Thank-Fall Tag Set with Ranger Ink

Happy Wednesday, crafty friends! It’s another frigid day here in the Carolina’s, but I refuse to give up on Fall just yet. So today I am back with another fall-inspired project. A set of thanksgiving gift tags that I made this week for the Ranger Ink Projects Page featuring their beautiful new Speckle Embossing Powders.

I love all the different textures and colors that are in these powders that give such a variegated finish. It’s the closest thing to the look of real enameling that I’ve yet to see. There are even large chunks that really look like stained glass when melted. So amazing what can be done these days with powders.

I love creating tags, and am always looking for different takes on the basic gift tag. For these tags I used two of my favorite and most-used Tim Holtz die sets to create the tag base… Stitched Rectangles and Stacked Tags. Fall Foliage die cuts, double-embossed in Speckle powders were used for the leaves. Vintage lace trim was added to the bottoms, and a mixture of Big Chat stickers and Alphanumeric dies make up the sentiments. Thought some Metallic Kraft Stock cardstock would go nicely with the golden tones of the embossing powders.

I think these would be so pretty used for fall birthdays and goody bags, don’t you? If you’re interesting in learning more, I’ve got the full step-by-step tutorial up on the Ranger Ink Projects Page blog. Thanks so much for stopping by! I am so very grate-fall and thank-fall for all of YOU!

A Million Thanks with Ranger Ink

Hi friends, happy November! Hope all you little spooks out there had a wonderful Halloween! I’ve been putting up Christmas decorations at work all week, so I’ve been having a hard time remembering what time of year it really is. I’m convinced it’s Christmas until I come home and see all the pumpkins laying around!

Today I have a fall-inspired thank you card to share that I made with lots of pretty Wendy Vecchi Make Art goodies from Ranger Ink. This sweet floral image would work beautifully for cards all year round, but today I’m definitely channeling my love for fall with this warm golden color palette.

This pretty set is called A Million Thanks, and I love that it comes with the clear stamps, matching dies, and a coordinating stencil, which I used on the background of the tag. The stamping was done in a rather unusual and new-to-me combo of Wendy Vecchi Fern Green Archival ink with Copic coloring. I know Archival ink isn’t necessarily Copic friendly, and may cause some bleeding… but I had good success with it, and I really like how different it turned out. Once I was done with the coloring, I went in with a white gel pen to add extra detailing.

The patterned papers are an old collection from Jillibean Soup called Farmhouse Stew. The tag is from the Tim Holtz Stacked Postage die set. I added a bit of Wendy Vecchi Make Art washi tape and finished it all off with a twine-wrapped bow.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Mr Snowman Gift Card Holder with Sizzix

Hello crafty friends! It’s the day before Halloween and my house is still filled with pumpkins and spooks, but as is often the case in the craft world, it’s time to move on to the next season. So today I’m super excited to be doing something I haven’t done in quite some time…. sharing a project on the Sizzix blog. This time, it’s the Sizzix UK blog The Making Journal and my project share is this sweet Mr. Snowman gift card holder tag.

The focus of my project was featuring Tim Holtz dies from the latest Sizzix Chapter 4 release, and I used two of my favorite new sets on this tag today. This is the adorable Mr. Snowman die from the new Colorize line, and the background was made with the Alpine set which makes incredible scenery for so many different designs. The tag and all the pieces were die cut from a combo of Distress watercolor cardstock and Distress Kraft Stock cardstock, and I went in with Distress Oxides and Inks to add color and definition to all the layers and pieces. Dyed trim was added to the top of the tag, and I made a quick and easy sentiment banner with simple twine and die cut Alphanumeric Label letters.

I call this a 2-fer project, because it really is two projects rolled into one. Not only is this adorable snowman tag a great packaging gift tag or decorative art tag, it also does double duty as a gift card holder. I love time saving ideas like this when the busy holiday season comes around.
If you’d like to learn more about the process, or check out the full step-by-step tutorial, be sure to pop on over to the Sizzix UK blog The Making Journal.

Boooooo Happy Halloween with Ranger Ink

We’re coming down to the wire, friends! Halloween is just days away. But last minute as it is, I’m back with one last Halloween project for the season. This time, a pair of haunted gift tags that I made for the Ranger Ink blog.

I just love these two silly ghosts, don’t you? They are from the Frightful Things die set from the Tim Holtz Sizzix Chapter 3 release, one of my favorite sets from this year’s holiday release. I paired the ghosts with spiderwebs from the same set, and popped them all against crisp black tags for contrast. The negative spaces were filled in with letters from the Alphanumeric Labels die set, inked in soft lilac Distress for a classic Halloween color combo.

These will be so cute tying up some Halloween goody bags for those special spooks. Happy Halloween, everyone!

And as always, I’ve got the full step-by-step tutorial for this project up on the Ranger Ink project page, if you’d like to learn more!

Tim Holtz Sizzix Chapter 3 Release- Ghost Town

Hello, hello friends! We’re halfway through the month of October already, in what feels like the blink of an eye. Halloween will be here before we know it, so it is high time for me to share the last of the Halloween projects that I made for the Tim Holtz Sizzix Chapter 3 release. This time, it’s a haunted trick or treat card made with the spooky Ghost Town dies.

This fun die set features three different houses, along with the tree trunk and smoke wisp you see here. The set is perfect for creating a haunted mansion look, or even an entire haunted village. For my card, I used the tallest house image set against the forest edge made with a stenciled tree line and a single die cut tree. I’m quite sure a wicked witch hoping to lure in some children lives here.

I used several layers to build up my background, starting with that fabulous Crackle 3D embossing folder on the base. I really recommend spraying your cardstock lightly with water before embossing, as that helps the paper bend and curve into all those nooks and crannies. A large Stitched Rectangle, die cut from watercolor cardstock and heavily inked with grey tones of Distress is next, followed by an Idea-ology Cabinet Card Frame with gold trim. If you look closely at the top and bottom of that card, you’ll notice some gold metallic punched borders that were made using the punchinella shaped die from Festive Repeats. I threaded some twine through the bottom border for some extra dimension and texture.

The tree, stars, and smoke were die cut from sanded Distress cardstock, and the house from watercolor cardstock inked in red and black Distress to create the roof and siding. I used a pair of stencils to add brick and shingle-like texture to the house, and backed all the window openings with vellum that was painted with Fossilized Amber mixed with Perfect Pearls powder. You can see the touch of shimmer when viewed from the side. Definitely gives that old haunted house a deceptive warm glow.

But not sure I’d ring that doorbell. Would you?

Life Moments with Ranger Ink

Hello, crafty friends, and happy Wednesday to you all! Hope your week is going well and that your fall (or spring, depending upon where you are) is off to a great start. I’m always super excited at this time of year, because of course autumn is my favorite season. I love it when the air turns cooler and the leaves start to change color, and pumpkins and apples start popping up everywhere. So I’m extra happy to be sharing a new fall project with you all today that I made for the Ranger Ink blog.

This card is a fun mix of some newer products, like Ranger Distress Archival Inks and the awesome Crackle texture folder from Tim Holtz and Sizzix, combined with lots of pretty Distress Ink colors and favorite stamps. I went with a warm autumnal color palette of golden yellows and rich deep orange and rust on this fall-inspired design, and used my Distress inks to do some easy watercolor washes and splatters. Quick techniques that give a unique appearance every time.

The texture on that 3D Crackle embossing folder is just amazing. The embossing looks great on either side, too. I pulled out my Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher to adhere the layers of background papers, and sandwiched a nest of loose threads in between. A simple stamped sentiment finishes the design.

I’ve got the full step-by-step tutorial up on the Ranger Ink Projects Page, if you’d like to learn more.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you an awesome weekend ahead!

You’re the Best with Ranger Ink

Happy Monday, crafty friends! Did you all have a fabulous weekend? My parents are here visiting, so I had a wonderful time with them…. catching up, chatting, playing dominoes, and starting my fall decorating. We even had real fall-like weather to help get us in the mood. I know it’s still early, but autumn just can’t come fast enough.

Today I’m sharing a card that I made recently for the Ranger Ink blog. A all-occasion friendship card featuring products from Ranger’s LetterIt product line. On this project, I share how to combine stamps and stencils to create a patterned background, as well as several ways to use embossing powders.

Ranger LetterIt stamps have the prettiest fonts. This simple sentiment from the Friendship stamp set was layered onto a pair of die cut label shapes, and backed with pretty ribbon and trim. A few sprigs of greenery coated in lime green embossing powder tucked around add some framework for the greeting. Then a thin strip of patterned paper finishes the design.

I’ve got the complete step-by-step tutorial on the Ranger Ink Projects Page, if you’d like to learn more.

Thanks for stopping by! Wishing you a fabulous week ahead!
