Here we are, half way through day one of the weekend already. Time sure does fly. But I’m happy to say that my weekend plans are well underway. I slept in this morning, and have already watched several hours of mindless tv, just like I had hoped to do. Also started a new book by Elizabeth George last night. I absolutely love British mystery writers, and these Detective Lynley books are my new favorites. I’m slowly working my way through the entire series. Fortunately, I still have a few more books to go.
And I’m happy to say that I’ve just finished the acorn project that Nik and I started last weekend. I am still feeling lucky that we were able to find SO many acorns this year. This gave me the opportunity to do something on a pretty grand scale. My original idea was to create this project using only the acorns, but once I got started, I decided it needed a little extra touch. You know how that goes.
So……I started with this.
And ended up with this.
And I learned a couple of things along the way. First, acorns are a lot heavier than one would imagine. And two, they have some sharp, pointy tips to them that definitely start jabbing you as the wreath gets covered. Yikes! Still, I’m thinking this will look good up on my mantel once Halloween is over. I hate to think about taking down all my precious Halloween decor, but I know the time is fast approaching when that will have to happen. Don’t have a lot of Thanksgiving stuff to replace it with, but this will be a good start. Might have to do a bit of shopping. That will be a real shame…. A real shame, indeed.
The base of this wreath is just a simple straw form from the craft store. Nik and I glued row after row of acorns onto the wreath, and embellished it with some dried grass we found on one of our nature walks. Isn’t that organdy bow gorgeous? I adore the glittered polka dots on it. And I’ll tell you a little secret….that ribbon is included in the November Paper-Playground kit. Sshhhhh. Last, but definitely not least, I added some floral cut-outs from the Amber Wave patterned paper from Webster’s Pages‘ Reflections of Nature collection. Although time consuming, it doesn’t take many flowers to make a bold statement. Touches of gold Stickles along the leaves and flower petals added a pop of sparkle to compliment the glitter in the ribbon. Can’t wait to see it up on my mantel. Won’t be long now.
Hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekends!

Oh wow, that is really pretty!! I love this idea! The girls and I collect pinecones and acorns every year that fall near our driveway, so I love new ideas of what to use them for! Awesome!!
