Winter Whites with Sizzix

It was wonderful to have so much extra time over this long holiday weekend to just relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. I know Thanksgiving weekend is crazy shopping weekend for many, and a start to the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season. But for one who avoids all stores and shopping malls and crowds, Thanksgiving weekend is really rather restful.

Audrey Pettit Sizzix JoyStarOrnamentsInstead of shopping, I’ve been busy putting up my tree and working on my Christmas decorations. Every year, I like to add a new handmade ornament to my collection.  I have to say that I am quite smitten with little felt and fabric ones. This year, I made up some winter white stars to hang in my tree and tie up in my packages. And instead of hand cutting all the pieces, like I usually do, this year’s ornament was super quick and easy to craft, thanks to the help of my Sizzix star die.

Audrey Pettit Sizzix JoyStarOrnaments2In years past, I would have downloaded a star template, traced it onto fabric, and hand cut each and every star. How nice it was to simply die cut the fabric instead, taking just a minute or two to cut an entire stack, with no pinning, no tracing lines to erase or avoid, no extra snips to cover up. Talk about your time saver!

Once the stars were cut, I added a simple stamped sentiment in red ink. The Joy is from the Sizzix Hero Arts Snowman Stamp & Die set. You’ll be seeing more of that set from me later this month, because that snowman is to die for……..haha!

Then a simple hemp cord and a vintage pearl button. A bit of soft felted fleece for the backing. Sweet and simple. I’ve got the complete step-by-step directions up on the Sizzix blog, if you’d like to learn more.

  1. they are absolutely adorable. I love homemade ornaments on a tree.
Would love to see your tree all decked out in your homemade ornaments.

  2. These are too cute Audrey! I did do some decorating yesterday. I put the lights and garland up outside. Now I can start cleaning the house (again) in order to put the decorations up inside!

  3. Such darling star ornaments, Audrey! They will look so pretty on your Christmas tree! I just started with my Christmas decorating. It really gets one into the spirit!:-) Hope you have a wonderful week, hugs!

  4. I am so smitten with these too~ This is just the type of ornaments I love. Made with love! I love that star shape too!

Like you, I don’t like the shopping scene this weekend always brings. We try and do something fun! This year, we went to Busch Gardens Williamsburg for Christmas Town! So pretty! IT was pretty cold, but still fun! Lots of hot chocolate in our bellies!

  5. Your sewing projects always amaze me! These are so simple and sweet. I did get a few things out to decorate my front porch. I was hoping to do the tree but alas, a broken water pipe took all DH’s attention Sunday afternoon and I just couldn’t ask him to drag out the tree after all that. At least we caught it early and there was no water damage, something to be thankful for.

  6. These are super cute and like you said they must have come together in no time. What a great addition to your tree and packages for this year Audrey. 🙂
