featuring some fabulous new Tim Holtz dies from the Chapter 3 release. I am a sucker for Santa Claus images, and this guy right here from the Papercut Christmas #1 die set has truly stolen my heart with his retro look. Isn’t he quite the jolly fellow?

I think Santa’s mid-century modern 50’s vibe works perfectly with the geometric shapes of the Triangles Stacked Tiles set. There are so many fun things you can do with simple shapes like these. Right away, I saw Christmas trees, and a banner is always a great idea for triangle shapes, as well.

I used Tiny Type alpha dies to add lettering to the banner, and the older Snowman Scene set to create the snowy border across the bottom of the card. Another new die set from chapter 3, Falling Stars, was used to add a topper to the largest stacked tree. Then layers of Distress Kraft Stock cardstock and Distress stamped watercolor paper finish the design.

I’ve got the complete step-by-step tutorial for this card up on the Sizzix Making Journal Blog, if you’d like to learn more.

Beside the Sea with Ranger Ink

Happy Friday, crafty friends, and welcome back to the blog! Summer is in full swing here today with this beach-inspired home decor project that I made this week for the Ranger Ink Project Page. This mixed-media piece is filled with sand and sea images and real seashells I’ve collected over the years, in a tropical summertime color palette of Distress Oxides, Inks, and new Embossing Glazes that I adore.

It seems like every time I go to the beach, I end up bringing home at least one container of shells. And most of the time, those shells sit in those little baggies or bottles for years, ignored. So happy I finally broke some of them out to add to this home decor plaque. I might not be making any actual trips to the beach anytime soon, but this brings back many happy memories and is a great way to incorporate some souvenirs into your decorating for the season.

I love the look of text print on just about anything. Adds some interest to an otherwise plain surface, like the background of this plaque frame. I simply added a layer of patterned paper to the wood plaque, and then proceeded to create an ocean view with lots of ink blending and masking, water droplets and the dimensional texture of Distress Crackle paste.

Then layers of coral branches and shells…. both real and paper versions. A bit of cheesecloth for extra texture, all finished off with a Tiny Type sentiment. Oh, how I long to be beside the sea! But perhaps for now, beachy decorations are the next best thing.

If you’d like to learn more about this project, I’ve got the complete step-by-step tutorial up on the Ranger Ink Project Page. Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a fabulous weekend!

Happy Bird Day with the Sizzix Making Journal

Happy Wednesday, crafty friends! I think I’ve mentioned that I’ve been on a bird kick lately, right? Well, today I have yet another tweet bird project to share.. this time a card that was posted this week on the Sizzix UK blog The Making Journal, featuring my favorite die sets from the Tim Holtz Chapter 2 release.

The adorable birds from the Feathered Friends Thinlits die set has by far been my favorite set from the spring release. I love that they can be colored in so many variations to create many different species of birds, and they all turn out so beautifully. The Funky Wreath die set is the perfect companion set for these birds, and once again I’ve added in a wreath on my project today. I love dressing up the wreaths with small extras, like flowers or ribbons or bows. On this card, I made a messy nest for the bird with some wonky “greens” and natural twine. And added in a hand-stamped sentiment banner to finish the design.

It was recently my mother’s birthday.  She loves bird images and nature scenes, so this card was made specially for her. She’s getting quite the bird collection going, I must say!

I’ve got all the details and the complete step-by-step tutorial for this project up on The Making Journal blog, if you’d like to learn more.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful week!

Happy Mother’s Day with Ranger Ink

Happy Saturday, crafty friends! This past week I had the great pleasure of creating a Mother’s Day project tutorial for the Ranger Ink Project Page. And since this is Mother’s Day weekend for those of us in the States, I wanted to share my project here with you, too.

This larger 5×7 card was created with my mother in mind. She loves bird images and nature scenes, so of course I thought these fabulous Tim Holtz birds from the Feathered Friends die set would be perfect for her. And in this larger size format, this card could be displayed as is, or placed into a standard 5×7 frame to be used as a home decor piece all year round.

I’ve become quite addicted to these birds. I think they are my top favorite set from Tim’s Chapter 2 2020 release. I often pair them with another favorite die set, Funky Wreath, and I’ve done that again here. Although these dies cut tradition round wreath shapes, I’ve found they can be easily manipulated into other forms when snipped apart and softened with a bit of water coloring. I added in some small die cut flowers from an older set, and personalized the card with a Tiny Type alphabet sentiment.

My mom has already received this card, so no spoilers here. Love you, Mom!

As always, I’ve got the complete step-by-step tutorial for this project up on the Ranger Ink Project Page, if you’d like to learn more.

A Huge Celebration with Ranger Ink

Hello, crafty friends! I hope you are doing well, staying strong, and keeping the faith through these difficult times. We are doing good… knock on wood. But I think when all of this is finally over, that will call for a huge celebration, like this card that I made for the Ranger Ink project page says.

Ranger just recently released a new edition to their Stickles glitter line, Stickles Glitter Gel. This new glitter gel comes in a variety of metallic colors and works perfectly with stencils, like I’ve done here. I always love the sparkle and shine of a good glitter project. And if you look closely, you can see that these new gels contain fine glitter mixed with larger sequin pieces, which makes this product different from anything else I’ve seen on the market.

I mixed the new glitter gel with a touch of Distress Ink in soft pink, and a large sentiment stamp from the Ranger LetterIt collection. The heart stencil is new to Ranger, too.

I’ve got the complete step-by-step tutorial for this card project up on the Ranger Ink project page, if you’d like to learn more.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Be well!
