Ahoy Mate with PhotoPlay Paper

Hello crafty friends, happy Monday to you! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! It was literally hot as blazes here in the heart of North Carolina over the past few days. No doubt that summer is in full swing. Perfect time to share this nautical card that I made for PhotoPlay Paper featuring their adorable Monterey Bay collection.

You all may have noticed this card on my blog header over the past few months, but I have actually been waiting for the warm weather to hit to share the full project (and that time is NOW). In fact I made this card for PhotoPlay back in January for Creativation, and it was probably my absolute favorite project that I got to make for the show. I mean come on!!! Look at that fantastic walrus in his little sailor suit! Could you not just die?

Layers of patterned papers mixed with border stickers, ephemera die cuts, and cardstock stickers from the kit. I do so love me a good nautical design. And growing up near the real Monterey Bay in California, this collection stirs up some nostalgia and childhood memories in the best possible way.

Did any of you grow up near the ocean? East coast or west coast? I have to say, having lived on both coasts, I’d be hard pressed to choose.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you a fantastic week ahead!

Creativation 2019- Wish You Were Here with Ranger Ink

Hello friends, remember me? Sorry for my recent absence. Seems I’ve been taking a very unplanned blog break since bringing home my new little puppy, Finley. I knew a pup would keep me busy, but I had no clue that he would absorb as much of my time as he really does. Everything in the world is new to him, and he wants to explore it all.  He is definitely keeping me on my toes.

All this has left me very little time in the craft room, but I do have several recent projects to share, including this spring flower card that I made for the Ranger Ink booth at Creativation 2019 featuring the new Tim Holtz Wildflower Stems #2 die set and lots of bright and happy colors of Distress.

I used a mixture of stamping and stenciling to create the stacked layered background. The Flurry & Pine background stamp set created the cool chevron style print, and I used the Diamonds Shifter stencil, inked in soft Tattered Rose Distress, on the framework for the flower. The paper behind the oval opening is an old Project Life journaling card that I’ve had in my stash forever. Really love the pop of contrasting color that brought to all the hot pinks.

The flower and greens were die cut from Bristol and Distress cardstocks, and Distress inks were used to watercolor the stem and petals. I used the new Distress Archival Ink in Picked Raspberry to stamp the sentiment. Such a happy color combo, and so perfect for this first day of spring!

Hope you are all doing well! And I hope to be around to visit soon! I’m still not sure how much blogging I will get to in the next several weeks, cause believe it or not…. Finley actually chewed up my eyeglasses. Completely mangled them beyond use or repair. Right now I am stuck in a six-year-old prescription, and needless to say, I’m almost as blind as a bat. Good thing the little stinker is so cute!

Tim Holtz Creativation 2019 Blog Hop

Hello, crafty friends! Thanks so much for stopping by, and welcome to the Tim Holtz Creativation 2019 Blog Hop! Today I am joining in with a group of very talented designers to share a closer look at some of the booth projects that were showcased at Creativation in January featuring all the fabulous new products from the Tim Holtz collection.

I had the great pleasure of creating a few projects for the Tim Holtz Sizzix booth, and today I am excited to share my favorites from the show… a set of travel notebook journals made with the new Tiny Travel Globe die set from the upcoming Chapter 2 Sizzix release.

The Tiny Travel Globes are a continuation of the ever popular miniature snowglobe set that Tim released for the holidays this past year, and yes, these images are truly tiny and amazingly detailed. Each icon measures from about .5″ to 1″ in height, and all the little layered details you see here are individual die cuts. But never fear… all the pieces for each image come together on one die for super easy assembly.

There are the most adorable dimensional plastic domes that work with this set to create very lifelike 3D snow globe designs, but I wanted to show how these die cuts could be used in other ways. Each journal I created combines three or more images from the set into little framed travel scenes, perfect for documenting your favorite vacation sights and memories.

These travel notebooks measure about 3.5 “x 5.5”, and come in a pack of six from Amazon, making them super convenient and inexpensive to create in bulk. To add that aged and distressed appearance we all love so well, I started by adding some Distress ink splatters and Ranger black embossing powder to the edges of the journal before going over the cover with sand paper to scuff it up a bit. Next comes a layer of heavyweight cardstock, splattered and stamped in a really cool chevron-style print from the Flurry & Pine (CMS312) stamp set from Stamper’s Anonymous. I changed up the colors of each of the background to add a bit of variety to the set. Love the sort of primary-school color palette I used of red, yellow, green, and blue Distress ink. The backgrounds were then embellished with big chat stickers, and “held” in place with Idea-ology design tape.

The black frames were made by nesting a Stitched Ovals die in the center of a Stitched Rectangle die. I used the Tonic Studios paper distresser tool up scratch up the edges of the frame, and then added a bit of Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide ink with an ink blending tool. If you look very closely, you may notice some faint images that look like postage marks (Haberdashery CMS105) that I stamped randomly around the frames in Black Soot ink. And for more texture, black embossing powder was dry sprinkled onto the frames and very carefully heat set from the back with my heat tool.

The images for each vignette were all die cut and pieced from sanded Distress Kraft Stock cardstock, and I used additional pieces of the same cardstocks to help build the rest of the scenes. To keep the set uniform, I created sunny blue skies for each setting using Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean Distress inks on watercolor paper, and then layered on the additional detail pieces. Once you get started, it’s really fun to see where your imagination goes.

Each journal is tied closed with twine and fastened in a bow with a Idea-ology Typed Token. To make the tokens look as old as the rest of the journal, I dabbed them with Alcohol inks in Caramel and Rust. White Distress Crayon rubbed into the recesses really helps the lettering stand out. Last detail on each notebook is a destination sentiment strip die cut using the new Alphanumeric Label dies that are also coming out in the upcoming Chapter 2 release.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and enjoy the rest of the hop! But before you go, be sure to leave a comment here, and all along the hop, for your chance to win one of three amazing prize giveaways. And Hello to You with Tim Holtz & Sizzix

Hi friends, happy Friday! I hope you are all doing wonderfully well! I’m sorry things have been so quiet here on my blog lately. I’m afraid my new work schedule is leaving little time for crafting and play. But I’m very happy to be here today to share the last of the cards I made for the Tim Holtz Alterations booth at the Creativation 2018 show. Just in time for a flash sale on Tim Holtz products going on over at Sizzix this weekend! Read on for more information on that.

This card features three of the new die(s) that Tim released at the show this year. The frame is made using a negative shape die cut from the Stacked Postage dies. I love that scalloped detail that created on the inside of the frame. And the floral accents are from the Funky Floral #1 dies, stacked at different levels on the side of the frame to help call attention to the simple sentiment. But the star here is truly that cool alphabet background. That is the new Cutout Lower Alphabet die, a Bigz XL die released in the April collection. I managed to squeeze the entire alphabet into my background, with a little hidden message, too. A great way to get some extra use out of those alpha dies.

Did you all see the news? Sizzix announced their new design team this week. I decided not to re-apply when the call went out. With my new work schedule, there just aren’t enough hours in the day. But I wish the new team all the best, and don’t worry… I will still be playing with my Sizzix products as much as I can!

And speaking of Sizzix products… be sure to check out the Tim Holtz Sizzix FLASH SALE going on this weekend- today through the 20th, only!

Smiles with Photoplay Paper Mad4Plaid Happy

Happy Monday, friends! We’ve just finished up spring break here at our house, and although my kiddos keep busy these days, this happy mom got to spend the last several days hanging out with my girl. We packed a ton into three short days, and I miss her like crazy already…. but my heart is full and happy. So today I thought it was fitting to share a card I made for the Creativations (CHA) show with Photoplay Paper’s Mad4Plaid Happy collection.

Mad4Plaid Happy has the cutest little dog images throughout the collection. This one here is from one of the cut-apart journaling card sheets. I simply added a small twine bow for accent, and layered the card with banner strips and bright patterned papers.

An Elements sticker for a quick and easy card sentiment.  Matte enamel dots add a touch of dimension. I snipped a couple of tiny squares of paper in half for photo corner embellishments.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you all have an amazing day!

Where Flowers Bloom with Therm O Web

Happy Monday, friends! Thanks for stopping by!

Today I have a card to share that I made for the Therm O Web booth at the Creativations (CHA) 2018 show. You all may remember that I had mentioned new and innovative products coming soon to the deco foil line-up, and today I am excited to share some of these new goodies with you. Including stamps that you can ink and foil, like these pretties here, from the new Stampn’Foil Where Flowers Bloom collection.

To launch this new line-up of products, Therm O Web is releasing three different Stampn’Foil sets. There’s butterflies, and birthday cakes, and this beautiful set of flowers. What’s very cool about these products is that you can use the stamps on their own, and simply ink them up like any regular stamp. Or, you can use them in conjunction with the coordinating toner Details Sheets, and add foil to your stamped images. Or use a combination of all of the above, like I’ve done here.

Included in the new Stampn’Foil collection are dies for easy cutting. And of course there are new colors of Deco Foil, including this sparkly Dazzling Orange color. And there are new background Foil-Mates designs, too, like the pretty vine pattern here.

I’ve got the complete step-by-step tutorial for this project up on the Therm O Web blog, if you’d like to learn more.

Hope your week is off to a great start!

Mad 4 Plaid Happy Hooray with Photo Play Paper

Hip Hip Hooray! It’s Fri-YAY!
Every time the weekend rolls around feels like cause for a little celebration, right? So today I thought it was fitting to share this happy, celebratory card that I made for the Creativations (CHA) show featuring the adorable new Mad4Plaid Happy collection from Photo Play Paper.

This adorable collection is a continuation of PhotoPlay’s ever-popular Mad 4 Plaid series. And as the name suggests, the line is filled with fabulous plaid prints in a range of scales and designs with a bright and happy color palette so perfect for spring. And if you’re a dog-lover like me, or just a fan of the cutest little critters ever, then this latest line is sure to leave you feeling, well….. happy!

For my card, I used alternating layers of crisp white cardstock mixed with a range of plaids from the patterned papers. The cute doggy, the flower, and the hooray banner are cardstock stickers, popped up onto one of the cut-apart journaling cards. I added little twine bows and an awesome new matte enamel dot to the dog’s collar, too.

Mad4Plaid Happy is shipping now, and best thing is…. all PhotoPlay products are still on sale right now at Scrapbook.com! Hooray! 😉

Creativation 2018- Straight Up Amazing with Photo Play Paper

Hello, everyone! And happy Monday to you! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. It was a quiet one for me, but I have to say that I really enjoy that sometimes. It’s rare when I don’t have to work at all… but this weekend I was completely free. So I took advantage of the extra down time by logging lots of hours of Olympics. And working on a puzzle. And even starting on some spring prims for my shop. Boy, did it feel nice to do nothing for a bit! 😀

Today I’m sharing another card I made for the Photo Play Paper Creativations booth. This sweet, girly card features their new Gypsy Rose line. And I am truly crazy about the soft and pretty colors and prints in this gorgeous collection.

Most of the design on this card focuses on the cut-apart journaling card sheet. I snipped apart and layered three of the blocks to create the focal panel here. The brown floral journaling card in the center is the main one. The sentiment, and the banner behind it, and the strips of pink at the top and the bottom, are all parts of several other journaling cards, too.

I added some scalloped borders, and strips of patterned paper mixed with sticker strips. The beautiful butterfly was popped up on foam dots for a touch of depth and dimension.

*P.S.- Enabler Alert! *

Creativation 2018- Tim Holtz Blog Hop & Give Away!

Hi everyone! Thank you for joining us today for the Creativations 2018- Tim Holtz Blog Hop and Give Away! I am so excited to be joining in on the fun, sharing one of my projects that I made for the Sizzix Alterations booth featuring fabulous new dies from the Tim Holtz collection!

Are you all as excited about the new release as I am? It just never ceases to amaze me what innovative and amazing products Tim continues to wow us with, time after time. For my card today, I am sharing a bright and happy floral card made with the new Funky Floral #1 die set, part of the February Sizzix Alterations release. This project is inspired by all my favorite colors of spring, with a bold floral pattern set against crisp black cardstock, reminiscent of the style design of Rifle Paper Company’s amazing stationary line.

If you love design options, then you are going to adore the Funky Floral #1 die set. This Thinlits die set includes 17 pieces for die cutting an entire garden full of flowers, branches, and leaf designs. And one of my favorite features of this new set is that all of the individual pieces that you need to create the finished flower or leaf are included together on one die. So no need to try to figure out what shape goes with what. How brilliant is that?

I die cut all my individual shapes from Distress Watercolor Cardstock, and then individually inked them all with my ink blending tool. This way I could die cut all the pieces I needed in just one or two passes through the die cut machine, rather than spending the time die cutting the pieces from lots of different colors of paper. Really is a great time saving tip!

To keep my color palette harmonious, I stuck with two basic color families (pink and green), but used a wide range within those color families to add in some depth and interest. The cardstock layer beneath was inked in the same soft pink as the flowers to tie everything together, and layered against the bold black, the design really pops. The sentiment is a combination of die cut letters and a stamped banner. I’ll link you to all the products below.

PRIZES, PRIZES,PRIZES!

Of course a blog hop needs a few prizes! Just leave a comment on ALL the different blog hop posts for a chance to win! Comments must be posted by midnight PST on Tuesday, February 6th. Winners will be announced on Wednesday, February 7th on Richele’s blog.

Creativation 2018- Gypsy Rose with Photo Play Paper

Hi sweet friends, and happy Thursday! As you all can see from my irregular blogging schedule, I still haven’t managed to find my regular groove yet in 2018… but I do believe there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The big Creativation (CHA) trade show was this past weekend in Phoenix, AZ, and now that it’s come and gone, I am free to start sharing some of the new products I’ve had the great pleasure to play with this past month. Starting today with this beautiful new collection from Photo Play Paper called Gypsy Rose.

I know you all know by now what a fan I am of neutral colors. Such a beautiful color palette in this line of bold black and warm creamy browns mixed with a range of pinks from soft and dreamy to the color of deep, rich wine. ❤
For this card, I started with the fun diagonal stripe in the background, and then layered the base with several of the journaling cards from the cut apart sheet. The lovely woodgrain and floral print piece is a 4×6 journaling card, trimmed down a bit to fit my card front. And the sweet little deer is a 4×4 journaling card from the same sheet. What’s fun about this cut apart paper is that there are three different sizes of cards to choose from, giving you lots and lots of design options.

I popped up a banner Elements sticker with foam tape for the sentiment, and tied the card with twine. The photo corners are 1″ squares of patterned paper that I snipped in half diagonally for a quick and easy accent.

Gypsy Rose is shipping now, for those who want to take a peek! I’ll link you to all the supplies below. Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
