Operation Write Home Memorial Day Blog Hop

Each and every day, our armed services and military personnel sacrifice to protect and serve this great country of ours. To all those brave men and women and their families, we owe a huge debt of gratitude and thanks. So I am very pleased today to be joining in with the Therm O Web team in supporting Operation Write Home‘s Memorial Day Blog Hop.

If you’re not familiar with OWH, simply put..they do amazing things for our military men and women! Since 2007, Operation Write Home volunteers have been tirelessly collecting handmade greeting cards which are sorted, boxed, and shipped each week overseas to our troops to send back home to their families. By May of 2011, the one-million-card milestone was reached, and in early 2012 the next half-million cards was already sent. Together, who knows what milestone we can reach next!

If you’re searching for creative inspiration, Operation Write Home has hundreds of card sketches to choose from. For my card, I pulled out one of my older favorite Authentique collections, Carefree, and paired it with this great sketch.

Mail delivery is free to all military personnel, so it’s ok to pile on the layers and add some bulky embellishments. I added lots of layers to my card, and tied it up in twine. Therm O Web 3-D Adhesive Squares beneath the sentiment and butterfly wings add a bit of extra depth and dimension.

The only trick is to make sure the card can still fit in an envelope!

  1. Audrey, this is the perfect sentiment. My husband has been on multiple deployments. One of his first year plus deployments, I was the lucky recipient of an OWH card! It sure means a lot! Thank you for sharing your talents for such a wonderful cause, and your card is stunning!

  2. Simply beautiful! So glad you blog hopped with OWH! I gotta get off my tush and have a cardmaking party since I’ve slacked with this organization (insert hand-slap!)

  3. What an uplifting card, the sentiment is so perfect. And I have to say this by far the best way I have seen to celebrate Memorial Day, remembering those that are giving so much to protect us! Way to go as always my dear Audrey!
