Hello, hello Friends! Happy Monday. I’m so glad you stopped by! I’ve got a Sizzix tutorial to share with you today. It’s one of my gift wrapping projects, with a fun trophy-shaped gift tag, made with some of my favorite stamps and dies from Brenda Walton.
I’m sure it comes as no secret by now that I am crazy for fancy gift wrapping. To me, the outside of the package is almost as important as the inside. Recently, some young friends of mine celebrated a milestone event by getting their first apartment together. And you know a special event like that requires some special gift wrapping.
Since my package was going to a couple, I wanted it to appeal to both of them, so I picked some nice bold colors and patterns and paired them with my favorite kraft wrap, which I think works well for every occasion. And since my package was fairly large, I wanted a tag that would be big enough to really stand out on it’s own, too. And this adorable Trophy Card Bigz L die by Brenda Walton was just what the doctor ordered.
Just the perfect size for my package, with the perfect amount of space on the back for adding a hand-written note. And lots of fun to make and super easy, too. I’ve got a quick tutorial for you, so let’s take a closer look.
Here’s a peek at the adorable stamps and dies I used, and the fun gift I found. A copy of the original Moosewood cookbook, circa 1977, beautifully hand-lettered and illustrated by one of the chefs at the famous Moosewood restaurant in upstate New York. I have this book myself, and it is a true treasure.
To create the tag, begin by die cutting the trophy cup from your favorite patterned paper or cardstock using your Big Shot machine and this standard die cutting sandwich for Bigz dies: Standard Cutting Pad, Bigz die (cutting side up), paper, Standard Cutting Pad.
Continue to die cut the trophy shape from a variety of contrasting papers. I made my base trophy from the blue striped paper, and then cut the trophy again three more times from some additional papers (although you only see two of them here), and trimmed the pieces down to do some paper piecing. By the way, this adorable paper is from the So Rad collection by Simple Stories.
Here you can see the trophy all pieced, and the fun part is that you can add as many or as few layers here as you wish. Once I had my trophy complete, I added a bit of trim and stitching along the paper seams for a decorative touch.
The blue ribbon die cut was a great size for the middle of my cup, and I love how it matched my papers… but the sentiment didn’t work for me. No problem, though. As you can see, the round die from Brenda’s Awards Framelits w/Stamps was the perfect fit.
I die cut the pinked circle from solid navy paper, and sanded the edges lightly to expose the white paper core underneath, before adding it to the center of my blue ribbon. Followed that up with another So Rad die cut, cause I’m all about the layers. And finished off with a stamped congrats banner.
I die cut the entire trophy one last time from white cardstock and adhered it to the backside of the pieced version. Great way to hide the stitching, and gives a nice finished surface with room to write. Last step was to punch a small hole in the top and thread it with a bit of hemp twine, tied into my ribbon bow.
