The 265 Lucky Clover with Tim Holtz Assemblage

This past year or so, the girls and I have been experimenting with jewelry making during our weekly crafty play day sessions. We taught ourselves basic wire-wrapping and beading, and I even went so far as to try my hand at making my own closures and clasps. In March, we took a road trip to my favorite beading store and took a class on silk knotting techniques. SO much fun! I truly love it all! Unfortunately my heavy work schedule this spring has left little time for crafting. But I’m finally, happily back to part-time, and yesterday, the girls and I broke out our gems and jewels for a little crafty fun. Perfect opportunity to re-unite with my poor neglected Tim Holtz Assemblage supplies.

I’m calling this my 265 Lucky Clover necklace, named for the charms I used here. And I must say, this piece truly fits my eclectic style with its mixed metals, assortment of various charms and chains, and asymmetrical design. So shabby chic, don’t you think?

I just love how unique each Assemblage finding is. Truly like a mini piece of art. And so easy to work with, too. Everything you need to make jewelry is included in this collection, from toggles and clasps to chains and charms. All you need to do is piece it together.

Feels so good to have a little time to play again! Hope you all are enjoying lots of crafty time, too, in these long summer days. Happy Friday, friends!

The “Extras” with Tim Holtz Assemblage

Hi Sweet Friends! Happy Monday, and a very happy 4th of July holiday to my friends and family here in the States!

As many of you know, I have taken on a new hobby of jewelry making this past year, and have been having the most fun playing with the new Tim Holtz Assemblage collection. Today I am excited to share my latest jewelry pieces with you. These are what I’m lovingly referring to as the “extras”, made with the leftovers from my previous projects.

One of my favorite ways to use the Assemblage chain components is to combine bits and pieces of multiple strands to create a varied design. And one of my favorite outcomes of that is having smaller sections of chain leftover for new projects, like the bracelets I am sharing today. This first one is a double-wrap bracelet made with the beautiful pink rosary bead chain, decorated with sparkling accents and charms.

Jewelry projects like these are truly soooooo easy to create. Simply attach a jump ring to one end of chain, and a lobster claw to the other, and then add a few charms in between.  I used a mixture of Sparkling Rondelle and Diamonds & Pearls charms along with that adorable wishbone charm. I’m thinking of this one as my Lucky Charm piece.

The second bracelet is done in an oxidized silver finish using extras from the Gunmetal Link chain. I attached a lobster claw and jump ring at the ends again, along with a dangle of extra chain to act as an extender. And then I attached a Diamonds & Pearls charm and another Sparkling Rondelle for a bit of extra detail.

The center of the bracelet is decorated with one of my favorite pieces from the entire collection, the beautiful round shell charm from the Shell Flower & Links charms, which I topped with a Flower Rosette charm via a pair of gunmetal rings. So simple, and just so fun!

The Granby Necklace with Tim Holtz Assemblage

Hello, Crafty Friends!
Happy, Happy Friday!

I have been having the most fun playing with the new Tim Holtz Assemblage collection, and today I am excited to share my latest jewelry piece with you! This one I am calling my Granby necklace, once again named for the beautiful tag charm I used.

I know I’ve mentioned lots of things that I love about this jewelry line, but I have to say it again… each piece is so beautifully crafted, and I’m in awe of just how many different finishes and findings there are to choose from.

So far, I’ve managed to make necklaces in both a gunmetal and antique brass finish (click here and here if you missed those posts), and today I have a bright silver piece to share, accented with my most favorite stone ever, turquoise. Once again I’ve taken lots of photos, and will walk you through the assembly process for all of those wishing to create their own Granby accessories.

One of my favorite things about creating my own handmade jewelry is having the ability to mix and match many different pieces into one. For this necklace, I have combined three silver chains, and love the visual texture that adds. And better yet, I still have pieces of leftover chain that are perfect for making a matching bracelet. Bonus! For this necklace, I began with the Silver Textured Loop chain, with a Flat Toggle clasp added in the middle. At the right end, I added a Diamonds & Pearls charm and and one of the smaller Turquoise Medallions.

From the bottom of the medallion, I added two chains, a 5″ length of Silver Delicate Loop chain, and a 7″ length of Silver Link chain. Simply open up a link on any of the chains to create lengths in any size. At the halfway point on the Silver Link section, I added the focal point dangle, made from many pieces but soooo easy to put together. First I attached a Pearl & Ornate Frame Pendant, with a Sparkling Rondelle added to the same jump ring. From the frame itself, hangs the Tags Charm followed by another Diamonds & Pearls charm.

At the other end is a repeat of elements. The chains are attached to the second Turquoise Medallion, and then the medallion links to the other side of the necklace. I also added another Diamonds & Pearls charm to pull it all together.

So fun, and really easy, too! Remember all Tim Holtz Assemblage products are available through Joanne Fabric & Craft stores or online at joann.com, and now through Simon Says Stamp, too.

The Patina Leaves Set with Tim Holtz Assemblage

Hello Crafty Friends, and happy Monday!
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

Today I am excited to share another jewelry project with you featuring the fabulous new Assemblage collection by Tim Holtz.

As a relatively new jewelry maker, I cannot emphasize enough how fun and how easy it is to create with the new Assemblage collection. This line literally has everything you need to complete any jewelry project, from the basic findings like jump rings and clasps to a huge variety of chains, and all the gorgeous charms and links needed for adding that personal finishing touch. It truly is just a matter of opening and closing a few jump rings and chains, and you are on your way to beautiful jewelry.

Early in the month, I shared a glitzy necklace project in a gunmetal finish with lots of bling (click HERE in case you missed it), and today I’ve got a little set in brass to show featuring some of my absolute favorite Assemblage charms, the Patina Leaves.

I really love this look. It’s so fun combining all the different bits and pieces, and I just love how unique the finished project turns out. So different from the typical store-bought jewelry. I’ve taken lots of detail photos to share and will walk you through the process, in case you’d like to make a patina leaves set of your own.

This necklace begins with the Brass Link 18″ chain. Fold the chain in half to determine the center point, and open the center chain link using a pair of needle-nose pliers. Attach a Flat Toggle clasp to the two ends of the chain for the closure. At the bottom of the right chain comes a jump ring followed by an Ornate Ovals link in brass. Add another jump ring to the bottom end of the oval link and attach a Lobster Claw Clasp. Then to the jump rings and clasp, add a variety of charms and dangles. I used a pair of Diamonds & Pearls charms, and an adorable puppy Brass Bezel charm, too.

I like to mix chains to add a bit of texture and variety, so here I added a 5″ length of Brass Loop chain next, attached by the lobster claw at one end, and a jump ring at the other. Then comes that beautiful Branch charm.

One really fun thing about this charm is that there are holes along the branch where you can add some dangles if you choose. I attached a couple more of the Diamonds & Pearls charms and a pair of amazing Patina Leaves. The end of the branch meets up with the left side of the Brass Link chain.

With some of the leftover Brass Loop chain, I created a matching bracelet, closed with one of the Lobster Claw clasps. On the center link, I added a jump ring, to which I could attach a trio of charms.

The Montgomery Necklace with Tim Holtz Assemblage

Happy Wednesday, Crafty Friends!

I am so excited to share this post with you all today! You may remember me mentioning once or twice over the past couple of months that I’ve been trying my hand at a new hobby, jewelry making.  So you can imagine how happy I was to hear that Tim Holtz was coming out with his own line of jewelry supplies! Of course I couldn’t wait to get my hands on these new products, and today I am thrilled to share my first ever Tim Holtz Assemblage jewelry design.

I am calling this piece my Montgomery necklace, after the Tag Charm that I used here, and I truly just adore how it turned out. There is so much to love about this new product line, it’s hard to know where to start. First of all, the finish and quality of these pieces are phenomenal, with a bit of glitz and glam mixed with that vintage aged feel we all know and love from the Tim Holtz line. And all these products are nickel and lead free. Absolutely must-haves for jewelry.

As crafters, we all like lots of choices, and another thing I love about the Assemblage line is all the choices that are available, including absolutely everything you need to complete any jewelry project, from chains to findings to charms and links and tokens and more. This particular necklace is pieced from three different chains, with lots of beautiful details in between. I think it looks pretty cool, and seriously, this was so easy, you won’t even believe. I’ve taken lots of close-ups photos so that you can see all the individual pieces and details, and I’ll try to mention each part as we go.

With so many amazing charms to choose from, it was too hard to pick a favorite, so I added quite a few. And truly, it’s as easy as opening and closing a few jump rings. For the chain, I started with Gunmetal Loop at the top, cut from the original 36″ to about 18″ with one snip of a wire cutter. Next comes a Faceted Gems Charm, attached with a jump ring, followed by a Gemstone Flower Link. To add interest, next I attached two links from the Pink Rosary Chain.

After the Pink Rosary Chain is the amazing Bouquet Charm, attached on either end with jump rings, followed by one more link of Pink Rosary. Then I added a 3″ section of Gunmetal Link Chain, which is similar in finish but different in shape to the first Gunmetal Loop. The Gunmetal Link chain comes with the lobster clasp, which I used to connect to the next section.

Attached to the lobster claw jump ring are two fun dangle charms, one small Sparkling Rondell, and a pearl from the Diamonds & Pearls charms. Then the namesake, the Montgomery Tag Charm.

After that is a little more repeat of elements to create some balance. First, another Gemstone Flowers Link, followed by Pink Rosary Chain, attached to the other end of the Gunmetal Loop chain.

The toggle clasp comes attached to the Gunmetal chain, so super easy finishing. And with the leftover chain parts from this project I was able to complete two additional bracelets and am working on another necklace, too, which I’ll share another time.
