This summer, the girls and I tried to expand our creativity at our weekly crafty play dates. Although we still did a lot of sewing, we really stepped up our game with more intricate stitchery projects, and dabbled in some new mediums like paper clay and paper mache. And one week, our small little group of three grew into a merry band of six when the Missy Nik and Paige’s two nieces joined us for a bit of mixed-media painting.
Now I will be the first to admit that I’m not super artsy when it comes to painting, but I was really excited to try my hand at rock painting. Look at all of these cute rocks the six of us made that day. I love that you can turn this into a two-part project by making an adventure out of rock hunting one day, and artsy play the next. And how fun that you can create anything you want on this tiny little art form, with just a bit of creativity and a few basic supplies. It’s no cost entertainment, perfect for kids of all ages.
Whereas I sort of fail with a paintbrush, my little Nik really shines. She created some amazingly detailed work in classic black and white lines with the help of a thin artist’s brush…
and a fine tip Sharpie marker….
While I bumbled along in my turn, making, what else?
Yes…….I’ve got Halloween on the brain already!
Kinda looks like me first thing in the morning! π
