A Peek Into My Scrappy World

Random Chaos #42 January 12, 2009

Hi everyone!  I am really excited today. A new challenge has just been posted on the Random Chaos site. We’ve taken a nice long break over the holidays, but now we are back, and I am ready to go.  I really enjoy the creative process of working with the RC prompts.  I’ve missed it.  There’s something fun and different every week, and tons of inspiration as well.  So how about you guys?  Are you all ready for some new challenges, too?

The challenge this week is to use a bird somewhere on your layout.  With all the birds available in scrapbooking products today, this was an easy and fun project.  I pulled out my scraps of my November kit from Paper-Playground and made this happy page.

This challenge came at the perfect time for me.  Nik and I had just recently worked on a project together to make hanging bird seed ornaments for the trees outside.  We took stale bread crusts and spread them with peanut butter and then dipped them in bird seed. It was great to work on these together and we both felt so good about doing something for the animals during wintertime.  They were meant for the birds, but I think the squirrels got them instead.  And we are okay with that.  ;)

I love that I got the chance to scrap these photos so quickly, and love even more the fact that I made this basically from only scraps from my kit. I had to get a little creative to actually cover the entire 8.5 x 11 base, let alone come up with enough embellishments.  I must say that it feels really GOOD to stretch my scrapbooking supplies so far and to challenge myself to use every last bit.  And it doesn’t hurt that I love this November kit so much, either.  It definitely makes me want to squeeze every ounce of goodness out of it that I can.

The background is completely pieced.  I used the smallest pieces of leftover cardstock and the negative piece of the Scenic Route chipboard to make my leaf embellishments.  I also traced around the large maple leaf directly onto my layout and then backstitched it with brown embroidery thread for further detail.  Luckily, I also had a few leaves remaining that I cut out of one of the patterned papers, some brads, a ticket, and just a few scraps of ribbons.  And that owl……..it was the very last one left on a teeny-tiny scrap.  I cut it out and popped it on a foam dot, and it just makes me smile every time I see it.

This challenge was a ton of fun!  I hope you all give it a try.  I would love to see what you come up with.

Have a great day!

What a beautiful page Audrey! Just love it, the colors are wonderful and I love the pictures. Plus that’s a great idea to feed the birds and squirrels, might have to try that this week! And I love that you do 8.5×11. I was always a 8.5×11 and the past couple of years starting doing 12×12. I don’t think enough people give 8.5×11 a chance:) A 12×12 seemed massive when I first started doing them! Can’t wait to see the challenges at RC…And you are going to have to get a Cuttlebug:)

I just LOVEEEEE this one! Such great colors and I love how you pieced the papers together. Now that is making great use of scraps!!!! Love the maple leaf!!!! I did call the doctor and he did admit that some of the meds may be making me feel this way, but that I should continue it and give it a little more time, to see if the fog goes away. Sure, living like this stinks! I don’t want to get out of bed. Thank you so much for the advice, because you hit the nail right on the HEAD!!! I wonder about these doctors sometimes. The pain is still there, just a dull one, but I think feeling depressed and out of it is worse than the horrible pain!! We will see! No car yesterday, all day searching and nothing, so Joe will be using my son in laws truck for awhile until we find something else!!! Have a great Tuesday!!!
