Another Year… with CardMaps

Happy Thursday, crafty friends! At the beginning of July, a new set of CardMaps designs were released over at PageMaps, and I had the great pleasure of creating some projects with the new sketches for the reveal. Today I’m sharing one of those cards here featuring the adorable Some Days collection by PinkFresh Studio.

I am always in need of birthday cards for my stash, and thought this bright happy paper with it’s typography print was perfect for the occasion. I used the 6×6 paper pad for this, along with the coordinating enamel dots and die cuts… and went back to one of my favorite old-school techniques which is sewing on paper. Love the pop of green that zigzag stitching brings.

But probably my favorite part of this card was also the scariest to achieve, and that is the splotchy, messy paint stain behind the flowers. There’s something intimidating about pouring paint onto something you’ve spent time creating, but it’s also fun to take more of a mixed-media approach to papercrafting at times. My best advice is to go slow and easy on the paint, and dab it quickly with a bit of paper towel. You can always add more…. it’s just the take-away that is difficult.

The patterned papers had more of a creamy background tone to them, so I used Bristol Smooth cardstock here instead of white. I pulled out more green from the design with the stamped sentiment strip, and finished off with the old corner rounder and a trio of enamel dots.

You can find the sketch for this card, along with many other great designs, over on the CardMaps page.
And thanks so much for stopping by!

Make Lemonade with CardMaps

Happy Monday, crafty friends! What a glorious weekend it was here in my neighborhood. It was sunny and warm and everything has turned such a nice bright green. I spent lots of time outdoors working in my yard and walking with Finley. I pruned and mowed and picked up branches and watered and weeded. I over-exerted, and over-heated at times, but it feels so good to get so much work done. And I love that it feels like summer is almost here. I hope that whatever you did this weekend, that you had a wonderful time, too.

Today I’m sharing a card that I made for the PageMaps website using one of the CardMaps sketches from the April release. Here is the fun sketch that I used, and here is my take on it featuring the Some Days collection from Pink Fresh.

I love things with a citrus vibe, so I fell hard for this sweet collection. This card was made with the 6×6 paper pad, the die cut ephemera bits, and the matching enamel dots. And I threw in some Sizzix cardstock and border dies from Photo Play Paper to finish the design.

As you can see, the die cut lemons and flowers replace the cute bunnies from the sketch. I layered the die cuts and added some with foam dots to add depth and dimension. The sentiment label is a snippet from the paper pad, and although small, works perfectly for this design.

Love these happy colors and papers! This is making me want to break out some of my lemon decor and do a bit of decorating. It’s time to put that on the old to-do list!

Hope your week is getting off to a great start, and thanks so much for stopping by!

Frosty Friends with CardMaps

Happy Monday, crafty friends! I’m kicking off the week with a card share featuring another card that I made for the PageMaps site using one of the new January CardMaps sketches.

Here is the fun sketch that I used, and my take on it using PhotoPlay Paper’s adorable Winter Memories collection.

You all know that I’m a huge sucker for cute critters, and this paper collection is filled with them. Love that this line works equally well for holiday cards as it does for the winter season, which is the emphasis of my card today.

I closely followed the sketch design with layers of patterned papers edged in lacy die cut trim. I cut a focal block from papers with a more solid print to help the cute woodland animal stand out. The snowbank was die cut using Heffy Doodle Slopey-Joes border dies. And then a twine tie finished the design.

We were forecast to get our first snowfall of the year this past week…. but it didn’t happen. Maybe soon?

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful week!

Happy Wednesday, crafty friends! Today I have a card to share that I made for the July release of the new CardMaps sketches on the PageMaps blog.

Here is the fun sketch that I used, and my take on it featuring GinaK Designs stamps and a Unity card front from Therm O Web.

One of my favorite things about Therm O Web is the diverse range of products and designers that they work with. This past spring, they partnered up with Unity stamps to create a line of toner card fronts that work beautifully with or without TOW deco foils. For this card, I used Copic markers to color a Floral Background card front sheet to create that pretty sunflower card base.

I love how well the GinaK Designs Graphic Sunflowers stamps coordinate with the Unity background. I always think of sunflowers in August. One last burst of summer color before autumn sets in.

Hope your August is going well! Hard to believe it’s about half over already. My missy Nik started her senior year of college this week, can you fathom that? And Pete’s back in Richmond doing a hospital pharmacy rotation before his classes start back up. Summer sure flew by, didn’t it?

A Wild Honey Hello with Photo Play Paper

Happy Monday, crafty friends! I hope you had a lovely weekend and that you were able to celebrate all those special men in your lives yesterday for Father’s Day. Today I have a just-for-fun card to share that I made with the adorable Wild Honey collection from PhotoPlay Paper.

I absolutely love honey bees, so this collection is really one of my favorites from the summer release. I used one of the cut-apart journaling cards for the sentiment, just cutting some small notches from the top and bottom with a circle punch.

The stickers were popped up with foam dots, then a few die cut circles for layering, and a simple twine tie. This card was based upon a sketch from the April CardMaps sketches on the PageMaps blog.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead!

Hello crafty friends! Happy Memorial Day to you (and happy birthday to my sweet mom, too)! Memorial Day always feels like the unofficial start of summer, doesn’t it? And although we are still sheltering in place as much as possible, I can’t help dreaming of all those wonderful summer things… picnics and backyard bbq’s… trips to the beach…. or s’mores around the campfire. So perfect time to share this last card that I made for the April 2020 CardMaps sketches on the PageMaps blog.

Here is the fun sketch that I used, and my take on it featuring the adorable Camp Happy Bear collection from Photo Play Paper.

I used to love to camp in my younger days, and still fondly remember many happy nights spent around the campfire, just like these cute guys here are doing. I’m just a sucker for cute critters. Love that this bear can’t decide between fish or dessert, so he’s having both. Definitely a bear after my own heart.

I followed the sketch very closely this time. The owl and the tree branch image on the background are from one of the larger cut-apart 4×6 journaling cards that I trimmed down to size. I layered the bottom with several patterned papers from the collection, and inked the cardstock base with a bit of light Distress ink to match. An old cloud border die was used to make the shrub line. Then I filled in cardstock stickers for the rest of the design.

These days, I’d rather camp out in a chair on the beach than in an actual campground. How about you? Any happy campers in your house?

Thanks so much for stopping by! Happy Memorial Day. Let us never forget
this day to remember and honor
all the brave heroes who served
to hold our flag high

Happy Monday! It’s the start of another week of quarantine here in North Carolina. I’ve lost track of how many this makes now, and am actually having a hard time even remembering what day of the week it is. But I’m very grateful to say that the sun is shining with beautiful spring days and that we are all still healthy. Hope you are, as well.

At the beginning of April, the PageMaps website released the new CardMaps sketches, and I am very excited to have been able to create a few card samples for the reveal. If you are a card maker, or are wanting to become one, these sketches are an amazing source of inspiration. Here is one of the April sketch designs, and below is my take on it.

This sketch is for a square card design, and I did mine in a 5×5 size using the adorable Tulla & Norbert collection from Photo Play Paper. I chose two main patterned papers for the background, and accented with paper banner strips and cardstock stickers. Those banners are a great way to sneak in a little more patterned paper without overwhelming the design.

The sketch called for a rounded edge on the second background paper, and I substituted for a more wonky curved edge that I die cut using the Stitched Slopey Joes Border Dies by Heffy Doodle. Foam adhesive behind some of the stickers added a bit of dimension to the design.

May is PageMaps 14th Anniversary! To celebrate, they are giving away a $100 Gift Certificate to A Cherry on Top. For your chance to win, leave a comment on their Facebook page and tell them what your favorite cupcake flavor is.

To double your chances to win, visit their Instagram page and comment there, too.

They will combine all comments from FB and IG and draw a random winner on Friday, May 29, 2020.

Good luck, friends! And thanks so much for stopping by!

Happy Bunny Day with CardMaps

PMU Header

Hi crafty friends! Hope you are keeping well! It’s definitely a challenge to cope with these trying times, that I know. Thank goodness for all the technology we have these days to help keep us all connected, and not feel so alone. I find that keeping busy helps…. keeping crafting and creating. That old motto of “create something every day” is really fitting right now.

So with that in mind, I have lots of fun crafty inspiration to share with you all. Easter is coming up soon, and although the day will be very different this year, we can still spread a bit of handmade holiday cheer to friends and family afar. This week, I have five days of Easter projects to share, all made with the adorable Easter Wishes collection by ColorPlay… Starting today with a card I made for the PageMaps blog using the new April CardMaps sketches.

Here is the fun sketch I used, and my take on it featuring a seriously cute hippity hoppity bunny.

One of my favorite things about the PhotoPlay (ColorPlay) collections is their cut apart journaling card sheet, and the smaller 3×4 versions of those are perfectly suited for this design. To get the scalloped edging along the bottom that you see in the sketch, I die cut a simple label shape from patterned paper, cut it in half, and added the two pieces behind the journaling card. I love the extra detailing that gives to the card… and it made a nice ledge to wrap the twine around, too.

Otherwise this card is such a quick and easy make. The extra Happy Bunny Day sentiment strip was from a different journaling card that I snipped apart in pieces. A flower cardstock sticker for the bunny’s bow, and a bit of foam adhesive finish the design.

Stop back tomorrow for another Easter Wishes project, and pop by the CardMaps site to download all of the new April sketches for more crafty ideas during this quarantine time . Until then, be well, friends!

January 2020 CardMaps- Hug in a Mug

PMU Header

Hello, hello, crafty friends, and happy New Year! I hope you all had a very wonderful holiday season, and that 2020 is off to a great start for you! Can you believe we are starting a whole new decade? Time sneaks away so quickly. I still clearly remember all the excitement of starting a new century in 2000……..like it was yesterday. šŸ˜€

With the start of a new year comes a whole new set of card making sketches on the PageMaps blog, and today I’m sharing the first card I made with the January sketches. Here is the fun sketch that I used, and my take on it featuring some adorable stamps by Hello Bluebird.

I’m sure you all know what a sucker I am for the cute little critters. Hello Bluebird has some of the cutest ones out there, including these sweeties from the Cocoa Party stamp set. Although this is mostly a holiday set, I think the images are perfect for a blustery winter look with their hot beverages and woolly jumpers. We’ve been having weather from the mid 50’s to the mid 70’s these past few weeks, so this may be the closest I get to actual snow this year.

My favorite paper collection for holiday cards this year was definitely Echo Park Paper’s My Favorite Christmas, so of course I had to try out their next release, My Favorite Winter. I picked out two snowy prints to follow the sketch design, layered with crisp white cardstock to make everything pop. The images were colored with Copic markers and die cut with the matching dies. The ovals are from the Limitless Layers Oval die set by Papertrey Ink.

Wishing you all a very crafty new year! And thanks so much for stopping by!

2019 Holiday Card Series- Day 11 with CardMaps

PMU Header

Happy Saturday, and welcome back to day 11 of my 2019 Holiday Card Series. Today Iā€™m sharing a card that I had the great pleasure of making for the October CardMaps sketches on the PageMaps blog.

Here is the fun sketch that I used, and my take on it featuring a mix of new and old favorites.

I think my favorite holiday collection by far this year has been Echo Park Paper’s My Favorite Christmas, and once again it predominantly features in today’s card. I used crisp white cardstock and a bit of super old Lawn Fawn patterned paper on the background and scalloped frame. Snowflake and ornament stickers cascade down the right side to mimic the heart elements on the sketch.

Some older Sizzix scallop dies were used for the round frame. A tree and sentiment sticker, along with some stitched sewing thread, finish the design.

Thanks so much for stopping by, friends! I’m running out of time for holiday projects, but I’m hoping to squeeze in a few more…. so I’ll see you all soon!
