It was wonderful to have so much extra time over this long holiday weekend to just relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. I know Thanksgiving weekend is crazy shopping weekend for many, and a start to the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season. But for one who avoids all stores and shopping malls and crowds, Thanksgiving weekend is really rather restful.
Instead of shopping, I’ve been busy putting up my tree and working on my Christmas decorations. Every year, I like to add a new handmade ornament to my collection. I have to say that I am quite smitten with little felt and fabric ones. This year, I made up some winter white stars to hang in my tree and tie up in my packages. And instead of hand cutting all the pieces, like I usually do, this year’s ornament was super quick and easy to craft, thanks to the help of my Sizzix star die.
In years past, I would have downloaded a star template, traced it onto fabric, and hand cut each and every star. How nice it was to simply die cut the fabric instead, taking just a minute or two to cut an entire stack, with no pinning, no tracing lines to erase or avoid, no extra snips to cover up. Talk about your time saver!
Once the stars were cut, I added a simple stamped sentiment in red ink. The Joy is from the Sizzix Hero Arts Snowman Stamp & Die set. You’ll be seeing more of that set from me later this month, because that snowman is to die for……..haha!
Then a simple hemp cord and a vintage pearl button. A bit of soft felted fleece for the backing. Sweet and simple. I’ve got the complete step-by-step directions up on the Sizzix blog, if you’d like to learn more.
