So Fly with PhotoPlay Paper’s Camp Happy Bear

Happy Wednesday, crafty friends! It’s the last week of August already and starting to feel like the final days of summer are slipping us by. But before that happens, I wanted to share one last summery project with you. This cute card was made way back in January for the Creativation 2020 trade show featuring PhotoPlay Paper’s adorable Camp Happy Bear collection.

Now I don’t do much camping now, but in my younger days that was one of my favorite things to do. I loved to fish (of the catch and release variety), lounge at the water’s edge, and sit around the campfire…. so this fun collection, which reminds me of all those happy times, definitely warms my heart. I used a mixture of stickers and die cut ephemera to build this sweet scene. The background was inked in a gradient of pale green to yellow Distress inks to match the papers I chose. I pulled out my old Fiskars cloud and scalloped border punch to add details to the design.

Labor Day weekend is right around the corner, and you know what that means…..

It’s almost time for the spooks to begin!

Ahoy Mate with PhotoPlay Paper

Hello crafty friends, happy Monday to you! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! It was literally hot as blazes here in the heart of North Carolina over the past few days. No doubt that summer is in full swing. Perfect time to share this nautical card that I made for PhotoPlay Paper featuring their adorable Monterey Bay collection.

You all may have noticed this card on my blog header over the past few months, but I have actually been waiting for the warm weather to hit to share the full project (and that time is NOW). In fact I made this card for PhotoPlay back in January for Creativation, and it was probably my absolute favorite project that I got to make for the show. I mean come on!!! Look at that fantastic walrus in his little sailor suit! Could you not just die?

Layers of patterned papers mixed with border stickers, ephemera die cuts, and cardstock stickers from the kit. I do so love me a good nautical design. And growing up near the real Monterey Bay in California, this collection stirs up some nostalgia and childhood memories in the best possible way.

Did any of you grow up near the ocean? East coast or west coast? I have to say, having lived on both coasts, I’d be hard pressed to choose.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you a fantastic week ahead!

To My Tweetheart with Tim Holtz & Sizzix Chapter 2 Release

Hello, crafty friends! I hope everyone is keeping well! In just a couple of days from now, (on April 1st, to be precise) the Tim Holtz 2020 Sizzix Chapter 2 collection will be officially released. Chapter 2 has some of my favorite die sets from this year, including the adorable new characters in the Colorize line. And I am super excited to have been able to create a few samples using these new dies for Tim’s Facebook Live sneak peek and the Creativation show this past January. Today I wanted to share one of those projects with you… a sweet, or should I say “tweet”, card featuring the new Feathered Friends Thinlits die set.

Feathered Friends is a fabulous layered die set that creates two different bird images, and I absolutely love how these birds look watercolored, like I’ve done here. My little birdie friend was colored to look like one of my most favorite birds, the robin, using¬† a combo of brown, black, and orange Distress inks. He is perched in a nest that I made with twine and the new Funky Wreath die set. The wreath has also been watercolored in Distress, and then inlaid into the center of my embossed frame.

The framework panel was inked in a light shade of Distress and embossed with an older Texture Fade of Tim’s called Lace. I inked the raised areas again in a slightly darker color to call extra attention to all that beautiful texture. The wreath was then die cut from the center, watercolored in a variety of green Distress, and placed back into the opening. There are additional pieces of the wreaths that can be die cut separately, and several of those were used to bulk up the corner of the nest. The frame was layered onto¬† text print paper and backed with more patterned paper and sanded Distress kraft stock cardstock.

I added machine stitching around the edge of the card, and a jumble of natural twine in the nest. A simple stamped sentiment strip finished the design.

If you haven’t had a chance yet, you can see the entire Tim Holtz Chapter 2 release in the video above. Do you have any favorites? Anything on your must-have list?

Thanks so much for stopping by! I’ll be back on Wednesday the 1st with another Chapter 2 project to celebrate the release. Hope to see you then!

Creativation 2020- Distress Embossing Glaze with Ranger Ink

Happy Friday, crafty friends! Today I am sharing a card project that I made for the 2020 Ranger Ink Creativation booth featuring the new Tim Holtz Distress Embossing Glaze.

If you’re not familiar yet with the Distress Embossing Glaze, they are translucent embossing powders in the Distress line of colors. Because they are translucent, instead of opaque like many powders on the market, these new Glaze powders are perfect for layering and building up texture on your projects. I used two of the twelve colors released for Creativation for this card, Fossilized Amber and Peeled Paint. And those are the adorable new Bunny Hop rabbits from the Tim Holtz Sizzix Chapter 1 release.

I mentioned that the Glaze works wonderfully for building up layers, and you can see some of that here on this card. To begin the background, I started with Distress watercolor cardstock, and stamped a floral image from the Vines & Roses Stamper’s Anonymous set in clear embossing ink, which was then heat set with clear embossing powder. The panel was lightly inked with Distress and then swiped with an embossing ink pad all around the edges, leaving a roughly oval opening in the center. Peeled Paint Distress Embossing Glaze was added and melted. I then went around the the edge again with the embossing ink pad and added a second coat of Peeled Paint Glaze to add that extra darkness you see around the edges. I added water droplets to the center of the panel next using a Distress Sprayer, and then added Fossilized Amber Glaze to that.

I love that even with all those layers, you can still see the patterns and detailing underneath. And I can’t wait to play more with those rabbits!!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Any fun weekend plans?

Creativation 2020 with Photo Play Paper’s Tulla & Norbert

Hello gnomies, happy Sunday to you! It’s Creativation weekend! Such an exciting time for paper crafters with all the new products heading our way. I had the great pleasure of getting my hands on some of the new Photo Play Paper releases to create card samples for the show, and I can’t wait to share these new collections that are as cute as can be. First up today is Tulla & Norbert.

Gnomes have been super trendy these past few months, and that is continuing into the new year with this sweet spring-inspired collection. Love the colors in this one! Piled on lots of patterned papers for this card, adding in crisp white cardstock to help define all those layers. The rainbow background is one of the Cut-Apart cards, trimmed down to size. Then sticker and die cut ephemera details to finish the design.

Have you all been following along with the Creativation excitement? Any new immediate must-have favorites for you?
