Making Merry

Last week, Little Yellow Bicycle began sharing peeks of their two newest collections. Little Yellow Bicycle’s 51st and 52nd collections celebrate fall and Christmas, and are releasing in time for CHA. I don’t know how they do it every time, but they do. They make me fall in love all over again.

Have you seen them? First there’s Feels Like Home for fall.

And then Making Merry for Christmas.
Little Yellow Bicycle is not actually attending the show this summer, so no yummy booth projects. But I was very excited to be asked to create a few Making Merry projects for the new catalog, and today, I get to start sharing those projects with you. I hope you’ll fall in love with Making Merry as quickly as I have.

Recently, I experimented with creating my own pillow box from the Vintage Summer collection without use of a die or template. Happily, Little Yellow liked my box enough that they asked me to recreate a similar version for the holidays. So here is my Making Merry Christmas take on my handmade, fun and funky pillow box design.

I can’t help thinking that the colors in Making Merry really POP. The bright and crisp red and green mixed with the black chalkboard accents is really bold and eye catching. And the Decorative Edges Cardstock shapes are just too fun, aren’t they? Here I folded two of the shapes over the top of the box and secured them with a ribbon tie. A third smaller piece becomes an instant tag when tied into the bow.

The gorgeous layered poinsettia and leaves are from the Paper Crafting Kit. I added some stitching and bending for texture and topped the flower with a custom brad made from Epiphany Crafts shape studio tools. Then a few decorative pins, die cuts and stickers add the final touch.

So what do you think, my friends? Are you a fan?
