2021 Christmas Card Project- Week 14

Happy Friday, crafty friends! As I mentioned in a previous post, from now until December I am on a mission to make at least one holiday card a week during a crafty Zoom session with my friend, Kathie. It’s one way to stay connected to friends and family during these quarantine days, and a great way to build up my stash of cards for the year at the same time. I am calling this my 2021 Christmas Card Project, and each week I hope to share my progress with you.

This week my friend Kathie was out of town, so there was no crafty play date… but I still wanted to keep on track for my weekly goal of making at least one holiday card. This week’s card features the adorable Merry Days collection by Crate Paper, which I’ve had in my stash for over a year and never used. And this was a fun challenge for me because it doesn’t use the typical card making supplies, but rather, gift wrap supplies.

I do love wrapping pretty packages, so when I found the Merry Days Gift Wrap Book and Gift Tags set at Tuesday Morning, I couldn’t resist. Although the printed paper is very thin, like copy paper, it does work for cards, too… so why not get double use when you can? I layered two of the gift wrap prints onto crisp white cardstock and placed a border of matching washi tape across the center. Then simply added a die cut tag and a pair of gift tags embellishments to finish the design.

I love the color palette of this collection! So different from other paper collections that I have, and it’s always fun to try something different every once in awhile.

Happy New Year- 2017

Hello Crafty Friends!

Happy New Year to you! Hope 2017 brings many grand new adventures, health, happiness, and prosperity to all! Cannot wait to see where this crafty ventures takes us in this new year, and looking forward to lots of fun and fabulous projects, inspiration, and friendship!

I have never been much of a one for New Year’s resolutions, nor do I tend to choose a “one little word” for the year, either. Those types of things don’t tend to stick with me for very long.

Last year, I did make a crafty goal to break out my older supplies, and use up more of my old stash…. and I hope to do that again this year. So I thought it was fitting to kick off 2017 with a stash-buster card. Only old schtuff here. And a thank you to all of you for your friendship and all the sweet comments that you leave. You all mean the world to me!

CHA preparations are still underway here at my house, so it will be awhile before I get back to my regular crafty routine. For now, friends, I’m sending many happy wishes and hugs your way!

Cards from the Scrap Pile- On Your Birthday

Happy Monday, Lovies! Hope all of you had a very sweet Valentine’s weekend!

Today I have a card to share that I’m calling a card from my scrap pile. I’m not one for making New Year’s resolutions, but every year I tell myself that I really should try to make a dent in my old paper stash, and use some of those old stamps I have lying around. So a couple of weeks ago, when the girls and I went off on our annual scrapbooking retreat, I really limited myself on the supplies that I brought. I mean, that would force me to use up some old stash, right?

I only packed paper scraps and a couple of my old floral stamp sets. Stuff that hasn’t seen the light of day in a long, long time. Like this stampin’Up Best Blossoms stamp set, circa 2006. An oldie, but a goody.

There’s just something so satisfying about using old stuff, isn’t there? I really should try to do that more often! 😉

Sweet Wishes with Therm O Web

Heeellllo Friends! Today is another busy day here at our house, and another quick post from me. It’s rather amazing how crazy graduation week can be. Who knew there were so many things to do? But we’ve got rehearsal under our belt now and I can finally see that finish line ahead. It won’t be long now!

Today I have a sweet birthday card to share with you, made with pretty Deco Foils for our special foil feature on the Therm O Web blog this week. Since summer is officially here at our house, it seemed fitting to celebrate with ice cream!

This is the beautiful Melon Pink and Pumpkin Deco Foil Transfer Sheets. I absolutely adore this bright and happy color combo, don’t you? So pretty for summer, and just perfect for ice cream. I raided my old 6×6 paper pad stash to find papers to match.  And the adorable ice cream, sweet die cut, and sentiment stamps and dies are all from the May release over at My Creative Time.

There are several ways to apply the Deco Foil sheets, but for today’s project I used the white double-sided adhesive foam. I’ve got the full step-by-step tutorial and supply list up on the Therm O Web blog, if you’d like to learn more.

Celebrate You with My Creative Time

Hi everyone, and welcome back to Day Four of sneak peeks at My Creative Time! It’s the last day of sneak peeks today, and we have one last birthday set to share with you. This time, a super cute mini gift bag die and coordinating birthday stamps called Chalkboard Birthday.

This adorable shopping bag gift bag is the perfect size for packaging small gifts or treats, and makes a wonderful money or gift card holder. Love it for birthdays, paired with the matching stamps from the set, but how cute would this be for graduation, too? I’ve got one of those coming up in my house in just a few short weeks, and this little gift bag is going to come in mighty handy.

I’ve got the perfect little gift to fit in my bag, for my wee Missy Nik who is graduating from high school this year. So I’ve made this bag in honor of her, from a favorite sweet gingham print and lots of soft, pretty colors. The celebrate banner and candles have been stamped on light pink patterned paper, and watercolored with Distress inks. They are from two different images that I combined with a bit of masking, and then fussy cut to layer on a Scalloped Stitched Oval die cut. The tiny stars are from a third chalkboard image that were selectively stamped onto the background. I added Stickles glitter and Glossy Accents to the candle flames for a bit of shimmer and shine.

Flower Gardens with Therm O Web Deco Foil

Hi Friends! Happy Wednesday, and happy April Fool’s Day, if that is at all possible. Hope you all manage to make it through this day without anybody pulling some terrible pranks on you! I’m thinking I will play it safe and stay home today…. just to be on the safe side…. 🙂

This week is card week on the Therm O Web blog. For my project, I made a bright and happy anniversary card using the amazing new Flower Garden stamp set from Tim Holtz. And for fun, I accented my flower and frame with shiny, beautiful Deco Foil.

I am seriously loving this new flower set, and couldn’t wait to try it out. For this project, I stamped and water-colored the image on Ranger Watercolor Paper, and then applied Tumbled Glass Distress Ink around the image using an ink blending tool. I die cut the piece using the Stitched Journal Die from My Creative Time, then die cut a matching frame using the MCT Hello Frame Dies. The frame was inked with Distress, as well. And finally, gold Deco Foil was added to a few select areas of the flower and frame. As you can see, the foil applies beautifully to stamped and inked areas.

This pretty paper is from BasicGrey’s new Tea Garden collection. The vellum is Maggie Holmes’ Open Book for Crate Paper. If you would like to learn more about applying Deco Foil, I’ve got a full tutorial on today’s card on the Therm O Web blog.

Celebrate All Day

I will completely own up to the fact that I hoard scrappy supplies for far toooooo long. Like these adorable journaling cards from Crate Paper’s Toy Box collection, circa spring 2011.
Yes….I still have them.

But you just never know, right? Sometimes old stuff comes in real handy. Take now, for example….when my brother was young, he was fascinated by trains. He spent countless hours building ho scale model railroad layouts, complete with trains, tracks, and scenery with villages. My dad even built him a wall cabinet that folded down into an elaborate train table, and after that, he expanded into the rafters of the garage. So when I needed a birthday card for my brother this week, these long lost accent cuts seemed just the ticket. Sometimes I’m glad that I hoard.

This card truly is a bit of a hodge-podge. Besides the Crate Paper journaling card, I used three collections by Authentique. The papers are from their new Anchored line.

The Celebrate All Day stickers are from last year’s 4th of July collection, Pride.

The sentiment is Papertrey Ink, and behind it is a sticker from the new Abroad line. It’s a bit of a jumble, but it works.

I saw so many adorable designs based on Retro Sketches #101 last week, that I couldn’t resist playing along. You all are just SO inspiring!

Happy Valentine’s Day

Hi Sweeties! Happy Friday! I hope you all had a very nice Valentine’s Day yesterday. Do anything special? I was expecting to have a rather quiet day, myself, but it ended up being the most lovely day full of surprises. One of which was this beautiful luncheon at my friend, Joanne’s, house.

Although we had a crafty play day scheduled, lunch was a complete surprise. And look at how pampered we were. Heart shaped rolls and pink beverages. Heart confetti and handmade flowers. Joanne pulled out the antique family cut crystal and her own wedding china and stemware. And not only did we get a wrapped chocolate bar as a favor, there was also a box of cupcakes to take home for each of us.

What a fabulous Valentine treat, right? Makes me feel like a princess!

Speaking of Valentine treats, I have one more to share with you today that I made for our special Valentine feature on the Epiphany Crafts blog this week.

There’s something about Valentine’s Day that just calls for Conversation Hearts. I don’t care to actually eat the things, but traditions are traditions, after all. And they sure look cute all packaged up in these easy treat containers.

Pinterest Inspiration with Epiphany Crafts

Hi everyone and happy Friday! Waving a giant hello to you all from Myrtle Beach!

This week is Pinterest Inspiration week on the Epiphany Crafts blog. I made a sweet lovey frame that I hope will add a little festive cheer to my front entryway table for Valentine’s Day.

Now I don’t know about you all, but Pinterest is a constant source of inspiration for me. I could spend hours each day pouring over all of the amazing projects and photos there. For my project, I was inspired by this gorgeous frame.

I was really drawn to the graphic design and repetition of all the hearts, and that was the springboard for my frame. But as you can see, I went a bit more crazy with the pattern.  First I made a quilted background grid by piecing 1″ squares of chevron print paper in alternating directions and then machine stitching every piece in place. Then using the Epiphany Crafts Heart 25 Shape Studio Tool as a punch, I created a paper heart for each square, save one. Machine stitched down each column of hearts and then gently lifted the sides to create a bit of dimension.

The last square got a custom embellishment made from Crate Papers adorable Fourteen collection and an Epiphany Crafts Square 25 Shape Studio Tool. I added a custom button and bow and a few more layers, and matted the whole onto recycled corrugated cardboard.

Well, I’m off now to get back to my scrapping here at the beach retreat, or at least (eh hem)……….pretending to be scrapping at the beach while I’m busy snacking and chatting. 🙂 Hope you all have a wonderful weekend, too! Thanks so much for stopping by!

You’re So Sweet

Waving a giant hello to all of you from sunny California! I am so happy to say that after a rather long and hectic day, and a sleep around the clock, we are adjusting to the good life here, nestled among the redwood trees in my childhood home. Today we have plans to do a little bit of nothing, followed by more nothing, and perhaps topped off by a little more nothing a bit later on this evening. Can’t wait to get started!

Before I left, I was able to pre-load a few projects to share while we are gone. Here’s the first of them. A card just for fun using Crate Paper’s Farmhouse collection.

Just a simple pieced background layered with cardstock stickers and die cuts. Love those cherry die cuts for a happy summer card. They make me think of the cherry trees here in my parent’s yard that hopefully will be bursting with fruit ripe for the picking before we leave.

Such happy summertime moments.
