Hi everyone! It’s time for a new challenge at LESSology! Challenge #3 is the Doggy Bag Challenge.
I’m so excited to share with you my project today. Many of you are aware by now how much I love to create seasonal projects using kraft bags, so you KNOW this challenge was right up my alley. Oh, the possibilities of the brown paper bag!
This particular project is very sentimental to me. Many years ago, when my daughter was just a tiny little thing, she and I made one of these pumpkins together. It is one of my oldest and most treasured Halloween decorations to this day. This new pumpkin was made especially for a very dear bloggy friend of mine. So I’m sentimental again. Hope she enjoys it for many years to come. (hugs)
This little pumpkin is a quick and easy way to add some autumn cheer to your home decor, using only basic supplies you probably already have on hand.
All you need is some paint, a few trims and buttons, and a take-out bag from your next dinner out.
To get started, open up your doggy bag so that it stands up by itself. You can use kraft bags, like mine, or a white bag. Once you paint them, it doesn’t matter which. And any size will do. I’ve done this project with smaller lunch bag sizes, as well as large grocery bag varieties.

Fill the inside of your bag about half-way to two-thirds full with recycled newspaper, bubble wrap, or any leftover packaging material. Twist the top of the bag shut. You don’t need any adhesive for this part. Simply twist the bag in your hands until the top is closed and fairly tight.
Paint the bottom, stuffed portion of your bag orange using acrylic paint. Then paint the top, stem portion green or brown, depending upon your preference.
Tie the top shut with twine, tulle, lace, or ribbon. Add a button and a leaf made from patterned paper. I also added green florists wire that I wrapped around a pencil to mimic the pumpkin vine. Swiped the bag with a bit of distress ink to give it an older, shabby chic patina. Finished it off with an autumn-themed tag.
Super quick and easy ! So next time you eat out, be sure to ask for a doggy bag!
Hope you come and play along with the Doggy Bag Challenge at LESSology. Challenge #3 is being sponsored by Stampin’Up Demonstrator, Jackie Bowman.
