A Peek Into My Scrappy World

July Challenge at inspireME July 5, 2008

June has come and gone and that means that it’s time for a new challenge over at the Webster’s Pages community blog site, inspireME. I had so much fun leading the June sketch challenge, and was just floored by all the beautiful entries. It is amazing how many different interpretations can be made from one sketch. If you haven’t had a chance yet, pop over and check out the June Sketch Album under “all albums” in the photos section.

So now, are you all ready for a new contest? This month’s challenge, led by design team member Melissa Phillips, revolves around a birthday theme. Your layout, card, or altered project must contain a symbol or image of something related to a birthday or party celebration, such as balloons, cake, cupcakes, candles, presents, party hats, etc., and… Melissa says she would love to see a splash of your very favorite color right now! Please see all contest rules under the Webster’s Pages Inspirations thread in the forum.

Thought the challenge was such a good one that I wanted right away to play along. Here is what I did.

I used three different paper lines from Webster’s Pages to create this cute card featuring a hand-cut candle for my birthday symbol. The pink base is the Dahlia paper from the Sweet Chantilly line. The next layers are Drizzle and Pokee Dot from the Raspberry Truffle collection. I also used the Flutterby paper from the Feather Your Nest line for the die-cut shape, and free-hand drew a candle shape onto some Delish paper. The rub-on greeting is from Imaginisce.  Machine stitching, buttons and a felt bow complete the look of the card. I do love how this card turned out, and…..it has some of my all-time favorite colors in it, pink and brown.

I hope you all feel inspired to try your hand at your own birthday-themed project and come play along with us! I can’t wait to see what you all come up with!

Have a great day!
