Holiday Home Tour

Happy Saturday, friends! How are the holiday preparations coming along at your house? As hard as it is to believe, we are now less than a week away from Christmas. And even though I can see all the lights and the tree and the decorations, I still have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that Christmas is here.

I think I keep waiting for my parents to arrive on their annual holiday visit to make me believe that Christmas is really here. But of course that can’t happen this year due to Covid, and I know everyone is in the same boat….. but it sure is different this year. Thank goodness the vaccine is just about here.

My mom really loves my holiday decorating, and since she can’t be here this year, I wanted to share some of my holiday house scenes on the blog. Today we’re taking a peek into my dining room. My new favorite spot to sit with my computer… which makes me smile because I know my dad would be sitting opposite of me with his laptop, were he here.

This year for my sideboard display, I went with my red transferware dishes, as always, mixed with vintage white ironstone. I have several sets of dishes that I like for Christmas, so it’s often a dilemma which to use, but this year’s decision was decided by an adorable Santa cookie jar that I’ve had for years and have never put to use. And what better colors for Santa than red and white.

For 4th of July this year, I added some of my larger red pieces to the sideboard, like a vintage red toolbox, my dad’s old red lunchbox, and a red Coca-Cola crate… and I like how they looked so well that I’ve brought them back for Christmas. You all know how much I love to bundle, and these totes are fabulous catch-alls for display.

I didn’t get much made for my AudOnes Shop this holiday, but I did adore these Yuletide tomato pincushions that I managed to squeeze in.  Thank you all so much for grabbing those up so quickly. Always makes my heart so happy.

I didn’t get as much cross-stitching done for this season as I would have liked to, either. But I did tuck my few finishes into the sideboard, and I love how they look in here.

The large piece is the Christmas Tree Farm pattern by Prairie Schooler, stitched onto 14-count Aida fabric that I coffee/tea dyed. The stitching is mounted onto sticky board and added to a junky old metal blackboard easel frame that I found at the thrift store. I also finished a trio of Prairie Schooler ornaments that I tucked in here and there.

Santa is so jolly, isn’t he? I believe this jar came from Hallmark, but not sure how many years ago.

With family around, I usually keep the dining room table clear at Christmas for congregating and eating and building puzzles. But this year, I was able to add my favorite holiday cloth, and pack the center of the table with my usual bundle of things.

There won’t be quite as many festivities this year, but I’m looking forward to Christmas dinner in here. I think I’m going to try my hand at Swedish meatballs… a family tradition at our house. But usually my mom is in charge, so wish me luck!
