Merry Christmas with Santa’s Helper

Popping by to wish my sweet bloggy friends a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year with one last holiday card share for the year featuring an adorable holiday helper from the Tim Holtz Sizzix Chapter 3 release.

This sweet elf and his stacked present are from the Santa’s Helper die set from Chapter 3. Love how he’s styled like those old-time silhouette images, so I kept to that look with a crisp black cardstock image, layered with color accents for a bit of whimsy.

I really like the combo of pink and red for the holidays, so that is what I went with here. The soft pink stripes in the background were made with the Mint Shifter stencil and masking. The sentiment is a mix of stamping and die cut alpha label letters. A wee pom pom for the hat finishes the design.

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas holiday with your family and friends! And thanks, as always, for stopping by!

Mr Snowman Gift Card Holder with Sizzix

Hello crafty friends! It’s the day before Halloween and my house is still filled with pumpkins and spooks, but as is often the case in the craft world, it’s time to move on to the next season. So today I’m super excited to be doing something I haven’t done in quite some time…. sharing a project on the Sizzix blog. This time, it’s the Sizzix UK blog The Making Journal and my project share is this sweet Mr. Snowman gift card holder tag.

The focus of my project was featuring Tim Holtz dies from the latest Sizzix Chapter 4 release, and I used two of my favorite new sets on this tag today. This is the adorable Mr. Snowman die from the new Colorize line, and the background was made with the Alpine set which makes incredible scenery for so many different designs. The tag and all the pieces were die cut from a combo of Distress watercolor cardstock and Distress Kraft Stock cardstock, and I went in with Distress Oxides and Inks to add color and definition to all the layers and pieces. Dyed trim was added to the top of the tag, and I made a quick and easy sentiment banner with simple twine and die cut Alphanumeric Label letters.

I call this a 2-fer project, because it really is two projects rolled into one. Not only is this adorable snowman tag a great packaging gift tag or decorative art tag, it also does double duty as a gift card holder. I love time saving ideas like this when the busy holiday season comes around.
If you’d like to learn more about the process, or check out the full step-by-step tutorial, be sure to pop on over to the Sizzix UK blog The Making Journal.

Boooooo Happy Halloween with Ranger Ink

We’re coming down to the wire, friends! Halloween is just days away. But last minute as it is, I’m back with one last Halloween project for the season. This time, a pair of haunted gift tags that I made for the Ranger Ink blog.

I just love these two silly ghosts, don’t you? They are from the Frightful Things die set from the Tim Holtz Sizzix Chapter 3 release, one of my favorite sets from this year’s holiday release. I paired the ghosts with spiderwebs from the same set, and popped them all against crisp black tags for contrast. The negative spaces were filled in with letters from the Alphanumeric Labels die set, inked in soft lilac Distress for a classic Halloween color combo.

These will be so cute tying up some Halloween goody bags for those special spooks. Happy Halloween, everyone!

And as always, I’ve got the full step-by-step tutorial for this project up on the Ranger Ink project page, if you’d like to learn more!

Tim Holtz Sizzix Chapter 3- The Boo Crew

Hello crafty friends! Thanks so much for stopping by! I’m heading back into the holidays today with another project that I made for the Tim Holtz Sizzix Chapter 3 release. This time, a Halloween card made with some old favorites, and a few new ones, too.

Meet the Boo Crew. Some adorable Halloween characters from the new Hip Haunts die set. These little cuties are a continuation of the popular hipsters line from the holidays last year, Cool Yule. Now there are Halloween as well as Christmas dudes to play with, as well as a bunch of fun accessories that you can mix and match between them. How can you resist?

This card also features a trio of bats from the new Bat Crazy die set, as well as some oldies but goodies like Tim’s Stitched Circles dies and the Alphanumeric Label dies from a more recent previous release. I used patterned paper from the Idea-ology Halloween Paper Stash. And the typography on the background is from the Stamper’s Anonymous Reflections stamp set. And of course there’s lots of inky shabby goodness in a spooky Halloween color palette of Distress.

It seems early to be thinking ahead to the holidays, but they will be here before we know it. Pete heads back to Richmond for his second year of pharmacy school next week. And Nik follows the week after. So summer is definitely on the wane in our neck of the woods…. as hard as that is to say. Of course I can ease the pain with a few Halloween haunts. That always helps! 😉

How about you all? Is back to school time looming in the not-so-distant future? Or is it summer time all the time for you?

Tim Holtz Creativation 2019 Blog Hop

Hello, crafty friends! Thanks so much for stopping by, and welcome to the Tim Holtz Creativation 2019 Blog Hop! Today I am joining in with a group of very talented designers to share a closer look at some of the booth projects that were showcased at Creativation in January featuring all the fabulous new products from the Tim Holtz collection.

I had the great pleasure of creating a few projects for the Tim Holtz Sizzix booth, and today I am excited to share my favorites from the show… a set of travel notebook journals made with the new Tiny Travel Globe die set from the upcoming Chapter 2 Sizzix release.

The Tiny Travel Globes are a continuation of the ever popular miniature snowglobe set that Tim released for the holidays this past year, and yes, these images are truly tiny and amazingly detailed. Each icon measures from about .5″ to 1″ in height, and all the little layered details you see here are individual die cuts. But never fear… all the pieces for each image come together on one die for super easy assembly.

There are the most adorable dimensional plastic domes that work with this set to create very lifelike 3D snow globe designs, but I wanted to show how these die cuts could be used in other ways. Each journal I created combines three or more images from the set into little framed travel scenes, perfect for documenting your favorite vacation sights and memories.

These travel notebooks measure about 3.5 “x 5.5”, and come in a pack of six from Amazon, making them super convenient and inexpensive to create in bulk. To add that aged and distressed appearance we all love so well, I started by adding some Distress ink splatters and Ranger black embossing powder to the edges of the journal before going over the cover with sand paper to scuff it up a bit. Next comes a layer of heavyweight cardstock, splattered and stamped in a really cool chevron-style print from the Flurry & Pine (CMS312) stamp set from Stamper’s Anonymous. I changed up the colors of each of the background to add a bit of variety to the set. Love the sort of primary-school color palette I used of red, yellow, green, and blue Distress ink. The backgrounds were then embellished with big chat stickers, and “held” in place with Idea-ology design tape.

The black frames were made by nesting a Stitched Ovals die in the center of a Stitched Rectangle die. I used the Tonic Studios paper distresser tool up scratch up the edges of the frame, and then added a bit of Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide ink with an ink blending tool. If you look very closely, you may notice some faint images that look like postage marks (Haberdashery CMS105) that I stamped randomly around the frames in Black Soot ink. And for more texture, black embossing powder was dry sprinkled onto the frames and very carefully heat set from the back with my heat tool.

The images for each vignette were all die cut and pieced from sanded Distress Kraft Stock cardstock, and I used additional pieces of the same cardstocks to help build the rest of the scenes. To keep the set uniform, I created sunny blue skies for each setting using Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean Distress inks on watercolor paper, and then layered on the additional detail pieces. Once you get started, it’s really fun to see where your imagination goes.

Each journal is tied closed with twine and fastened in a bow with a Idea-ology Typed Token. To make the tokens look as old as the rest of the journal, I dabbed them with Alcohol inks in Caramel and Rust. White Distress Crayon rubbed into the recesses really helps the lettering stand out. Last detail on each notebook is a destination sentiment strip die cut using the new Alphanumeric Label dies that are also coming out in the upcoming Chapter 2 release.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and enjoy the rest of the hop! But before you go, be sure to leave a comment here, and all along the hop, for your chance to win one of three amazing prize giveaways.
