Hi everyone! It is a very happy day here on my old bloggity blog. Today I have the great honor and pleasure to guest design on the Sizzix blog! I am really excited about the little gift set I put together. It is a fun combination of my favorite things, papercrafting and sewing, incorporating Sizzix dies in some unique and fun ways that I hope you will enjoy.
When I was a young girl, a family friend taught me how to embroider, and even after all these years, stitching is still one of my favorite crafty pursuits. I love how easy it is to create special hand-stitched gift sets, like my sewing kit here, with the help of a few Sizzix dies. Since the dies cut out fabric pieces as well as they do paper, you eliminate the need to pin patterns and hand-cut your fabric pieces. Talk about your time saver!
My pinkeep started with three fabric and wool hearts die cut with Sizzix’s Framelits Hearts Scallop die set. The three layers are stitched together with the top layer folded down to create a small pocket, perfect for tucking away scissors and small sewing goods.
I edged the pocket with lace and dressed it with a big happy bow and a beautiful felt flower made with the Flowers 3-D die. The leaves are a mixture of fabric, wool, and funky hand-embroidery made from the Leaves die.
I created the design on the front of the pinkeep with paint and a stencil made from the Flowers, Branches, and Leaves die. Once the paint was dry, I went back and stitched in the outline.
Used some of the same techniques to create a matching mason jar filled with vintage thread spools to complete the set.
