Friends Warm the Heart

Hiya Sweeties! Happy Monday! Did you all have a wonderful weekend? Watch the Oscars last night? I’ve been seeing lots of commentary on Facebook but I have to admit that I didn’t watch at all. Nope, it was nice and quiet here. A do-nothing, stay in your jammies type of weekend. And I loved every minute!

I’ve been getting a little crazy with the “mixed-media” again. Been combining paint and inks and stain with fabric and trims to make this cute little snowman pillow for our special Pinterest Inspiration challenge last week on the Therm O Web blog.

As many of you know, hand-stitched embroidery is a longtime passion of mine, and my Pinterest boards are full of sweet stitching and sewing projects that I want to give a try. Lately, I’ve been really inspired by Rebecca Sower’s amazing mixed-media fabric work, like this gorgeous journal cover.

I pulled lots of elements from Rebecca’s piece into my project, including the color palette of neutrals mixed with bits of red and black, the layers of fabric, lace, ribbons, and buttons. I had so much fun putting this pillow together, and thanks to the help of some time saving tips from Therm O Web’s Spray n’ Bond Adhesives, it was really easy, too.

The fabric is all scrap that I coffee-stained. The mitten piece is the leftover negative from a previous project that I thought might someday come to good use. I stamped my snowmen and sentiment before stitching and painting, and as you can see, I went a little nuts with the embroidery. I believe I was letting my creative spirit flow…..:)

I have the full step-by-steps up on the Therm O Web blog, if you’d like to take a peek. Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you a wonderful day!

  1. Hey Sweets!! OMG … those little snowmen are adorable! You ARE the queen of hand embroidery and mixed media — no one does it better than you! Just in love with this sweet, sweet pillow — great job, my stampy friend 🙂

  2. Oh my goodness, I am loving this mixed media style! This is amazing! Wow! I love the materials you used and your embroidery is flawless! The snowmen are too darling! I mean for reals! Love it girl!

  3. Another sweet stitchery project. I love how you used the negative space of the mitten to frame your adorable snowmen. You just let that creative spirit flow because the stitching is perfect! Love the homespun feel of this project.

  4. So stinkin cute!!!! You know I love snowmen and their are the sweetest!! I really wish I loved to sew, but I can honestly say I don’t…I admire anyone who can because I love the look!!

  5. Oh my goodness. What a cute little project you have here. Those little snowmen are too cute. I don’t know what it is but every time I am on your site I have a big smile on my face. I am thinking its the cute projects here…

  6. I’m totally blown away by this! (Although I shouldn’t be because you are XX awesome). What a beautiful and lovingly made treasure this is! I love every detail and it is already an heirloom! 🙂

P.S. I have to tell you that every time I open your blog and Crissy’s face pops up it makes me happy!

  7. OMG – this is so amazing!!! You need to sell your work on etsy, because I want to buy it!
Those snowmen are so adorable, and the overall design is simply fabulous!

  8. (gasp!!) Oh my gosh, what a SWEET pillow!!! LOVE it Audrey, and the journal cover really caught my interest too!.. Oh if I just could find a place in my shoebox of an apartment to permanently set up my sewing machine. I’m afraid that the initial set up is what keeps me away from sewing much of the time, and I really do miss it sometimes. I made a beautiful memory quilt once, and friends of mine have been doing some quilting of their own recently. It makes me wish I could try my hand at it again, sometime… Oh, but I digress. LOVE all the little embroidered details on your pillow; and seeing the dangling tulips, I’m thinking wouldn’t shamrocks be cute like that on something?!!… hmmm… ((hugs and have a great day!))

  9. Okay you have surpassed all your other sewing projects with this one….I think. LOL All your projects are so amazing, but I have to say this is incredible. Love the mitten cut out for a frame around your snowmen. There’s not ANYTHING I don’t like about this one Audrey. sigh…..drool….drool….Hugs!
